DNV Merges Its Cyber Security Arms

DNV announced it has merged its existing cyber security business with two recently acquired companies, Nixu and Applied Risk.The merger brings together more than 500 cyber security experts to safeguard IT and industrial control system environments across multiple industries, including maritime and offshore energy. It follows DNV’s acquisition of Amsterdam-based industrial cyber security specialist Applied Risk in 2021, and the conclusion of DNV’s acquisition of Helsinki-headquartered cyber security services leader Nixu in December 2023.“Cyber security is a defining risk for the coming decade.

USCG Approves ABS Wavesight eLogs for US-flagged Vessels

ABS Wavesight on Thursday announced its eLogs software has received formal approval from the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) for use by U.S.-flagged ships. KN to Operate LNG Terminal in Brazil

ClassNK Certifies its First CSMS

Classification Society ClassNK certified the Cyber Security Management System (CSMS) of NYK Group subsidiary NYK LNG Shipmanagement Ltd. and its managed LNG carrier “PACIFIC MIMOSA”. ClassNK Updates Ship Maintenance Checklist

Classification society ClassNK has released the latest version of Good Maintenance Onboard Ships (October, 2017), a checklist designed to be used by ship masters, crew, ship owners and other key personnel to ensure vessels are safe, well-maintained and comply with regulations. ClassNK Sets up Industry's first Digital Archive Center

ClassNK has established ClassNK Archive Center (NKAC), the maritime industry’s first onshore digital archive center that fully complies with IMO Goal-based ship construction standards (GBS) and the Industry Standard, which begin to apply from today. IMO GBS are broad, over-arching safety and environmental standards that ships are required to meet during their operational lifetime. The new SOLAS regulation II-1/3-10 made GBS applicable to bulk carriers and oil tankers of 150m in length and above for which the building contract is placed on or after 1 July 2016. The new regulation requires that a Ship Construction File (SCF) be provided upon delivery of a new ship and kept on board the ship and/or ashore.

DNV GL, Tsakos Join Forces on Cyber Safety

The Tsakos Group of Companies has selected DNV GL to assist in preparing a cybersecurity management system for its fleet and onshore facilities – the first such management system developed by a shipping company in cooperation with DNV GL’s Advisory Services.
