Marco Santoro Takes Over as CEO at RMK Merrill-Stevens

Industry veteran Marco Santoro has taken the helm as chief executive officer at Miami yacht repair yard RMK Merrill-Stevens.A naval architect and marine engineer, Santoro began his career in yachting as part of the technical department at Italy's Rodriquez Yachts. In 2003, he joined Italian yacht builder the Ferretti Group as an intern in the after sales and service department, and over the course of 20 years worked his way up through a number of leadership roles, culminating as the company's vice president of refit and retail works. “My journey in this company was amazing.

The world’s most famous luxury yacht is operating an advanced BIO-SEA ballast water treatment system from France’s BIO-UV Group.Christina O, the 1943-built motor yacht named after the only daughter of Greek shipping magnate Aristotle Onassis, was fitted with a low-flow BIO-SEA system last year as part of a major refurbishment at the D.K Fotinakis yard, in Greece.To fit the limited space available in the 325ft long vessel’s machinery room, the 87m3/h capacity BIO-SEA L03-0087 system was supplied on two separate skids – one housing all mechanical components…

Sun Feng Takes the Helm at China Classification Society

Sun Feng formerly a CCS vice president, was named Chairman and President, taking over from Mo Jianhui, who retired.In a handover ceremony at CCS headquarters in Beijing, Sun paid tribute to Mo, praising his contribution to CCS.“Mr. Mo oversaw the rapid growth of our classed fleet, an expanded global network and he helped increase our international presence and influence, we thank him for all the success he helped deliver,” he said. “We have also seen our offshore business increase despite the downward trend.

Svanehøj Buys Wärtsilä Tank Control Systems

Finland-based marine equipment and technology firm Wärtsilä has sold Wärtsilä Tank Control Systems business to Svanehøj, a Danish gas pump specialist involved in the design and manufacture of specialized deep well pump solutions within the areas of gas pumps, fuel pumps, products and chemicals, and offshore products.Wärtsilä Tank Control Systems designs, builds, sells, and services measurement systems for gas tanks on LNG ships, offshore storage, and land-based LNG terminals.

Svanehøj Wins Pump Order for New Chinese MR Tankers

Svanehøj said it has landed two major P&C pump orders in China, most recently securing a contract with GSI Shipyard on a total of 96 deepwell pumps for four new MR Tankers.Svanehøj has manufactured pump systems for P&C tankers for decades, but the segment is now becoming a significantly larger part of the business. HydroHoist Lands U.S. Navy Contract

HydroHoist Boat Lifts,a manufacturer of marine dock equipment, has announced the receipt of orders from the U.S. Navy to provide HarborHoist boat lifts to protect Navy security and patrol boats.The contracts for installations include ports in Virginia, New Jersey, Connecticut and New Hampshire, to be completed in April.HydroHoist was selected through a strong vetting process based on the Navy’s confidence in HydroHoist’s history and the HarborHoist’s saltwater friendly design.

Volvo Penta Names Kelleher VP Customer Support, Training

Volvo Penta of the Americas announced the appointment of Tony Kelleher as vice president for customer support and training. Kelleher will be responsible to support both marine and industrial segments within the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean. Kelleher was previously director of the marine leisure segment with responsibility for OEM and dealer sales and partnership development for North America. He has also served as head of the service department and purchasing director within Volvo Penta of the Americas.

Cavotec wins MoorMaster EUR 6.5 mln orders

Global engineering group Cavotec has been awarded three separate orders for its innovative MoorMaster automated mooring technology for applications in Australia, Canada and the United States, with a combined value of approximately EUR 6.5 million. “The MoorMaster technology continues to gain traction and acceptance in the market place. These orders – from new and existing customers – demonstrate the considerable potential of this unique technology in the global maritime sector,” says Ottonel Popesco, Cavotec CEO. In the largest of these projects, Cavotec is to supply six MoorMaster units for the two locks on the US side of the St. Lawrence Seaway. The units are scheduled for delivery for the first lock in July 2016, and the second lock in April the following year.

Kongsberg Expands Louisiana Office, Training Facility

Kongsberg Maritime has purchased approximately 5.2 acres for new construction on an 82,980 sq ft office and training facility. Construction on the James Business Park property located on James Drive East in St. Rose, Louisiana is scheduled to begin this spring. Kongsberg Maritime moved its service department from Houston to Louisiana in 2003 establishing a small office in James Business Park with nine full-time employees. Growing together with local customers, the Louisiana office now has 110 employees occupying 35,000 sq ft of leased office space.

Bell Recovered from Wreck of HMS Erebus

The ship's bell recovered from the recently discovered Franklin Expedition shipwreck, HMS Erebus, was unveiled by the Honorable Leona Aglukkaq, Minister of the Environment and Minister responsible for Parks Canada. The artifact was recovered during dives and archaeological investigation by Parks Canada's underwater archaeology team in September. The bell was found on the deck adjacent to the ship's displaced windlass (a form of anchor winch), above which it was originally mounted. Since then, the bell has been undergoing conservation stabilization and additional research.

Eleven Missing After Hong Kong Collision

Eleven crew of a Chinese cargo ship are missing following a collision with a large container ship in the waters off Hong Kong on Monday, authorities said. Hong Kong is one of the world's busiest shipping channels, although serious accidents are rare. The cargo ship Zhong Xing 2 sank after the collision with the 300-m- (984-ft-) long Marshall Islands-registered MOL Motivator about two nautical miles southwest of Po Toi Island, a spokeswoman of the Hong Kong Maritime Department said. "Zhong Xing 2 is suspected to have sunk after the collision, and it is reported there are 12 crew onboard," said the spokeswoman, who declined to be identified in line with department policy. "One of them was picked up by a fishing vessel navigating close by," she added.

Holland America Line Retrofits Entire Fleet with VDR

Holland America Line said it will retrofit the VDR system of its entire fleet of 15 ships (which annually offers more than 500 cruises to 415 ports of call in 98 countries) with the INTERSCHALT VDR G4, opening up a wealth of new technical possibilities. "Replayer", VDR G4's online monitor, provides a detailed picture of the ship's position in real time on a chart and can transfer this playback to a notebook or a smartphone so that the captain can access an overview of the current situation at all times even from his cabin.
