Sailors’ Society Expands Seafarer Wellness Campaign

Shipping companies are being invited to sign up to a free mental health and wellbeing campaign offering support not just to crews, but also their families and shore staff.International maritime charity Sailors’ Society said it has expanded its Wellness at Sea Awareness Campaign to include families and shore staff. The 27-week campaign, which starts in June, will help seafarers, their families and shore staff understand how they can manage their own wellbeing and navigate common challenges that people connected to the maritime industry can face.

ABS Reaches an IHM Century with Seaspan

Classification society ABS reports it has scheduled its 100th Inventory of Hazardous Materials (IHM) Certification for Seaspan Ship Management, 98% of which are remote surveys.ABS says it is on course to ultimately certify more than 100 vessels for the world's largest containership lessor as part of a huge increase in demand for ABS remote surveys of around 300% since the start of the global COVID-19 pandemic.“COVID-19 has provided the maritime industry with unprecedented challenges. Seaspan Completes Remote DoC Audit with DNV GL

Seaspan Selects Alfa Laval's Steam Solution

Seaspan Ship Management selected Alfa Laval to help resolve steam balance and redundancy issues connected to sulfur-compliant fuels. The solution – an integrated steam boiler plant comprising oil-fired steam production, waste heat recovery, advanced control and connectivity – will be implemented on eight Seaspan-owned large container ships.Prior to the IMO global sulfur cap’s entry into force, Seaspan Ship Management made the decision to work with sulfur-compliant fuels on its container vessels.

Seaspan Implements ECO Insight solution

Seaspan Ship Management Ltd. will implement the DNV GL fleet performance management solution ECO Insight to improve their fleet monitoring. ECO Insight will also enable Seaspan to increase their vessel’s performance and energy efficiency. “Seaspan has spent considerable effort to develop its capabilities around fleet performance. Close monitoring of the performance of our fleet is in line with our mission of safe, reliable and economical operations. Verifavia to Monitor Shipping Firms for EU MRV Requirements

Verifavia, the world’s leading emissions verification company for the transport sector, has been tasked by five shipping companies with performing a pre-verification gap analysis against the European Commission’s (EC) Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (MRV) rules. DFDS Seaways, Euronav Ship Management, NEDA Maritime Agency, Seaspan Ship Management and Synergy Maritime, have all appointed Verifavia to assess their organisations for MRV readiness. Taiwan's Yang Ming Marine to Add Bigger Vessels to its Fleet

Yang Ming Marine Transport Corporation, Taiwnanese global shipping and logistics services company,  will take delivery of 14 large-sized ships over the next two years, as it moves to expand its fleet of shipping vessels. At the end of March, the company took delivery of the first of 15 vessels it had ordered, each of which has a capacity of 14,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs). By the end of 2015, the company said, it will take delivery of another nine 14,000 TEU vessels from Canada's Seaspan Ship Management. Becker Marine Delivers Rudder for Largest Containership

At 19,000 TEU, the largest container ship in the world is now picking up speed – with a high-performance rudder from the Hamburg-based company. The christening of the CSCL GLOBE containership from China Shipping Container Lines (CSCL) at the end of November drew a great deal of attention in the shipping industry, because, with space for 19,000 standard containers (Twenty-foot Equivalent Unit or TEU), it is the largest one in the world. The rudder for the ship built at the Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) shipyard in South Korea was delivered by Becker Marine Systems.

Becker Rudders for Five Container Giants

Despite the ongoing shipping crisis, Becker Marine Systems said it is on course for 2013. The Hamburg-based company was awarded the contract to equip five 18,000-TEU container ships under construction for China Shipping Container Lines with effective high performance rudders. With a transport capacity of 18,000 standard containers (Twenty-foot Equivalent Unit or TEU), the container ships currently under construction for China Shipping Container Lines at the Hyundai Heavy Industries shipyard in South Korea will be among the largest cargo ships in the world.

ChartCo Fits SeaSpan with Navigation Software

ChartCo announced that SeaSpan Corporation, an independant owner of container ships, has placed an order with ChartCo to fit its navigation data management system across the entire fleet. ChartCo will install its full software suite, including PassageManager, and supplying paper and electronic chart updates to each vessel. PassageManager allows ChartCo subscriber to plot routes, attach navigational products to those routes and then produce comprehensive passage plans combining products, port and route data.

Historic Containership Contract for China

The new generation of 10,000 TEU container vessels contracted in China by Seaspan represents major improvements in energy efficiency, cargo capacity, operational efficiency and emission reductions. The new features have been developed in a collaboration between Seaspan, the Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group, MARIC and DNV. The order for seven 10,000 TEU container vessels plus 18 options which was signed in Shanghai on June 8, 2011 is the biggest ever container contract entered into in China. The vessels will be built to DNV class. The improvements due to new design features are substantial.

Seaspan Awarded New Triple-E Rating

Containership owner Seaspan has received DNV’s new Triple-E rating. Triple-E is a voluntary self-improvement tool designed to help ship operators improve their organizational performance, identify ways to minimize their environmental impact and optimize their fuel consumption, thereby reducing costs. Seaspan’s vessel MOL EMERALD is the first ship to receive the rating, which was handed over at a ceremony in Vancouver, Canada by DNV President Tor E. Svensen. The Triple-E rating is based on the capture of environmental and operational data from ships. It is a voluntary service which delivers a rating from 4 to 1 (1 is best) based on an independent assessment of a ship’s environmental performance.

WSS Rolls Out Single Payment System

Ship operators and managers are benefitting from the administrative efficiency of a single payment system for port calls launched by Wilhelmsen Ships Service. Lloyd’s Register to Class New Fleet of Container Ships

Lloyd’s Register will class a series of five 8,100teu container ships to be built at Samsung Heavy Industries. The ships, ordered by Seaspan and China Shipping Group, are the largest container vessels to be built in South Korea. Lloyd’s Register, the market leader for construction of this size of container vessel, won this contract with a comprehensive package of benefits relating to each stage of the design, new construction and operation phases.
