Shell Netherlands CEO Christens Wagenborg's W2W Vessel
The second Walk to Work vessel in the fleet of Wagenborg Offshore was unveiled on the Nieuwediepkade in the port of Den Helder. The Walk to Work Emergency Response and Rescue Vessel Kasteelborg was christened by Mrs. Marjan van Loon, CEO Shell Netherlands.Kasteelborg will serve as standby and support vessel in collaboration with the Kroonborg, which was commissioned almost three years ago, with maintenance of the unmanned platforms on the southern North Sea.Nederlandse Aardolie Maatschappij (NAM) and Shell UK Exploration & Production (Shell UK) have signed a 6-year agreement with Wagenborg Offshore for the deployment of this second 'Walk-to-Work Vessel' (W2W).The Kasteelborg is similar in size to Kroonborg, but her activities are different in nature.
Maritime Museum Rotterdam Launches Offshore Experience
Marjan van Loon, President-Director of Shell Netherlands, officially opened the Offshore Experience exhibition at the Maritime Museum in Rotterdam on Friday, 16 December. Over fifty leading companies in the shipping and offshore maritime sector are among those who have helped fund the first-ever exhibition in the Netherlands dedicated to the offshore sector. The offshore industry is one of the largest and most innovative sectors in Holland, and yet at the same time also one of the most unknown and unloved. The Offshore Experience is going to change that forever by providing a spectacular overview of the search for oil, gas, wind energy and renewables at sea.
Mammoet Switches to Cleaner Fuel in the Netherlands
Mammoet’s Dutch operations switch to Shell gas-to-liquids fuel: expected to lower emissions, noise levels and contribute to local air quality. Mammoet, a service provider specializing in engineered heavy lifting and transport, will use cleaner-burning Shell gas-to-liquids (GTL) fuel to power all its cranes and trucks in the Netherlands. The switch is expected to reduce emissions and help improve local air quality as well as lowering noise levels compared with conventional diesel.
Full Speed Ahead with Gas
Dutch-based Peters Shipyards introduces revolutionary Inland Shipping concept. Planned, developed and built by Dutch Peters Shipyards, located in Kampen, a unique inland tanker is now the world’s first river vessel driven by combustion engines consuming purely natural gas. In April, the innovative new vessel was handed over to its time charterer, Shell Netherlands, who will operate the “MTS Greenstream,” via Interstream Barging, between the Netherlands and Germany; primarily on the river Rhine.
Inland Waterway LNG Tanker Christened
The 'LNG Greenrhine'' has been christened by Mrs. Edwige Belliard, president of Central Commission for the Navigation of the Rhine (CCNR). The LNG Greenrhine is an electrically powered ship with diesel generators fuelled by LNG (Liquid Natural Gas). The use of LNG, compared to the traditional diesel oil, reduces emissions of CO2 and nitrogen oxides (NOx) by more than 25% and 80% respectively. CIMAC World Congress May 2013
The CIMAC World Congress on Combustion Engine Technology for Ship Propulsion, Power Generation and Rail Traction was held from May 13-16 in Shanghai. The Technical Program of this CIMAC Congress reflected a host of current hot topics, such as CO2 reduction or emissions. It consisted of 193 paper presentations, flanked by 68 poster presentations, from 20 countries – with strong participation from China. The huge amount of technical contributions was based on more than 400 abstracts which have been submitted to CIMAC in preparation of the congress, more than ever before.
