Workshop on Maritime Security in S.Pacific

International Maritime Organization (IMO) and the South Pacific Community, in collaboration with the Government of Vanuatu, are holding a Regional Maritime Security Workshop in Port Vila, Vanuatu (22-25 July). US, Malaysia Bolster Port Security Partnership

A U.S. Coast Guard International Port Security team completed a bilateral engagement with Malaysian officials in April. This engagement involved sharing best practices and visiting with the Ministry of Infrastructure Marine and Ports Division to observe the implementation of the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code at three port facilities: Northport, Port Klang and two port facilities in Penang; Swettenham Cruise Terminal and North Butterworth Container Terminal.

ABS To Provide Security Certification For Dockendale Shipping

ABS has secured a contract with Bahamas-based Dockendale Shipping Company Limited to certify 33 of its vessels to the requirements of the International Ship and Port Security Code (ISPS). Dockendale has also requested that it be audited to the additional ABS security criteria for the award of the relevant class notation (SEC). The class notation is particularly advantageous for those vessels trading regularly to the US and for owners wanting to demonstrate the highest levels of security compliance. ABS Manager of Safety, Environment & Security Certification Capt. Patrick Falwell, praised Dockendale’s proactive approach towards meeting the new international security standard. “The deadline is 1 July of next year,” Fallwell pointed out.

Cosco Bulk Carrier Meets Security Code

Bachrach & Wood was formed 1953 to provide marine surveying and consultant services to the shipping industry in New Orleans. This year marks its 50th year of service. Liberian Registry Takes ISPS Training And Verification Initiative

The Liberian Registry has taken a unique initiative by electing to train its own worldwide network of inspectors to perform verification audits for shipowners, operators and managers under the International Ship and Port Security (ISPS) Code. It has also decided to approve specific members of the International Association of Classification Societies as competent to carry out ISPS audits on behalf of Liberian-registered vessels. The Liberian International Ship & Corporate Registry has contracted with leading international security specialists to train fifty Liberian inspectors over the next three months in three key locations - North America, Europe and the Far East - in the specialist skills required to perform ISPS and other security audits.
