ABS and Hanwha Ocean Partner on Digital Shipbuilding Technologies

Classification society ABS and shipbuilder Hanwha Ocean signed a strategic framework agreement to advance the digital transformation of shipbuilding.Under the agreement, ABS and Hanwha Ocean formerly known as Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co., Ltd., will work together conducting joint development projects aimed at examining digital technologies related to smart yards and smart ships with a focus on safety, cyber resilience, autonomous, remote-control and smart functions developed by Hanwha Ocean.

Samsung Heavy Industries Co., Ltd (SHI) received an Approval in Principle (AiP) for an LNG carrier design under Bureau Veritas’ (BV) Cyber Managed Prepared notation. The certificate was delivered to the Hyun Joe Kim, Vice President of SHI, by Christophe Capitant, Chief Country Executive of BV Korea, at a ceremony on SHI R&D Center in Daejeon, Republic of Korea.SHI has received the AiP for its SVESSEL smart ship solution, which focuses on complete digitalization of the ship and its applications.

Petronas Adds Three LNG Carrier Newbuilds

Malaysia's state oil firm Petroliam Nasional Bhd is expanding its global fleet of liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers with three newbuild 174,000 cubic meter capacity vessels, the company said on Thursday.The company, best known as Petronas, inked a time charter party (TCP) agreement with shipowner Hyundai LNG Shipping, which has signed shipbuilding contracts with South Korean shipbuilder Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) for the construction of the three vessels that are expected to be delivered from the second quarter of 2024 on a staggered basis.

Samsung Heavy Scores $209M Order for Two LNG-Fueled VLCCs

DNV GL Awards AIP for SHI Cyber Secure Notation

The international accredited registrar and classification society DNV GL has presented South Korean shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. (SHI) with an Approval in Principle (AIP) for the Cyber Secure (Advanced+) notation.According to DNV GL, this is the world’s first AIP for its Advanced+ addition to the Cyber Secure notation. SHI Wins Two LNGCs Orders from MISC

South Korean shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) announced that it had secured orders for two 174,000-cbm LNG carriers from MISC Berhad (MISC), a global provider of energy related maritime solutions and services.The 174,000 cbm LNG carriers were ordered under a KRW 485.3 billion (USD 406.2 million) deal, according to an SHI stock exchange announcement. Arriva Danmark has extended the requirements of its contract with Damen Shipyards Group in order to account for longer ferry routes in the city of Copenhagen. U.S. based classification society ABS said it has granted a Certificate of CyberSafety Compliance for South Korean shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries’ (SHI) Smart Ship Solution demonstrating adherence to the ABS Guide for Cybersecurity Implementation for the Marine and Offshore Industries and ISO 27000 series, IT Security Control Code of Practice. SHI’s Smart Ship Solution aims to improve vessel efficiencies using real time data from hull and equipment sensors in collaboration with land-based technical and fleet managers.
