Bangladesh Puts to use China-built Crude Oil Offloading Facility

Saudi's Bahri Books 14 VLCCs

Saudi Arabian shipping company Bahri chartered more than a dozen very large crude carriers (VLCCs) in Persian Gulf in 24 hours.According to Reuters, the Saudi Arabia’s National Shipping firm has tentatively chartered as many as 14 super-tankers to ship crude oil to customers worldwide, as the Kingdom follows through with its promise to boost crude oil output.The spike in bookings by Bahri has helped to more than double the charter rates for VLCC amid this week’s ‘fixing frenzy’, shipping sources said. Unipec Books Tankers to Ship Crude from US to Asia

China's Unipec has provisionally booked two very large crude carriers (VLCC) to ship crude oil from U.S. Gulf coast to Asia, shipping fixtures showed on Tuesday.New Courage has been tentatively booked to load crude oil from U.S. Gulf coast on Sept. 22 while Awtad has been booked to load oil from U.S. Gulf coast over Sept. 23 to 26, according to the fixtures.The destination for both tankers has been provisionally set for Singapore, though this could potentially change.Sinopec, Unipec's parent company, did not immediately respond to an email query on the matter.Reuters reported in August that Unipec will resume purchases of U.S.

Korea Lines orders two VLCCs at Hyundai Heavy

South Korean shipping firm Korea Line Corporation (KLC) has placed an order for two new very large crude carriers(VLCC) at country's biggest yard, Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI), and the company will explore further collaborations with the country's shipbuilders. According to Yonhap news agency, the new VLCCs are expected to have been delivered by the  2020. The total amount of the agreement will amount at 185.6 billion won (US$173 million). The carriers, which can hold 300,000 tons of crude oil each, will be used in transporting petroleum for GS-Caltex Corp., the second-largest refiner in South Korea, the report said, quoting Korea Line. The company recently signed a long-term deal with GS-Caltex to ship crude oil.

VLCC's Used for Asia-Europe Diesel Liftings

Total charters VLCC to move diesel from Asia to Europe; Vitol ships diesel from Asia to Europe in Suezmax. At least two companies are planning to ship diesel in bigger-than-usual tankers from Asia to Europe in what traders said is a rare move as cheap oil drives up diesel supply and slowing economies dent demand. French oil major Total has provisionally chartered the very large crude carrier (VLCC) Alice on a six-month time charter to ship ultra-low sulphur diesel (ULSD) from Asia to Europe, traders and shipbrokers said. A VLCC can carry roughly 2 million barrels of oil. The ship will load diesel from Singapore or Malaysia to head to Europe and possibly ship crude oil back, one of the sources said.

SIU sues CBSA Over Permits to Foreign Sailors

The Seafarers’ International Union of Canada (SIU) has launched a lawsuit challenging repeated decisions by the Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA) to grant temporary work permits to foreign maritime workers crewing foreign ships operating in Canadian waters. Canadian law requires that ships carrying passengers or goods between Canadian ports (“cabotage”) may only use foreign workers if no qualified Canadian workers are available. “The Government of Canada has allowed foreign workers to take 2100 jobs from qualified Canadian maritime workers,” said SIU President Jim Given. “The Federal Government continues to misuse their authority to grant temporary work permits to foreign workers, while passing over Canadian sailors who are ready to work”.

Rosneft Ships First Oil From Chayvo Field

Rosneft commenced shipment of crude oil extracted at the Northern Tip of Chayvo license off the coast of Sakhalin, with the first tanker carrying Sokol-grade crude leaving port on November 21. The tanker was loaded at the Sokol single-point oil terminal located 5.7 km east of DeKastri Terminal, Khabarovsk Krai. DeKastri is the first terminal in Russia to ship crude oil year round amid the harsh environment of the Arctic. Another export batch is scheduled to ship before the year’s end. A fleet of purpose-built oil tankers will carry the hydrocarbons, each 100,000 tonnes in deadweight, escorted by icebreakers. The tankers are reinforced ice class, double hull type to safely transport the cargo even in heavy ice conditions.
