McCarthy Named CEO of Seaspan Shipyards

Canadian shipbuilding and ship repair company Seaspan Shipyards announced on Tuesday that John McCarthy has been named CEO, effective immediately.A member of Seaspan Shipyards' senior leadership team since 2018, McCarthy succeeds Mark Lamarre, who assumes a new role as president and CEO of The Washington Companies, following the planned retirement of previous president and CEO, Larry Simkins.McCarthy brings more than 36 years of experience in shipbuilding, repair and overhaul and as a senior leader at American and International shipyards.

Vard Marine Wins Contract to Design Chilean Navy Vessels

Zamakona Launches Siuana Arctica

Spanish shipbuilding and ship repair company Zamakona Yards reached a new milestone with the launching of the first of two new 69-meter reefer vessels to be built for the Greenlandic shipowner Royal Arctic Line A/S. Launching will take place February 4.The vessel will be named as Siuana Arctica and will replace the existing vessel Pajuttaat built in 1979. Conceptual design is being carried out by the Norwegian company Havyard Design & Solutions.The ship is designed to operate in northwest Greenland and have greater capacity than current ship. Seaspan Shipyards Starts Construction Canada’s Joint Support Ships

Canada’s shipbuilding and ship repair company Seaspan Shipyards (Seaspan), joined by representatives from industry and government,  celebrated the start of construction on the first Joint Support Ship (JSS) for the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN). The steel cutting ceremony held at Vancouver Shipyards is a significant milestone for Seaspan, the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS) and Canada’s shipbuilding industry. With the start of construction on JSS, Seaspan is leading the way in rebuilding Canada’s shipbuilding industry. In addition, start of construction ensures that Seaspan will see the continued growth of Vancouver Shipyards’ workforce while mitigating any possible downturn in production.

Hendry Marine CEO Aaron Hendry Passes Away

Aaron W. Hendry, husband, father and grandfather, as well as Florida business leader, died today at the age of 80. Aaron passed away peacefully in his home after a battle with pancreatic cancer. VARD Designed Antarctic Icebreaker for Chilean Navy

Vard Holdings Limited, a designer and builder of offshore and specialized vessels, announced that its subsidiary Vard Marine has secured a new contract for the design of one Antarctic icebreaking vessel for the Chilean Navy. The contract value is approximately €4 million. World Wide Metric, a global supplier specializing in the distribution of valves, flanges, piping systems and hydraulic components in JIS and DIN, and ANSI standards, is celebrating its 45th anniversary. In 1970, former ship captain Constantinos Contos, who immigrated to the United States from Greece in 1969, founded a ship repair company in Brooklyn, N.Y. Soon after, he began receiving an abundance of requests for metric valves and flanges from foreign vessels, but despite the demand, metric replacement parts weren’t easy to find stateside.

Private Ship Repair Moves Dry Dock Timelines

Due to a delay on a private ship repair at the Durban Dry Dock, TNPA has adjusted the project schedule for repairs on the facility’s 35 metre long, 900 ton outer caisson by 18 days.

A delay in private repairs to the hospital ship Africa Mercy has caused a two-and-a-half week adjustment of timelines for Transnet National Ports Authority’s R30 million repair project at the Prince Edward Graving Dry Dock in Durban. The facility was due to be nonoperational for two months over August and September. However private ship repair company, Dormac Marine and Engineering, discovered additional work was required on the Africa Mercy’s shaft during a routine repair and survey exercise at the TNPA-owned dry dock.

Steamship Drydocking Contract for UK Shipyard

Ship repair company A&P Falmouth, located in the south-west of England has won a major contract for repair and drydock modification work to the historic steamship 'SS Shieldhall', which is normally based in Southampton. SS Shieldhall is the largest steamship of her type in Europe, and is included in the National Historic Fleet, having been built and launched on the Clyde in 1955, to a classic pre-WW2 design. The vessel had a long and successful first career with Glasgow Corporation – year round, carrying treated sludge out to sea and, in the summer, taking passengers on pleasure trips.

Kearsarge Returns to NNSY

Following a back-to-basics approach in performing ship repairs, Norfolk Naval Shipyard (NNSY) returned another amphibious-class ship to the fleet within budget and ahead of schedule, as the result of a public-private ship repair partnership in the Hampton Roads area. The shipyard completed a planned maintenance availability (PMA) for the Wasp-class, amphibious assault ship USS Kearsarge (LHD 3) ten days ahead of schedule and within fixed price budget, according to Project Superintendent Bobby Watkins. "Our back-to-basics approach paid great dividends in making this PMA an overwhelming success," Watkins said. 400 Jobs on the Line

According to a March 12 report from Inquirer.net, about 400 workers of a ship repair company in Lapu-Lapu City are in danger of losing their jobs as the management decides to focus resources on shipbuilding. According to Inquirer.net, Keppel Cebu Shipyard Inc. president David Loh said in a memorandum to the workers that the company has to reduce its workforce due to continuing market decline. The Ship Repair and Coatings Division of Earl Industries is a prime contractor for nuclear aircraft carrier (CVN) multi-ship, multi-option (MSMO) contracts. MSMO contracts provide for maintenance, modernization and repair to all ships of a class in specific homeport areas. The company also provides maintenance and repair services to frigates and other classes of naval ships.
