SGS Acquires SRN Group Diving & ROV Underwater Services (Belgium)

Commercial diving company Subsea Global Solutions (SGS) announced it has acquired SRN Group Diving & ROV Underwater Services (Belgium), an underwater services and remotely operated underwater vehicle (ROV) hull cleaning firm based in Belgium.With this acquisition, SGS expands its global footprint to Europe, acquires industry leading ROV hull cleaning technology and increases the number of its home ports worldwide to 14.Paul Peters, CEO of SGS, said, “This is a much awaited, critical milestone for SGS.

Penfield Marine, Macquarie Group Execute Carbon Neutral Voyage

Tanker operator Penfield Marine and Macquarie Group’s Commodities and Global Markets division announced the execution of Penfield’s first carbon-neutral voyage in a collaboration that will enable Penfield Marine to offer environmentally differentiated freight products to its customers.The structure achieves carbon-neutral freight by retiring carbon offsets sufficient to cover the carbon footprint of an entire voyage, including emissions associated with the vessel’s ballast leg, positioning the vessel to perform the voyage, the laden passage and all in port load and discharge operations.

Partners Aim to Help Shipowners Meet Hazardous Materials Regulations

Maritime and offshore specialist IT firm SRO Solutions is launching a new partnership with international inspection agency SGS and maritime digitization specialist NautilusLog to help shipowners meet this year’s Inventory of Hazardous Materials (IHM) deadline, and manage ongoing IHM maintenance.Owners of European-flagged vessels of 500 GT and over have until December 31, 2020 to create an IHM. In order to comply with the new EU-Ship Recycling Regulation, the presence of materials such as leaded paint and asbestos must be noted, along with its location on the ship and the volumes involved.

RCCL Taps SGS for Maintenance and Repair

Subsea Global Solutions (SGS) has entered into an agreement with Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. (RCCL). Under the agreement SGS will provide underwater hull maintenance and repair services for their fleet of 58 ships trading under six different brands (Royal Caribbean International, Celebrity, Azamara, TUI, Silversea, and Pullmantur). SGS Acquires UWC and GDS

Subsea Global Solutions (SGS), a commercial diving company, has announced that it has acquired Underwater Contractors Pte. Ltd. (UWC), a prominent commercial diving firm based in Singapore, and Gray Diving Services Pty. Ltd. (GDS), a commercial diving firm based in Sydney, Australia, through separate transactions. With these two tandem acquisitions, SGS expands its global footprint in the Asia-Pacific region beyond Busan, South Korea, where it had a local office for the last 7 years and increases the number of its home ports worldwide to 13.

SGS Group Orders Ballast Water Monitoring Kits

aqua-tools, the specialist in water microbiology, has delivered the first in series of 30 state-of-the-art Rapid ATP Ballast Water Monitoring Systems to SGS Group. The Geneva-based testing and certification body has agreements in place with several countries to inspect and monitor the treated ballast waters of vessels entering their ports, the latest of which is The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Underwater Ship Repair Specialists Merge

Subsea Global Solutions acquires All-Sea Underwater Solutions   Lariat Partners, a Denver-based private equity firm, announced that its portfolio company Subsea Global Solutions (SGS) has acquired All-Sea Underwater Solutions (All-Sea), merging two companies specializing in underwater ship maintenance, repair and marine construction.    Paul Peters, Chief Executive Officer of SGS, said the acquisition would “expand our scope of services, further drive innovation and broaden our global footprint.” He added that the two firms have worked together as partners for years.   Vincent Cummings, CEO of All-Sea added, “This merger into Subsea Global Solutions gives our team the ability to continue our growth and better serve our clientele globally.”

IBIA Finalises Bunker Surveyor SOP

International Bunker Industry Association (IBIA) has finalised a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to help bunker surveyors identify their responsibilities when overseeing bunker deliveries involving Mass Flow Meters (MFMs) in Singapore. The SOP has been developed to address industry concerns and benefit all parties in the bunkering supply chain, and build trust in this new operating paradigm as Singapore moves toward the mandatory use of MFMs for supply of marine fuel oil (MFO). The SOP project was initiated by Capt Rahul Choudhuri of VPS when he took over as Chairman of the Executive Committee for IBIA in Asia in February this year. He saw a need for a harmonised approach for bunker surveyor practices when dealing with MFM bunker deliveries.

The Port of Vancouver USA welcomed the M/V Jobst Oldendorff, commanded by Capt. Baisie of Ghana, on her maiden voyage October 16. Capt. Baisie and his 21-member multinational crew were welcomed to Vancouver by Oldendorff Port Captain Russell D’Souza , Chris Cummins and Sandra Avila of Pacific North West Ship & Cargo Services, Noa Lidstone and Ken McLaughlin of Kinder Morgan Bulk Terminals, David Nagel and Shawn Robinson of SGS North America Inc., and Mike Schiller and Steve Mickelson of the Port of Vancouver.

DNV GL Approves Permanent Underwater Wet Welding Repairs

DNV GL and Subsea Global Solutions LLC. are proud to announce that they have completed an extensive joint research and development program, that will allow permanent repairs to be carried out by underwater wet welding on certain areas of vessels. Subsea Global Solutions’ global network of coded welder divers will be available to perform these permanent repairs on a case by case basis utilizing this procedure in suitable locations throughout the world in accordance with the approvals given by DNV GL. Over the last two and a half years, Subsea Global Solutions welded in excess of 80 groove weld test plates underwater at depth in their training facilities in Miami, Florida, Long Beach, California and Terneuzen, the Netherlands.

USCG Presents William M. Benkert Awards

Vice Commandant of the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) Vice Adm. Peter Neffenger presented the 2014 Rear Adm. William Benkert Awards at the American Petroleum Institute's (API) annual tanker conference Thursday. The award is given to support and recognize maritime industry efforts for their environmental protection programs. This biennial award was started in 1995 and honors industry leaders in the field of marine safety and environmental protection and provides an opportunity for the Coast Guard to recognize leadership, innovation and creativity found among those members of the maritime industry. Clariant & Siemens To Promote New Sour Gas Shift Technology

Siemens Energy and Clariant, a world leader in specialty chemicals, signed an agreement to cooperate in the commercialization of a new, jointly developed sour gas shift (SGS) technology for coal gasification. The agreement appoints Clariant as the exclusive catalyst supplier for all projects where Siemens offers sour gas shift ("SGS") systems. While the collaboration covers all global projects, commercialization will focus on China – the region with the highest growth rate of coal-to-chemical projects.
