Ford Achieves Important Milestone

Pre-Commissioning Unit Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78) completed its turn ship evolution June 11. This is a major milestone that brings the country's newest nuclear powered aircraft carrier another step closer to delivery and commissioning later this year. "Turning the ship is an opportunity for the crew to demonstrate for the first time all the procedures required to get the ship underway safely," said Commanding Officer Capt. Richard McCormack. This operation marks the first time Ford has moved from its pier since coming out of dry dock in November 2013. The ship's stern now faces the James River. One of the most important accomplishments of the Turn Ship evolution was a "Sally Test".

Hanran, Heywood Join Townsville Port Board

Port of Townsville Limited (POTL) has welcomed the announcement this morning by Treasurer Curtis Pitt and Minister for Ports and Energy and Water Supply Mark Bailey of the appointment of two new locally-based Directors to its Board. Mr Shane Hanran and Ms Megan Heywood assume their positions on the Board effective today. POTL Chair Renita Garard said that today’s announcement was a real boost to the port’s Board and that the skills and experience of the two appointees would service the business well as it embarks upon long term expansion plans. “Mr Hanran and Ms Heywood bring a vast amount of experience to the table in both the engineering and legal disciplines, which are both very relevant and critical skills to run an efficient port business,” she said.

St. Johns Ship Building delivers two tugs to Smithbridge for high profile terminal construction project in Botany Bay. St. Johns Ship Building of Palatka, Fla. delivered two custom built twin screw push tugs, the Lady Shayne and the Lady Dashelle, for Smithbridge of Brisbane Australia.
