Injured Woman Rescued on Lake Washington

Coast Guard, Seattle Police Department, Seattle Fire Department, King County Sheriff’s Office and Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife personnel rescued a woman after she sustained a leg injury after reportedly being struck by a boat propeller on Lake Washington, Sunday afternoon. Seattle Fire Department personnel aboard a Seattle Police Department boat safely transported the 19-year-old woman to waiting EMS who took her to Harborview Medical Center. "Due to the excellent working relationships the Coast Guard has with our partner agencies in the Seattle area, we executed the rescue using great teamwork and it was without hesitation," said Chief Petty Officer Jeff Wildes from Coast Guard Station Seattle.

Shell Arctic Rig Protesters Detained and Released

U.S. The 24 people who violated the 500-yard safety zone established around the Shell Arctic drilling rig Polar Pioneer were detained by USCG and partner agency law enforcement personnel Monday morning. The individuals were transported to Coast Guard Base Seattle at Pier 36, issued notices of violation that include a $500 fine and released with their equipment. Seattle Police Dismantle Anti-Shell Protest Tent

Seattle activists say police have dismantled a tent on Monday used as a staging area to organize local protests over Royal Dutch Shell Plc's  use of the city's port as a home base for a drilling rig that could depart this week for the Arctic. Over the last month, activists have staged demonstrations against the oil company's Arctic drilling plans, including on May 16 when hundreds of protesters in kayaks and small boats fanned out on a Seattle bay. Kvichak Delivers L.A. Sheriff Response Boat

Kvichak Marine Industries, of Seattle, Wash., recently delivered a Response Boat Medium – C to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD). The 45’ x 14’ 7” RBM-C is the sistership of the highly successful USCG RB-M and has been adapted to meet the Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and Explosives (CBRNE) detection mission requirements of the L.A. County Sheriff’s department. A roof mounted RS-700 Gamma/Neutron Radiation Detection System from RSI enables the vessel to quickly and accurately measure and locate natural and man-made radioactive elements.

Kvichak Awarded RBM-C Contract for Seattle Police

Kvichak Marine Industries, of Seattle, WA, has recently been awarded a contract for a 44.5’ X 13.7’ Response Boat Medium – C for operation by the Seattle Police Department Harbor Patrol Unit. The RBM-C is the sistership of the highly successful USCG RB-M and has been adapted to meet the mission requirements of the SPD Harbor Patrol Unit. The vessel to be named “Patrol 1” is currently under construction at Kvichak’s Seattle yard and is the 500th hull built by Kvichak Marine over the past 30 years.

Training to Test Response to Ferry Hijacking

On December 16th, the U.S. Coast Guard, Washington State Patrol, and Washington State Ferries will be conducting a joint agency training exercise in Yukon Harbor, southwest of Blake Island. The drill scenario incorporates a multi-agency response to a simulated ferry hijacking. Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) teams from the Seattle Police Department, Kitsap County Sheriff’s office, and the Washington State Patrol along with the Washington State Ferries, U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Navy, Bainbridge Island Fire and Police Departments, and Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife will use the opportunity to implement contingency plans and strengthen interagency relationships developed since September 11th.
