SENER Presents Modularization Concept at CRAFERIC

SENER, an engineering and technology group, took part in the Cruises & Ferries International Conference (CRAFERIC 2017), from February 22-24,  in Madrid. During this major international conference, that took part at the Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingenieros Navales (ETSIN) of the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, differentiating elements of the current cruise and ferry industry were presented. The originality of CRAFERIC 2017 is founded on the combination of marine engineering with other tourism-related topics

FORAN Signs Contract with NODOSA Shipyard

The SENER engineering and technology group has signed a new contract with NODOSA SHIPYARD to install its FORAN CAD/CAM/CAE system to design and produce the shipyard's new projects. This contract covers installing permanent FORAN system licenses in all design disciplines (Hull Forms and Naval Architecture, Hull Structure, Machinery & Outfitting and Electrical). As part of this agreement, SENER will provide engineering services in addition to technical support and training. The system has been installed successfully in the shipyard's Marin factory

SENER Presents Two FORAN Papers at the Morintekh

In June, the SENER engineering and technology group participated in the 17th Morintekh – Praktik 2016 Scientific Conference, in the city of St. Petersburg, Russia. This key event for the shipbuilding sector was attended by over 300 professionals, who presented their latest technological developments and their experience in the implementation of different solutions. SENER, which had previously participated in this event, gave two presentations on the FORAN System, one on the integration of FORAN with product lifecycle management tools (PLM)

SENER Presents Study on Implementation of CAD System

At the annual COMPIT conference, the SENER engineering and technology group presented a technical/economic study on the implementation of a CAD system in a shipyard and, in particular, the FORAN System, developed by SENER. The event took place in Lecce, Italy, on May 9, 10 and 11. COMPIT is an international conference focusing on software applications and information technologies that have been well received within the marine sector. The event is always held in Europe. Rodrigo Pérez, from SENER’s Marine Department, presented the article ‘Learning Curve and ROI in the Implementation of a CAD System in a Generic Shipbuilding Environment’. The article provides an analysis of the FORAN system learning curve in a generic shipyard.

SENER, ESI Group to Integrate Solutions

The global company ESI Group, a virtual prototyping and testing software developer, has joined efforts with SENER, a company in marine engineering and the development of CAD/CAM system for the shipbuilding industry, with the aim of marketing and integrating their respective solutions, IC.IDO and FORAN. Nowadays shipbuilding is dominated by vessels with highly complex and sophisticated designs. There is also a growing trend of distributing the engineering tasks between multiple remote agents, and a need to produce integrated designs for effective ships with no margin of error.

SENER Celebrates 50 Years of FORAN

The SENER Group division in Shanghai held a 50th anniversary celebration of FORAN system where it also presented its new version V80. More than 100 attendees from 40 companies including shipyards, design offices, classification societies, universities and partners attended the event. The event received endorsement from Embassy of Spain and CDTI (Spain’s Centre for the Development of Industrial Technology) with participation of representatives. SENER Marine north America manager, Verónica Alonso, presents a paper that was written in collaboration with Rodrigo Pérez, SENER South Europe manager. SENER engineering and technology group took active part in the World Maritime Technology Conference 2015, the annual congress organized by the US association of naval architects (SNAME), which groups most part of the maritime industry. SENER Presents at RINA Damaged Ship Conference

Damaged Ship, the conference organized by The Royal Institution of Naval Architects every two years in their headquarters in London, shows the major processes made over the last years around damaged stability in vessels and artifacts. This time SENER has presented a paper about the advantage of using a suitable CAD tool for this calculations, and in particular in its FORAN System. The technical article was written by J.A. Muñoz, chief naval architecture group of development in FORAN and by R. Pérez, project manager and business development, both from SENER Marine and presented by the last one.

SENER in ASNE Day Again

For third consecutive year, SENER has participated in the 2015 edition of the ASNE Day, the yearly Congress and Exhibition, organized by the American Society of Naval Engineers from the United States. Like years before, the venue was located in Arlington, close to Washington DC, and in this case it happened during the last 4th and 5th of February. The event gathers a good number of the most relevant naval shipyards and companies around, all from the United States, that want to learn about the news in the naval shipbuilding industry, both in the technical presentations and in the exhibition area, where SENER had a stand. SENER presented the latest developments from its FORAN System, so as the services around the marine engineering and ship design.

Design’s Future 3D Modeling, Virtual Reality Wave of Design Future

Rooted in early computer-aided design (CAD) and manufacturing applications, design and construction software is firmly at the helm of most shipyards today, enabling the production of  better designed, more efficient and consistently built ships produced with measurably less waste: less waste of time, materials, man hours and most important, money. The ROI can be substantial, and is traceable throughout the entire process, across all sub sectors such as project management, purchasing, materials, labor and build sequencing.

New SENER Asia & Pacific Directors Appointed

Alfonso Cebollero has been appointed as SENER's Regional Director for Asia and Pacific, while Guangwu Liu has become SENER's new Country Manager in China. Both will coordinate the Engineering and Technology Group’s projects in the above-mentioned geographical areas where SENER’s CAD/CAM activity is especially remarkable in the shipbuilding sector. Alfonso Cebollero is a Naval Architect graduate from the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM) and holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA) in Marine Business from the ICADE business school, in Spain. He carries out his new responsibilities based in Busan (South Korea). Guangwu Liu Guangwu is a Naval Architect graduate from the Wuhan University of Technology (WHUT)

FORAN Users Meeting (FORUM 2014)

The Eighth FORAN Users Meeting (FORUM 2014) took place June 11-13, 2014 in the Parador de la Granja, Segovia, and when it was over the organizers proclaimed it a great success, recording the highest number of participants ever. On Thursday June 12, Rafael de Góngora, General Manager of SENER Marine Business Unit, welcomed the attendees and encouraged an open sharing of experience in using the FORAN System. Miguel Ángel Rojí, from Navantia (Spain), presented about the optimization of the design and production in the Spanish shipbuilding group of reference.

Organized every two years among the FORAN users, the Eight FORAN Users Meeting (FORUM 2014) took place from June 11-13 in the Parador de la Granja, Segovia. The event started on Wednesday, June 11, with a guided visit to the Royal Palace and Gardens of La Granja, and with a welcome reception to the nearly hundred participants that arrived from all over the world. SENER Presents Design Paper at SNAME Meeting

SENER has attended the 2013 SNAME (Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers) annual meeting from November 6-8 in Bellevue, Washington. During the event, technical sessions took place as part of the Ship Production Symposium, where engineers from the shipbuilding industry presented important innovations and advances in the state of the art for shipbuilding. Verónica Alonso, North America Area Manager from SENER Marine Business Unit, presented the paper: The use of a 3D CAD System at early design in shipbuilding, written with Antonio Valderrama and Rodrigo Pérez, all from SENER.

SENER Appoints Marine Commercial Director for Mexico

Rafael Martínez-Abarca was appointed Operations Manager of the Marine Strategic Business Unit (MaSBU) of SENER, an engineering and technology group that has a workforce of about 5,500 professionals and offices in four continents. Rafael Martínez-Abarca replaces in this position Rafael de Góngora, newly appointed MaSBU General Manager and Head of SENER’s Engineering and Marine Systems Departments. Guangdong Yuexin Ocean Engineering Co., Ltd Acquires FORAN Licenses

SENER Ingeniería y Sistemas, S.A. and Guangdong Yuexin Ocean Engineering Co., Ltd –GYOE- (formerly Yuexin Shipbuilding Co., Ltd) have signed an agreement for the implementation of the FORAN CAD/CAM System in the Chinese shipyard, to be used in their shipbuilding activities. The agreement has been signed after a visit of a delegation from SENER. Located in southern China, in Guangzhou area, GYOE is a leading and expanding international player in new buildings, specialized in the offshore market. Has a large experience in AHTS vessels, support and maintenance vessels, multi-purpose utility vessels and tugs. FORAN System was selected over the rest of CAD solutions after a three months pilot test, with successful results.

KR Engineering Signs up for FORAN

Within merely three months from its establishment, SENER Korea Engineering and Systems Co., Ltd. (SKES) has won its first contract, a license agreement with KR Engineering Co., Ltd. (KRE) for the use of FORAN, SENER’s 3D-model based software for ship design and production. By virtue of the agreement, the FORAN modules for hull form generation, hull structure, outfitting and drafting are being implemented at KRE offices in Seoul and Busan, while end-users are being trained at SKES facilities in Busan. This represents a satisfactory outcome for the relentless work carried out since mid-2011 by the SENER Marine strategic business unit and the local team that is now SENER Korea.

Seaplace acquires FORAN V70 Licenses

The Spanish engineering company Seaplace has recently acquired new licenses of the CAD/CAM FORAN System, to be used in its marine projects. The scope of the new agreement includes the packages of Forms, Naval Architecture and Advanced Design and Drawing of the version V70 of FORAN. These licenses are added to the ones Seaplace already had. “FORAN System efficiency allows us to be very competitive in concept and basic design projects and in particular in the projects of specific vessels for offshore operations” said José María Berbiela after the signature of the new agreement.

Seaplace Acquires New Licenses of FORAN V70

The Spanish engineering company Seaplace has recently acquired new licenses of the CAD/CAM FORAN System, to be used in its marine projects. The scope of the new agreement includes the packages of Forms, Naval Architecture and Advanced Design and Drawing of the version V70 of FORAN. These licenses are added to the ones Seaplace already had. “FORAN System efficiency allows us to be very competitive in concept and basic design projects and in particular in the projects of specific vessels for offshore operations” said José María Berbiela after the signature of the new agreement. Seaplace is currently using the Naval Architecture modules of FORAN V70 for the design of an Offshore Crane Vessel with a lifting capacity of 2,500 ST and length overall of 172,5 m.

SENER Setup First China FORAN Technical Support Center

An opening ceremony for the first FORAN China Technical Support Center was held in September the 27th in Zhenjiang, China. At the same time a cooperation agreement was signed between Jiangsu University of Science and Technology (JUST), SENER INGENIERIA Y SISTEMAS, S.A. (SENER) and United Force Corporation (UFC). Dong Shirun, Vice President of JUST, Luis Garcia, Executive Vice President of SENER Marine and Mr. Jeff Song, Vice President of UFC attended the ceremony. According to the agreement, 50 licenses of FORAN are installed in JUST for educational purposes and the execution of real projects. Dong emphasized that in order to give strong support to Chinese users of FORAN, JUST will also develop necessary functions, such as localization and customization, based on FORAN.

Sanoyas Choses Sener

Japan’s Sanoyas Hishino Meisho Corporation (Sanoyas) signed a contract with Spain’s SENER for the use of FORAN as its new shipbuilding 3D CAD software. The order has been sealed by Takafumi Itoh (Sanoyas Executive Director) and Luis García (SENER Marine Business Unit Vice President). Although Sanoyas have used 3D CAD developed by a major Japanese shipbuilder, it has been seeking its next shipbuilding system in order to achieve further integration of design and production, as well as efficient design with a core focus on a modern 3D CAD system. In the last stage of the selection process, ship hull and outfitting design engineers from Sanoyas analyzed the prospective system by conducting 3-week training and workshop at Tres Cantos.

Japan’s Sanoyas Hishino Meisho Corporation (Sanoyas) has signed a contract with Spain’s SENER for the use of FORAN as its new shipbuilding 3D CAD software. The order has been sealed by Takafumi Itoh (Sanoyas Executive Director) and Luis García (SENER Marine Business Unit Vice President) at a special ceremony in Tres Cantos, Spain, on May 31, 2007.
