ADNOC L&S Acquires Ultramax Bulk Carrier

ADNOC Logistics & Services (L&S), the maritime arm of Abu Dhabi's national oil firm ADNOC, has acquired an Ultramax bulk carrier Al Karama. The purchase follows the acquisition of two Ultramax carriers earlier this year.The Al Karama bulk carrier vessel was built in 2019 and has a deadweight of 64,000 metric tons, ADNOC said. The Switch Partners with Shipbuilder CSIC

Drive train technology specialist The Switch has become one of the first foreign companies to sign a partnership agreement with Chinese shipbuilding conglomerate China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (CSIC). On Monday, September 11, The Switch entered into a strategic partnership agreement with CSIC/711, which operates under the direct jurisdiction of CSIC as the sole R&D institute of marine diesel engines in China. Zim Adds Pacific North West Service

Zim Integrated Shipping Services (ZIM) is introducing an additional Asia-Pacific North West Trade route, CEN – (China Express Northwest service) with the following rotation: Xingang – Qingdao – Shanghai – Prince Rupert – Xingang. CEN is the only Pacific North West service in the market to call Xingang directly, offering the fastest transit time in the market on the eastbound leg from Xingang, Qingdao and Shanghai. It also offers smooth gateway via Prince Rupert to US and Canada inland destinations, with efficient rail connectivity using CN rail network. The new service joins ZIM’s network serving the Asia-Pacific North West trade, which includes the Pacific North Express Service 1 (NP1) Pacific North Express Service 3 (NP3). The Service is due to commence on October 25th.

Wärtsilä Nacos Platinum System for Maersk Boxships

Wärtsilä has been contracted to supply the Wärtsilä Nacos Platinum integrated navigation, automation, and propulsion control systems for 27 new container vessels being built for Denmark based Maersk Line A/S. The contracts with Wärtsilä were signed in July and October 2015, and January 2016. The vessels are under construction at yards in China and South Korea. With these orders, the latest 47 new buildings in the Maersk line fleet will all be fitted with the Wärtsilä Nacos Platinum system, thus emphasising its market application success. Wärtsilä will also provide a power management system and control consoles, as well as external communication facilities. The Wärtsilä equipment is scheduled for delivery to the yards commencing in April 2016.

WSS to Supply Gas Detectors for COSCON Container Fleet

Wilhelmsen Ships Service (WSS) has signed a contract with COSCO Container Lines Co. Ltd (COSCON) to supply its Unitor multi-gas detectors to the company’s expanding container fleet. The deal, worth more than $200,000, covers 70 vessels, including 20 newbuilds scheduled to launch between now and 2018, plus a five-year service agreement to maintain the detection units. “WSS have consistently delivered the products and service solutions our business demands,” said Mao QingDao, Technical Director of the COSCON fleet.

Swire Shipping, Rickmers-Linie Form Strategic Partnership

Connecting more than 12 ports, monthly multipurpose service with lifting capacity of up to 120 metric tons. Swire Shipping and Rickmers-Linie has announced the launch of a connecting carrier partnership. Under this partnership, Swire Shipping will be able to connect its breakbulk and project cargoes in India and the Middle East, through Rickmers-Linie’s Middle East and India Service, to its network in Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific, via Singapore. The first voyage is scheduled to depart Mumbai already on 9 June 2015, the first voyage from Jebel Ali being on 28 June 2015. AAL Expands into Prince Rupert

KVH TracVision owners in the U.S. KVH Industries, Inc., is bringing the benefits of “Pay-As-You-Go” satellite TV service from DISH Network to customers in the marine market for the first time. This program gives seasonal boaters with TracVision satellite TV antenna systems the flexibility to pay for DISH Network service only when their boat is in the water. Hapag-Lloyd Launches New Service

Enhanced service network between Japan and South East Asia / Port rotation includes four Japanese ports / First sailing mid of March. Hapag-Lloyd is launching the new Japan-Singapore-Jakarta service (JSJ) which will commence on March 12 from Singapore. The new service will further enhance Hapag-Lloyd’s service network between Japan and South East Asia, and offer fast and reliable transit between Japan, Singapore and Jakarta. The JSJ service will be jointly operated by Hapag-Lloyd, NYK and “K” Line with four vessels with a nominal capacity of 4,200 TEU each.

MARIS Inks ECDIS Deal with New Sunrise

Marine navigation and communications specialist MARIS AS, of Norway and Chinese marine electronics company New Sunrise Co., Ltd. (NSR), of Suzhou, have signed an agreement that establishes MARIS as the largest ECDIS original equipment manufacturer in the world. The OEM deal, formalized at December’s Marintec 2013 in Shanghai, will see NSR produce MARIS ECDIS software and supply it in combination with NSR hardware. NSR has developed a PC and Monitor specific to maritime applications.
