Liberian Registry Strengthens Asia Team

The Liberian Registry has announced strategic new appointments in a number of key areas within the Asian regional offices operated by its US-based manager, the Liberian International Ship & Corporate Registry (LISCR). Wan Ching Chiang has been promoted to Registrations Manager for the Liberian Registry in Singapore. Chiang is embarking on her fifth year with the Liberian Registry, which she joined as Registrations and Corporate Coordinator. In her new role, she will be overseeing vessel mortgage and corporate registrations for the Liberian Registry’s fast- growing number of South-East Asian clients. Chiang graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and has previous experience with working in the financial industry with both HSBC and Barclays Capital.

SENER Lectures on 3D Ship Digital Design

The SENER Group division in Shanghai has presented the FORAN System in the Dalian Ocean University (DOU) in China on October 28. Invited by the DOU, the Technical Consultant Zhi Jiang, from SENER´s office in Shanghai, gave the lecture ‘3D Ship Digital Design with FORAN System’ about the outfitting design with FORAN, one of its main design disciplines. More than 40 students from the School of Navigation and Naval Architecture of DOU have attended the lecture with great interest in FORAN.

Wärtsilä Engines for Cutter Dredgers

One of the world's largest non self-propelled cutter dredger vessels, which is also one of the largest of all cutter dredgers in the world with 5200 kW of cutter power, will feature Wärtsilä engines, both to generate power and to drive the dredging pump. The ship has been designed by the Design & Research Institute of Ship and Ocean Engineering at Shanghai Jiaotong University, and is being built for Jiangsu Haihong Construction Engineering Co. at the company's yard in China. The order with Wärtsilä was placed in December, 2014. The 6500 CBM vessel will be fitted with four 12-cylinder Wärtsilä 32 engines, two of which will be used to drive the dredging pump. For this application the 6000 kW engines will run at 775 rpm instead of the normal 750 rpm.

Passenger Vessel Accident on China Coast Leaves 2 Dead, 2 Missing

Passenger vessel hit cable of a moored cargo ship off the East Coast of Jiangsu Province Two people were killed and another two missing when their power boat hit the cable of a cargo ship in east China's Jiangsu Province, local maritime officials said. Eight people, including six students of Shanghai Jiaotong University, a tour guide and a boat driver, were aboard when the accident happened in Taihu lake in the city of Suzhou, the municipal maritime officials said. One college student and the tour guide died after treatment failed in hospital. Four others were treated in hospital. Two students were missing, they said. Search for the missing students in under way.

ABS and CCS Discuss Energy Development in China

The growing importance of deepwater exploration and production developments offshore China led classification societies ABS and CCS (China Classification Society) to conduct a joint “Deepsea Developments in the China Offshore Industry” meeting on June 17. The meeting, which was held in Beijing, brought together leading offshore industry professionals to discuss a wide range of energy development issues. More than 100 representatives from the Chinese government, shipbuilders, designers, research institutes, energy corporations and universities attended. Topics included a discussion of the global energy market outlook from research firm Infield Systems…

ABS Establishes China Offshore Technology Center

(Houston, TX---) ABS, the leading provider of classification services to the global offshore industry, announces the establishment of the ABS China Offshore Technology Center (COTC) in partnership with Shanghai’s Jiaotong University (SJTU). The focus of the center will be on new technology research for offshore facilities. While the research efforts will support development activities in the Greater China region, applied research will also be conducted on a wide range of oil and gas development issues.
