Anglo American Takes Delivery of Final LNG Dual-fuel Bulk Carrier

Anglo American has taken delivery of its 10th and final dual-fueled bulk carrier powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG), the company said on Wednesday.The capesize-plus LNG dual-fueled bulk carriers have been built and delivered over the last three years from Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co.

Performance Shipping Orders Two LR2 Tankers

Greek shipowner Performance Shipping Inc. announced it has signed two shipbuilding contracts with China Shipbuilding Trading Co. Ltd. (CSTC) and Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co. Ltd. (SWS) for the construction of two 114,000 DWT LNG-ready LR2 Aframax product/crude oil tanker vessels.The newbuilds, expected to be delivered in January and April of 2026, were ordered at a purchase price of US$64,845,000 per vessel, net of third-party commission. 15% of the purchase price is payable upon receipt of a refund guarantee

SWS Delivers Dual-fuel Capesize to the Angelicoussis Group

Greek shipowner the Angelicoussis Group announced its dry bulk division has taken delivery of its first dual-fuel Capesize bulk carrier.Ubuntu Unity was officially handed over to its Maran Dry Management (MDM) from Chinese shipbuilder Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (SWS) on February 28, 2023.The newbuild is 299.9 meters long with a 47.5-meter beam and cargo capacity of about 190,000 metric tons. It is classed by DNV and flies the Greek flag.A sister vessel, Ubuntu Community, is scheduled to be delivered to MDM from SWS in the coming months.

SWS Launches New Tanker for Enesel

Greek shipping company the Enesel Group announced the launch of its new Aframax/LR2 tanker Kavafis.The newbuild, which is currently being built by China's Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co Ltd (SWS), is the first in a series of three vessels ordered by the Enesel Group. It was launched on December 30, Enesel said.The vessel will be classed by Lloyd’s Register and built to Hellenic flag requirements.It is scheduled for delivery in April 2023.

Eastern Pacific Shipping's first LNG-fueled Newcastlemax bulk carrier in an order of 13 ABS-Classed vessels, has recently taken on its first load of LNG bunker fuel at Singapore.The 209,936 DWT dual-fuel vessel, Mount Tourmaline, was built by Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., China, and delivered to EPS on January 28, 2022.Captain Anil Singh, EPS Chief Operating Officer said: “Our fleet of dual-fuel LNG Newcastlemax vessels will play a major role in our decarbonization efforts and the industry’s energy transition.

SWS Building Cruise Ship for CSSC, Carnival JV

China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) subsidiary Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co. Ltd (SWS) has started hull construction for the first cruise ship that it is building for CSSC Carnival Cruise Shipping Limited, joint venture between Carnival Corporation and CSSC.The new vessel, scheduled for delivery in 2023, will accommodate about 4,250 passengers, in addition to 1,400 crew members. It is said to be the first cruise ship built in China for the Chinese market.A joint venture set up by Italian shipbuilding group Fincantieri and CSSC Cruise Technology Development Co.

SWS Shipyard Delivers Two Platform Suppliers for COSL

Shanghai-based SWS shipyard has delivered two newbuild platform supply vessels to Sinoocean.The vessels the 'Guo Hai Min Xing' and the 'Guo Hai Min Sheng' -  both of the ULSTEIN PX121 design - are operating for COSL – China Oilfield Services Limited, with whom they have a long-term charter.Two more vessels of the same design at SWS (Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co., Ltd.), have completed their sea trial and will also be delivered to COSL shortly, according to schedule, Ulstein, the vessel designer, said Monday. The owner of all four vessels is Sinoocean. Image Credit: Ulstein

ABB Propulsion for China-Built Cruise Ship

China’s first domestically built cruise ship, to be built at Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (SWS), will feature a power and propulsion package from ABB.From ABB's perspective the deal includes two Azipod steerable propulsion systems for the 323m vessel, due for delivery in 2023. The ship will be built to accommodate 5,000 passengers and is designed to suit the tastes of Chinese cruise travelers whose numbers are expected to rise to 8-10 million annually by 2025, according to industry body Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA).In addition to the Azipods

SHIPBUILDING: CSSC Signs for 36 Newbuilds, Worth $1.48B

Chinese shipbuilding conglomerate China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) has signed  contracts for 36 newbuildngs worth a total contracts value of over RMB10bn (USD1.48bln).According to the state media Xinhua, the vessels will be built at a number of different yards under the CSSC umbrella and CSSC (Hong Kong) Shipping Company, will provide financing service to all 36 newbuildings.The contracts include manufacturing of 36 new ships including 174,000-cubic-meter liquefied natural gas (LNG) ships, 13,000-tonne multi-purpose heavy lift ships, 300,000-tonne VLCC feeder container ships, 95,000-tonne ice-enhanced bulk carriers as well

China Cruising: Carnival Corp Launches China JV

Carnival Corporation & plc (NYSE/LSE: CCL; NYSE: CUK), has announced that its cruise joint venture with China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) will launch this week under the name CSSC Carnival Cruise Shipping Limited. The new China-based cruise company plans to operate its own fleet to serve Chinese cruise guests by the end of 2019.CSSC Carnival Cruise Shipping Limited announced an agreement to purchase two existing ships from Carnival Corporation’s Costa Group, the leading cruise operator in Europe and Asia.

LR Grants AiP for Dual-fuel Bulker Design

Lloyd's Register presented Approval in Principle (AiP) to Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co., Ltd (SWS) for its liquefied natural gas (LNG) dual-fueled Newcastlemax 210,000 DWT bulk carrier design during a ceremony this week at the Posidonia 2018 trade show in Greece.SWS and LR have agreed to jointly develop the bulk carrier design, which is based on an existing conventional bulk carrier design and updated to incorporate LNG propulsion.LR provided assistance and support, in terms of the LNG fuel system application and verifying the design against the IGF code

TMC to Equip FPSO Newbuild

Oslo based compressor supplier TMC Compressors said it has won a contract to supply the marine compressed air system for a new floating production storage and offloading unit (FPSO) currently being built in China for Dutch firm SBM Offshore. TMC was contracted by Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co., Ltd (SWS) to provide a compressed air system consisting of 4 x 400 kW service air compressors with associated air dryers and filters to the shipbuilder’s yard in Shanghai. The contract value is undisclosed. “There seems to be a recovery under way in floating production market. Encouragingly, TMC’s marine compressors are increasingly being selected for major FPSO developments,” said Per Kjellin, managing director of TMC Compressors.

WinGD X-DF engines will power CMA CGM’s record setting containerships. French shipping line CMA CGM has chosen WinGD’s largest, 92 cm bore, dual-fuel low-speed engine to power its series of groundbreaking box ships – presently the largest on order globally, and the first ultra large container vessels with capable of running on liquefied natural gas (LNG). The series of nine ultra-large 22,000 TEU capacity containerships will be built at Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co., Ltd.

Suezmax Tanker Delivered to TMS

Chinese shipbuilder Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (SWS) said it delivered a 158,000 DWT Suezmax oil tanker Greek operator TMS Tankers on July 18.   The vessel, Fontana, has an overall length of 274 meters, molded breadth of 48 meters and draft of 16 meters. It is suitable for carrying crude oil having flash points at or below 60℃, and fully meets the regulations of EEDI, the builder said.

China’s Largest Box Ships Powered by ABB Turbochargers

ABB turbochargers are powering the main engines and auxiliary engines of the largest containership ever built in China, a 20,000 TEU vessel named COSCO Shipping Taurus, launched in June 2017. This first ship was built by Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co., Ltd (SWS) for delivery to COSCO Shipping Lines Co. Ltd, the world’s fourth largest container shipping company. A further ten vessels also for COSCO Shipping Lines will be applied with the same ABB turbocharger configuration. They will add to the company’s fleet of 311 containerships with a total capacity of 1.64 million TEU.

Scorpio Sells Two Kasamax Bulkers

Scorpio Bulkers Inc. said it has reached agreements with unaffiliated third parties to sell two Kamsarmax bulk carriers approximately $45 million combined. The two vessels, SBI Charleston and SBI Cakewalk, were both built in 2014 at Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. in China.

Carnival Orders Two Cruise Ships for China

Fincantieri, China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) and Carnival Corporation & plc signed a binding Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) for the construction of two cruise ships, with an option for additional four, the first units of the kind ever built in China for the Chinese market. The parties signed the MoA on behalf of the joint venture between Fincantieri and CSSC Cruise Technology Development Co., Ltd (CCTD), of the joint venture between Carnival Corporation and CSSC, and of the shipyard Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co., Ltd (SWS).

Gener8 Miltiades Delivered

Gener8 Maritime, Inc. a leading U.S.-based provider of international seaborne crude oil transportation services, announced that it took delivery of the "ECO" VLCC the Gener8 Miltiades on October 25, 2016 from Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co. Ltd. ("SWS"). The Gener8 Miltiades  represents the sixteenth of 21 "ECO" VLCCs expected to be delivered into Gener8 Maritime's fleet. Upon delivery, the Gener8 Miltiades entered Navig8 Group's VL8 Pool. The Gener8 Miltiades is the sixth "ECO" VLCC delivered by SWS to Gener8 Maritime, concluding our newbuilding program with the yard.

DNV GL to Class SWS Built ULCS

DNV GL signed a newbuilding classification agreement with Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (SWS) for the classification of three 20,000 TEU ultra large container ships (ULCS) for COSCO Container Lines Co., Ltd. (COSCON). Scheduled for delivery beginning in January 2018, the vessels will be dual classed by DNV GL and China Classification Society (CCS) and will be deployed in the Far East–Europe trade. “This contract is another milestone in China’s evolution into one of the world’s leading shipbuilding nations,” said Jan-Olaf Probst, Head of Business Development Hamburg. “SWS has been on a very strong development path and has consistently been one of the top Chinese yards in terms of efficiency and innovation

Paragon Extends Jackup Rig Delivery at Waigaoqiao

Paragon Offshore plc, a global provider of offshore drilling rigs, reported that a wholly-owned subsidiary has signed an agreement with Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co., LTD., to extend the delivery date of the high specification Friede and Goldman JU-2000E jackup Prospector 7 to a date 12 months after the subsidiary has technically accepted the unit from the shipyard. The company anticipates that technical acceptance of the unit will occur on or before December 31, 2015. China-Made Vessel Delivered to CMA CGM

A large container ship produced by Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. was delivered to leading French container shipping group CMA CGM on Saturday in Shanghai, reports Xinhua. The vessel is named "Zheng He" after the famous ancient Chinese navigator. Its a 18,000-TEU container ship, designed by China State Shipping Corporation. Zheng He is the largest China has ever made and its deck is as large as four soccer fields, the producer said. The ship is a seventh-generation container ship, manufacturing of which has long been monopolized by the Republic of Korea. Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. said it is preparing for the construction of 20,000-TEU container ships.

Diana Shipping Acquires Two More Bulkers

Diana Shipping Inc. Diana Shipping Inc. signed, through a separate wholly-owned subsidiary, a Memorandum of Agreement on to acquire a 2010-built 82,194 dwt Kamsarmax dry bulk vessel from an unaffiliated third party. The vessel, m/v Torm Island, to be renamed Medusa, was acquired for a purchase price of $18.05 million and is expected to be delivered to the buyer during the second quarter of 2015.
