Russian Navy Gets Admiral Makarov Frigate

Baltic Shipbuilding Plant “Yantar” (United Shipbuilding Corporation, Kaliningrad) has delivered the Admiral Makarov frigate, third ship of Project 11356, to Defence Ministry of the Russian Federation. According to the shipyard, the acceptance/delivery certificate has been signed today, 25 December 2017, by Eduard Yevimov, Yantar Director General, and Capt 1 rank  Aleksey Poteshkin, Chairman of State Acceptance Commission. Admiral Makarov was laid down in early 2012 in Kaliningrad and was launched in 2015 to commence sea trials. The vessel became the third Admiral Grigorovich-class frigate after Admiral Essen, which was commissioned in June.

Four Killed in Explosion at South Korean STX Shipyard

Four workers were killed Sunday in an explosion at an oil tanker being built in a South Korean shipyard, Reuters reported quoting authorities. Fire officials said the workers were painting the interior of the tanker at an STX Offshore & Shipbuilding plant in the southeastern city of Changwon and died almost instantly. The workers in their 30s to 50s were painting inside a 12-meter-deep oil tank at the time of the accident. The fire agency recovered the bodies of the three victims. The oil carrier with the capacity of 74,000 tons is reportedly scheduled to be delivered to a Greek shipping company in October. According to Yonhap, the authorities are looking into the cause of the explosion.

Yaroslavsky Rolls Out Lead Seagoing Tug

Yaroslavsky Shipbuilding Plant says it has launched the seagoing tug of project 23470. The vessel named Sergei Bulk is the lead tug in the series of five vessels ordered to the shipyard by RF Defence Ministry. The vessel designed by Baltsudoproekt bureau was launched on December 27, 2016. The tugboat is intended for towing of vessels, floating facilities and structures in ice-covered and ice-free water; assistance to vessels within port water area and mooring operations; escort operations in sea; extinguishing of fires on floating and shore-based facilities, extinguishing of fuel burning on water surface; refloating of ships and vessels. Yaroslavsky Shipbuilding Plant is situated in the central part of Russia, on the bank of the river Volga. It is an Open Joint Stock Company since 1993.

Keel Laid for Russia’s Next Generation Icebreaker

The world’s biggest nuclear-powered icebreaker keel laying ceremony took place of at the Baltic Shipyard on 26 May 2015. Heads of Atomfflot, the Baltic Shipyard and the RS Branch Office for Nuclear Vessels signed a Keel Laying Acceptance Report of the first serial nuclear-powered icebreaker, project 22220. Bookmark nuclear-powered icebreaker "Sibir" was timed to the anniversary of the Baltic plant, which on May 26 turned 159 years . In the presence of Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin, Director General of State Corporation "Rosatom" Sergei Kiriyenko, the president of USC Alexey Rakhmanov, the governor of the Murmansk region Marina Kovtun and other honorary guests of the event laid the first serial icebreaker project 22220, dubbed "Siberia".

MMK Boosts Steel Shipments to Shipbuilders

OJSC Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) supplied 78,000 metric tons of metal products to shipbuilders in 2014, which represents a 37.2% growth year-on-year. MMK supplies up to half of all metal products sold to the Russian shipbuilding industry. Key customers of MMK include companies that are part of such groups as United Shipbuilding Corporation, Oka Shipyard, and Red Barricades Shipbuilding Plant. MMK production of steel for the shipbuilding industry has been expanded following the commissioning of the thick plate Mill 5000 in 2009. The thick plate mill can produce steel used in production for the Russian naval fleet, tankers, modern ice-class vessels.

Russian Shipbuilders Ask for $100M More for Indian Frigates

According to a report from RioNovosti, Russian shipbuilding plant Yantar has asked Russia's state arms exporter, Rosoboronexport, for an additional $100m to complete construction of three frigates for the Indian Navy, Russian business daily Kommersant said Dec. 16. (Source: RioNovosti)

Yantar to Build Oceanographic vessel for RF DM

Yantar Shipyard in Kaliningrad started building an oceanographic vessel for the Russian Federation Defense Ministry (RF DM), according to a report on Itar-Tass. Reportedly designed by the Almaz Central Marine Design Bureau -- a leading Russian Naval Company designing fast speed missile and patrol ships and boats – the 5200-ton vessel will measure 108 x 17.2 m, and will be commissioned in mid-2013. According to the news agency report, Yantar Shipbuilders are currently building the Seliger research vessel of project 11982, planned to be commissioned in June 2011. The Baltic shipbuilding plant Yantar in Kaliningrad was founded on July 8, 1945. It is specialising in the building of small- and medium-tonnage civilian and military ships and vessels, as well as in conducting ship repairs.

Sredne-Nevsky, Aveva Signs Contract

Aveva (LSE:AVV), the leading supplier of engineering IT systems for the plant and marine industries announced the signing of a $1.3m contract with Sredne-Nevsky Shipbuilding Plant (SNSP), Russia. Aveva solutions were selected because they are able to coordinate and manage data so that project costs and time can be minimized. The shipyard is able to quickly produce design and production documentation that will reduce construction time and increase accuracy in both hull production and outfitting construction. Using Aveva solutions also cuts down construction costs by more effectively managing the pre-assembly production documentation for each step of the building process.

Azerbaijan Shipbuilding Plan

A memorandum on construction of a shipbuilding plant was signed by the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR), Azerbaijani Investment Company (AIC) and Korean company STX in Baku on 19 May, according to a report on http://capital.trendaz.com. The plant -- which reportedly is owned 65%, AIC – 10% and STX – 25%. -- will reportedly be built in Garadag region of Azerbaijan.The yard, which is intended to build ships for the Caspian Sea trade, is scheduled to be in operation by 2011. Amur Gets ExxonMobil Contract

ExxonMobil has awarded Amur Shipbuilding Plant a $140 million contract to refurbish the Orlan platform. Reuters reports that the Russian plant, Amur, will modernize the platform in order to start extraction at the Sakhalin oil offshore deposit in Russia’s far east. ExxonMobil operates the Sakhalin-1 project, where work on the platform is anticipated to begin in June.

Russian Plant Commissions Deep Probe Seismic Ship

A Russian shipbuilding plant in Komsomolsk-on-Amur has commissioned a deep probe seismic ship built on the order of the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC). The ship intended for oil and gas prospecting at the depth of around 4,000 meters was built within two years as stipulated in the Indian contract, officials of the Amur Shipbuilding Plant indicated. The giant ship -- 94 meters long and 19 meters wide -- has been built in accordance with the international standards, they said. The ship will be sent to the Maritime territory where it will be given a few finishing touches at a terminal constructing base. Norwegians to Build IMT Field Support Vessels in Russia

Norway's KS North Sea Rescue AS has chosen an IMT 955-N design for a series of six Field Support Vessels to be built at the Yaroslavsky Shipbuilding Plant, Russia. The vessels are a modified version of the IMT Marine Consultants IMT 955 design of which nine are currently building at Astilleros Zamakona, Spain, for Vroon Offshore. The Russian-built vessels will be operated by Stavanger-based Simon Møkster Shipping AS. The deal to choose a UK design to build at a Russian yard was brokered by Norwegian brokers Fearnleys, and the deal includes all equipment, which will be supplied through Russian firm VMF Shipping. The multi-role IMT 955-N vessels are 55.0 m LOA Field Support Vessels and will carry out logistics support offering cargo fuel…

Azerbaijan Caspian to Establish Shipbuilding Facility

Aydin Bashirov, the Chief of the Azerbaijan Shipping Company hold a meeting with the South Korean representatives on the issue of establishment of the new shipbuilding and shipyard company in the country, and the possibility of carrying over of the Baku International Sea Trade Port outside the City, the Press-Service of the Shipping Company told Trend today. The delegation consisting of 14 persons have arrived in Baku to take part in the negotiations. They have already got acquainted with the Shipbuilding Plant named after the Paris Commune located in the Baku Bay, and the Sea Port. Issues. The South Korean party will prepare feasibility study of the project. Then an international tender is planned to be held.

New Palmali Vessel to be Launched

On June 24 the final sixth vessel of Heydar Aliyev type built with the request of Palmali Company by Russian shipbuilding plant in Volgograd will be launched into the water, Trend reports with reference to the company. This vessel will take the name of Mir Jalal Pashayev. Dead-weight tonnage of the ship is 6,970 thousand tones and length – 139,6 meters, width – 16,5 m, height of board – 6 m, the part remaining in the water – 4,6 m. Samsung Uses DELMIA for Digital Shipbuilding Plant

Dassault Systèmes (DS) announced that the shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) has built a simulation-based digital shipyard using DELMIA digital manufacturing technology, enabling the company to successfully establish a real-time supply chain network for collaborative production. With DELMIA, SHI’s Korea-based Geoje Shipyard is able to simulate design and engineering processes and digitally manage its facilities, procedures, and engineering schedules by shipbuilding in a virtual environment. “In the future, Simulation-Based Manufacturing (SBM) will play a pivotal role in strengthening the competitiveness of manufacturing by applying IT technologies,” noted Hwang Gyu-Ok, general manager of the Information System Group for SHI.

Russia to Build Four Tankers

Russia is expected to build four vessels to deliver oil and gas under the Sakhalin II energy project being implemented on Russia's Far Eastern island, RIA Novosti reported. The shipyard based in St. Petersburg, Russia's second biggest city, will build two ice-breaking tankers, and a shipbuilding plant in Primorye Territory in the Far East two more vessels under a 15-year contract between Sakhalin Energy and a Russian-operating affiliate of A.P. Moller-Maersk group. Sakhalin Energy, a Dutch-British-Japanese venture that is developing two vast fields with estimated recoverable reserves of 150 million metric tons of oil and 500 billion cubic meters of gas on Sakhalin, is expected to receive six vessels from the group in 2007.

Vinashin to Build Vessels for Israel

The Vietnam Shipbuilding Industry Corp. (Vinashin) and its subsidiary, the Ha Long Shipbuilding Plant, signed Tuesday a $1b deal to build eight vessels to carry autos for Israel. Israeli Ray Car Carried Limited Company has ordered the deal. The vessels, designed by Italian Naval Progetti company, are measured 185.6m long, 32.26m wide, and 36.56m high each. The Ha Long plant plans to launch the first vessel by September 2008. Vinashin has inked a number of major contracts to build vessels for various customers of Japan, the Republic of Korea, Europe and America. Another Vinashin affiliate in the port city of Hai Phong won in March a $2 million contract to outfit five cruise ships owned by Raon Group of the Czech Republic…

Shipyard Accident Kills 22

At least 22 people were crushed to death when a huge, brand-new crane toppled over in a Shanghai shipyard, the latest in a string of deadly accidents that highlight China's woeful safety standards. Xinhua said 11 people were still pinned under the wreckage of the 600-ton gantry crane and there was little hope of getting them out alive. Three people were seriously injured and hospital doctors told Reuters their chances of survival were slim. Employees at the Hudong China Shipbuilding plant in the port city's Pudong district said the crane collapsed on a group of workers and engineers on Tuesday morning. With ribbons and flags still attached from a ceremony on Monday before the enormous crane was put into operation, it lay crumpled on its side amid rusty iron support pillars.
