LR Alert on US Vessel Response Plans for Non-Tank Vessels
Applicability: Non-tank vessels of 400 gt or more of any flag, which are self-propelled, carrying oil of any kind as fuel, and bound for a port or place in the U.S. The U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) has published a Final Rule which took effect on 30 October, 2013, requiring owners or operators of non-tank vessels to submit oil spill response plans (known as Non-Tank Vessel Response Plans (NTVRPs)) by January 30, 2014. Non-tank vessels are vessels other than tank vessels. Tank vessels are generally defined as those constructed or adapted to carry oil in bulk as cargo or as oil cargo residue. Two New Ice-class LNG Carriers for Dynagas
Dynagas, the liquefied natural gas (LNG) shipping arm of the George Prokopiou shipping enterprises, has taken delivery of Arctic Aurora, the second of two ice-class membrane LNG tankers, during a ceremony at Hyundai Heavy Industry (HHI) Ulsan shipyard, Korea. The first, Yenisei River, was delivered yesterday. The 155,000 cbm (cubic meters) ships are fitted with GTT Mk III containment systems. SHI Delivers World’s Largerst Container Ship
The world’s largest container ship, Xin Los Angeles, has been delivered by Samsung Heavy Industries Co Ltd. (SHI) to Lloyd’s Register class. The ship is owned by China Shipping Container Lines (CSCL) and is operated by China International Shipmanagement Company Ltd., a joint venture between CSCL and V.Ships. The ship is 9,600 teu and is the first in a series of eight being built by SHI. The ship will trade from China to Europe initially and will eventually also trade to the US. Xin Los Angeles can carry a maximum of 18 rows of containers by eight tiers on the weather deck and 16 rows by 10 tiers in the holds. The principal dimensions of the ship are: 336.7 m length overall; 45.6 m beam; and 15.0 m draught. The ship is propelled by an MAN B&W 12K98MC-C Mk6, with a power of 68,520 kW.
LR Announces SSEE Winner
Compania Naviera Minera del Golfo SA de CV (Navimin) of Mexico has won the Standard Ship Emergency Exercise Award from Lloyd's Register (LR). The award was made to Mr. Javier Villegas-Serralta, general director of Navimin, at a presentation held in Mexico City. The presentation was made by John Stansfeld, LR's group regional manager for the Americas, on behalf of Dr. David Aldwinckle, manager of LR's Ship Emergency Response Service (SERS). The award is given by SERS in recognition of an outstanding commitment to staging Standard Ship Emergency Exercises (SSEEs). During 1998, Navimin held three exercises, involving different scenarios, on each of their chemical tankers.
