The port and terminal operator International Container Terminal Services (ICTSI) said that  its flagship Manila International Container Terminal (MICT)  recently took delivery of another new quay crane (QC) and eight new hybrid rubber tired gantries (RTGs).According to a press release, the terminal has the largest fleet of modern container-handling equipment in the Philippines today with 18 QCs and 58 RTGs.Manufactured by Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industry Co. Ltd. (ZPMC), the QC is part of the five from ICTSI’s 2018 USD80-million capacity improvement program package. With a reach of up to 16 rows across twin, the new QC can service the largest feeder vessels calling the Philippines.

China has has unveiled a massive island-building vessel, which has been called “a magic island-maker” by its designer and is considered the most powerful vessel of its type in Asia, the state media reported. Named Tian Kun Hao, the ship is reported to have a deck the size of nine basketball courts and be capable of dredging up to 6,000 cubic meters an hour and digging as deep as 35 meters under the sea floor. The ship, capable of building artificial islands of the sort the country has constructed in the contested South China Sea, was launched last Friday at a port in eastern Jiangsu province, according to China Daily. The Marine Design and Research Institute in Shanghai, which designed the vessel, described it as a “magic island-maker” on Saturday.

Cranes: much more than just critical equipment. At ZPMC, it means the supply chain itself. In post-Panamax world – that is to say one which includes an expanded, deepened and improved Panama Canal – there are many layers to the logistics onion. Today South Carolina Ports Authority reported nearly two percent growth of twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) volume since its fiscal year began in July. SCPA handled 169,477 TEUs in October, an increase from 164,734 TEUs moved during the same month last year. Fiscal year to date, SCPA's container volume reached 689,753 TEUs, a year-over-year increase of 1.73 percent. As measured in pier containers, or total boxes moved across SCPA's docks, fiscal year-to-date volume is up by 6,227 containers. The delivery of two super post-Panamax cranes at South Carolina Ports Authority (SCPA) on Friday marked another step in the port’s push for big ship readiness, to be followed in the coming years by the completion of the Wando Welch wharf project and harbor deepening to 52 feet. Yidong Terminal has ordered nine additional retrofit hybrid rubber-tired gantry cranes (RTGs) produced by integrator CCCC Shanghai Equipment Engineering (CCCCSEE) for Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industry Co. Ltd. (ZPMC), to be installed in Port of Shanghai. This addition will bring the total number of such hybrid cranes to 21 in the Port of Shanghai, spanning three terminals: Yanshan, Waigaoqiao and Yidong – the largest installations of hybrid electric port equipment in the world.

Sociedad Puerto Industrial de Aguadulce S.A. (SPIA), a unit of International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI) in Colombia, recently received four super post Panamax quay cranes (QC) and five rubber-tired gantries (RTG) as it enters the final stage of preparation for the operational launch in 2016 of the Aguadulce Multi-User Container Terminal (AMCT) at the Port of Buenaventura, Colombia. Manufactured by Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. (ZPMC), the QCs have an individual lifting capacity of 60 tons, and feature twin lift spreaders. They can reach up to 65 meters into the water and perform up to 40 moves per hour. With a maximum lift height of 46 meters, the QCs are capable of servicing 18,000-TEU Triple E class vessels.

Corvus Energy informs it will provide the battery systems for an additional two hybrid solutions for new rubber-tired gantry cranes (RTGs) that will be produced by integrator CCCC Shanghai Equipment Engineering (CCCCSEE) for Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industry Co. Ltd. (ZPMC). The cranes are for Shanghai International Port Group and will be installed in Yidong Terminal, Shanghai. The new orders will add to a total of 11 RTGs with Corvus ESSs. CCCCSEE’s commitment to implementation of more efficient RTGs directly lessens the environmental impact of crane operations, Corvus Energy explained, adding, the use of battery hybrid technology substantially reduces fuel consumption and harmful fossil fuel emissions. Cranes equipped in this manner are proven in the field to operate at optimal efficiency.

Corvus Energy announced it will provide the battery systems for an additional six new integrated hybrid solutions for new rubber-tired gantry cranes (RTGs) that will be produced by integrator CCCC Shanghai Equipment Engineering (CCCCSEE) for Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industry Co. Ltd. (ZPMC) and installed in Waigaoqiao Terminal, Shanghai. CCCCSEE is leading the shift towards green technology in China’s largest port by integrating diesel-battery hybrid RTG technology. This latest order of six Corvus ESSs for hybrid RTGs follows two previous orders for the same systems installed in Shanghai last year. Cranes equipped in this manner operate at optimal efficiency with decreased fuel consumption, reduced emissions and lower operating costs due to reduced maintenance, Corvus Energy said.

MacGregor, part of Cargotec, has received a large order from Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industry Co Ltd (ZPMC). The contract is for four offshore cranes, including a 400-metric-ton SWL active heave-compensated crane capable of deploying 3,000-meter of wire rope.   All four cranes will be fitted to a new 145-meter dive support vessel (DSV) under construction at the yard for U.K.-based operator Sealion Shipping. Delivery of the cranes to the Chinese shipyard is scheduled during third quarter of 2016.   Sealion is an offshore support company that manages and operates offshore support vessels for Toisa. The DP3 vessel is equipped for worldwide operations in the oil and gas sector and on ultra-deepwater projects. Delivery is planned for early 2017.

Abu Dhabi Terminals (ADT), the manager and operator of Khalifa port container terminal informs that the terminal has received a new batch of 3 of the world’s largest and most modern ship-to-shore (STS) quay cranes. The Super Post Panamax quay cranes were produced by Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industry Co. Ltd. in China at a cost of US$28-million, and were transported by ship to Khalifa Port’s container terminal (claimed to be the first semi-automated container terminal in the region). Just one of these STS cranes is 126.5 meters high and weighs 1,932 tons.
