DP World Raises $2.3Bln, Rings Nasdaq Bell

Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Group Chairman and CEO of the global port operator DP World, rang the market-opening bell at Nasdaq Dubai to mark the listings of two sukuks (Arabic name for financial certificates) and two conventional bonds worth $2.3 billion.DP World will use the capital raised for debt refinancing and to fund growth opportunities.The listings, carried out during 2019, comprise two Sukuk of one billion US dollars and 500 million US dollars, and two conventional bonds of 500 million US dollars and 300 million US dollars.Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Group Chairman and CEO of DP World, said: “Our debt issuances this year were well received in the market by a wide variety of investors in the region and around the world…

Dubai Intros Floating Solar Power Plants

The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has issued a request for proposal (RFP) to appoint consultants to study, develop and construct floating solar photovoltaic plants in the Arabian Gulf."This is a new and innovative initiative by DEWA to use solar power that supports the objectives of the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 (DCES 2050) to diversify the energy mix in Dubai, to make the Emirate a global hub for clean energy and green economy, and provide 75% of Dubai's total power output from clean energy by 2050," said a press release from the authority.The consultancy services include a feasibility study, the technical requirements for a floating solar photovoltaic plant…

DP World Sets Its Sights on Hyperloop Cargo Shipping

Dubai-based port operator DP World has partnered with Sir Richard Branson’s Virgin Hyperloop One to create a new venture that aims to provide hyperloop-enabled cargo systems.DP World and the U.S.-based Virgin Hyperloop One introduced their vision for “the future of on-demand freight transportation” at an event on April 29 at the historic vessel Queen Elizabeth 2.The joint venture, called DP World Cargospeed, will set out to be the world’s first to ship cargo with hyperloop technology.

New Marina for Luxury Yachts at DP World's Rashid Port

DP World has announced plans to build a new marina for luxury yachts at Port Rashid in Dubai. The project comes in response to an increased demand for luxury yachts. Tenders for construction will be invited soon. The first phase of the project is scheduled to open by 2018, with a capacity of more than 400 boats and sailing yachts with lengths in the range of 15 to 35 metres. The second phase will be for luxury yachts berth with length of more than 100 metres. DP World CEO Sharaf Retires

DP World today announces that, after 23 years with the Group and 11 successful years as Group CEO, Mohammed Sharaf has retired from DP World Group, effective today, to pursue other opportunities. The Board has commenced a process to identify a permanent successor. Pending that appointment, the Chairman of the Company will carry out the Group CEO’s duties and functions on an interim basis. Jebel Ali Port Leads in Port Productivity

Global marine terminal operator DP World’s flagship Jebel Ali Port has demonstrated once again that it delivers the world’s best productivity for ships berthed at its docks. According the latest JOC Port Productivity data, compiled by industry analysts Journal of Commerce, Jebel Ali recorded a world-leading 131 moves per ship per hour in 2014, up 10 percent from 119 in 2013. The ranking is based on JOC’s analysis of more than 125,000 port calls in 2014 that placed Jebel Ali form the UAE and six ports from China in the Global Top 10 for the year.

ABB wins UAE Order for Solar Power Grid Integration

ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, has won an order worth around $55 million from Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (DEWA), the leading power utility in United Arab Emirates (UAE), to build a substation that will integrate power from the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum solar park. The order was awarded in the third quarter of 2014. The gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) substation will enhance transmission capacity, boost power supplies and strengthen the reliability of the grid. The 100 megawatt (MW) Phase II of the solar power plant in Seih Al Dahal, about 50 kilometers (km) south of Dubai, is scheduled to commence generation in 2017. The solar park is one of the biggest renewable energy projects in the Middle East and North Africa.

5 Quay Cranes Arrive At DP WORLD’S Jebel Ali Terminal

Global marine terminal operator DP World today announced that its new Container Terminal 3 at its flagship Jebel Ali Port is making good progress with the arrival of 5 new quay cranes and half of its 19 automated cranes being tested before the start of initial operations in the next few weeks. The 4 million TEU (twenty foot equivalent container units) capacity of Terminal 3, makes it the world’s largest semi-automated facility once fully operational. DP World has yesterday welcomed the first scheduled vessel to call at its new Container Terminal 3 in Jebel Ali, Dubai, as it gears up to serve customers at the state-of-the-art facility.
