Classification society ABS and shipbuilder Hanwha Ocean signed a strategic framework agreement to advance the digital transformation of shipbuilding.Under the agreement, ABS and Hanwha Ocean formerly known as Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co., Ltd., will work together conducting joint development projects aimed at examining digital technologies related to smart yards and smart ships with a focus on safety, cyber resilience, autonomous, remote-control and smart functions developed by Hanwha Ocean.

Samsung Heavy Industries Co., Ltd (SHI) received an Approval in Principle (AiP) for an LNG carrier design under Bureau Veritas’ (BV) Cyber Managed Prepared notation. The certificate was delivered to the Hyun Joe Kim, Vice President of SHI, by Christophe Capitant, Chief Country Executive of BV Korea, at a ceremony on SHI R&D Center in Daejeon, Republic of Korea.SHI has received the AiP for its SVESSEL smart ship solution, which focuses on complete digitalization of the ship and its applications.

South Korean shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) announced that it had secured orders for two 174,000-cbm LNG carriers from MISC Berhad (MISC), a global provider of energy related maritime solutions and services.The 174,000 cbm LNG carriers were ordered under a KRW 485.3 billion (USD 406.2 million) deal, according to an SHI stock exchange announcement. Arriva Danmark has extended the requirements of its contract with Damen Shipyards Group in order to account for longer ferry routes in the city of Copenhagen.
