Maersk to Trial Silverstream Air Lubrication System

The world’s largest container vessel operator A.P. Moller - Maersk will trial an air lubrication system on board one of its vessels to examine possible improvements to overall efficiency, focusing on the reduction of fuel consumption and associated emissions.Technology group Wärtsilä, in cooperation with Silverstream Technologies, will install Silverstream’s proprietary air lubrication system, the Silverstream System, on one of Maersk's owned large container vessels for a trial program that will have a special emphasis on the potential application of the system for methanol-fueled ships.

KVH Provides Global VSAT Connectivity to A.M. Nomikos Vessels and Crew

KVH Industries, Inc., announced that Greek shipmanager A.M. Nomikos has chosen KVH AgilePlans to provide VSAT connectivity for crew welfare and vessel operations. Nova Electronics, KVH’s service partner in Greece, has installed TracPhone V7-HTS antennas on three Nomikos vessels to date and is expected to continue the rollout of KVH’s AgilePlans service on additional vessels within the fleet in the coming months.“Crew welfare is very important to our company, and we expect the fast data speeds of the KVH systems and the reliable HTS network will be a great benefit to our seafarers and our shipping operations,” said Yiannis Sofianidis, IT Director for A.M. Telemar Wins 50-vessel Service Deal with Fairplay Towage

Marlink subsidiary Telemar said it signed a five-year service maintenance deal with Fairplay Towage to deliver bridge maintenance services across 50 of the company’s port and ocean tugs in Germany, Holland and Belgium.The contracts will consolidate service of critical bridge navigation equipment to a single provider, and scheduled service will be planned to agreed timeframes.The contract includes managing GMDSS declarations, annual radio survey, annual radar inspection, exchange of reserve-power batteries for GMDSS and SART/EPIRB/GMDSS handheld batteries.

CSSC Marine Service Adds Injection Control Unit Overhaul Service

CSSC Marine Service Co (CMS), the worldwide equipment service subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corp (CSSC), has extended its range of services for WïnGD and RT-Flex two-stroke engines, with the introduction of an injection control unit (ICU) overhaul and testing service. The development marks the first time that OEM-authorized ICU overhaul and testing has been available in China.ICU overhauls are traditionally carried out in two key ports worldwide and often require international shipment of complete ICUs to and from the repair shop at great cost.

SGRE Completes Senvion Purchase

The renewable energy major Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE) has finalized the acquisition of Senvion's European onshore service assets and intellectual property (IP).The German-Spanish manufacturer said in a press release that it has a “robust integration plan” for the assets, which will add 9GW of machines in 13 countries to its service book, bringing the total to 69GW.The addition of the Senvion assets marks an important step in the company’s growth strategy, part of the company’s L3AD2020 strategic program, and strengthens its competitive position in its multibrand portfolio.Siemens Gamesa will now service an even broader range of wind turbine technologies.

Wärtsilä and Silverstream to Collaborate

Technology group Wärtsilä, and Silverstream Technologies announced the signing of a Licence and Co-operation Agreement for future sales and servicing of the Silverstream System. As an authorized sales and service partner, Wärtsilä intends to fully integrate Silverstream’s air lubrication system within its propulsion solutions.By offering the Silverstream System as an integral part of Wärtsilä’s propulsion solution for newbuild vessels, compliance with the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) will be further improved. Under the agreement, the Silverstream System will also be available through Wärtsilä’s sales channels for retrofit installations on existing vessels where Wärtsilä is a primary solution provider.

Marlink Acquires Radio Holland's Connectivity Business

Marlink and Radio Holland have concluded a partnership agreement whereby Marlink has acquired Radio Holland’s connectivity business. According to the partners, the deal strengthens Marlink’s position in maritime VSAT, while Radio Holland will be the preferred global sales and service partner offering Marlink’s satcom connectivity portfolio in combination with its maritime electronics solutions. Furthermore, Radio Holland and the Marlink Group, including Telemar, will intensify their existing cooperation in NavCom sales and servicing.

Rolls-Royce Extends Naval Services in the Gulf

Rolls-Royce has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with United Arab Emirates (UAE) based Abu Dhabi Ship Building (ADSB) to provide naval shipbuilding, repair and refit activities across the Gulf region. The MoU is for a definitive agreement for the provision of services, with the objective of becoming a preferred service partner to each other. The agreement will include fixed service rates for onsite service attendance and turnkey repair projects in the Rolls-Royce Dubai workshop.

KVH Launches New High-speed Maritime Network on Intelsat

KVH Industries announced the launch of its next-generation, advanced maritime broadband network, joined by service partner, Intelsat. Slated for commercial availability next month, KVH’s high-speed overlay to its current mini-VSAT Broadbandsm service is expected to triple, and in some cases increase by a multiple of six, the data speeds for its maritime customers. At the core of its capabilities, KVH’s advanced maritime broadband network will incorporate Intelsat Epic satellite services and the award-winning IntelsatOne Flex platform, a global managed service designed to optimize bandwidth allocations and provide flexible coverage where it is needed. KVH’s mini-VSAT Broadband network is also expected to benefit from increased Asian satellite capacity from SKY Perfect JSAT.

In the wake of its acquisition of the electric drive specialist Torqeedo GmbH, Deutz announced today that it will acquire IML Motori, an Italian sales and service partner based in Lomagna near Milan, a move which simultaneously strengthens its presence in Italy and gives the company market penetration in the service segment. The subsidiary IML Service and the Romanian sales and service company IML Motoare also form part of the acquisition. Deutz is looking to drive growth in its profitable service business and increase its proximity to customers in the Mediterranean.

German ship manager NSB Group  has added 31 new ships under its management. In the course of the new joint venture named PT Asia Marine Temas fleet of NSB grows up to 96 vessels in total. At the same time NSB extends its business in Southeast Asia. Partner of the new joint venture is Indonesian shipping company Temasline. Headquarter of the company is located in Jakarta.
