Dr. Lorry Wagner has served as president of the Cleveland-based Lake Erie Energy Development Corporation (LEEDCo) since May of 2010.LEEDCo is the public private partnership behind the effort to construct Icebreaker Wind, a 6 turbine 20.7 megawatt offshore wind energy demonstration project in Lake Erie, 8 miles off the shore of Cleveland. Transas to Supply TechSim Solutions to SUNY Maritime

The Navsim Services and Transas Americas Team, have been awarded contracts for supply of a combination of full mission, classroom and cloud based Transas Technical simulation (TechSim) solutions for the State University of New York (SUNY) Maritime College. The full mission and classroom systems are being procured to meet forthcoming new United States Coast Guard (USCG) National Maritime Center (NMC) training requirements, and include multiple models from the Transas library with the latest functional capabilities of the Transas TechSim platform.

Port Accidents are Avoidable

Speaking this week at the industry forum, ASEAN Ports and Shipping in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, TT Club’s Regional Director for Asia Pacific, Phillip Emmanuel, showed evidence that a very high percentage of the insurer’s claims were due to some kind of operational error. The majority could have been avoided through good management practice. Emmanuel highlighted the main areas of concentrated risk and presented effective recommendations to minimize these incidents. Leading transport and logistics insurer TT Club’s latest analysis of 9,500 claims over the past seven years, valued at $400 million, confirmed an ongoing trend in avoidable damaging events that resulted in claims.

CIBER Delivers Harbor Safety Initiative

CIBER, Inc. is delivering a Harbor Management and Security (HMS) packaged application solution for the US Coast Guard and the State of Hawaii to simultaneously improve port safety and security, maritime commerce efficiencies, and maritime domain awareness through a centralized, "one-stop shopping" Internet-based system. In a public/private partnership approach, CIBER's HMS system provides the engine for sharing port safety, security and commerce data. "With more than 95 percent of the United States non-NAFTA (North America Free Trade Agreement) foreign trade carried by ship and the increase in terrorist threats, it makes providing a port information system like HMS even more important and time critical," said Bill Parker, Maritime Systems practice director, CIBER.
