Hanwha Launches New Affiliate Rounding Off Its Total Shipbuilding Solutions Capabilities

With the launch of Hanwha Engine, South Korea’s shipbuilder Hanwha has become fully equipped to provide total shipbuilding solutions, including engine production with in-house manufacturing and technology capabilities.Hanwha has officially launched its new affiliate, Hanwha Engine, after successfully acquiring HSD Engine, the world’s second-largest marine engine company in terms of market share.According to the company, it will leverage Hanwha Engine’s abundant experience in marine engine production and the synergy among Hanwha affiliates to develop and commercialize eco-friendly fuel engines…

CADMatch Maritime Day Set for April 16

In collaboration with Autodesk, SSI's dealer in the Benelux, CADMatch, has organized CADMatch Maritime Day for April 16, 2015 in Oosterhout, NB. The day’s theme will be "Engineering: the foundation for success."    According to the organizers, CADMatch Maritime Day aims to exhibit ways to achieve greater efficiency with strong engineering from a project’s beginning. Various guest speakers, including several clients, will recount experiences from the field. Speakers from SSI and Autodesk will also show how "Digital Shipbuilding Solutions" can help achieve success.

PTC & Sener Integrated Shipbuilding Solutions

PTC (Nasdaq:PMTC), The Product Development Company, and Sener announced plans to strengthen their alliance to deliver an integration between Sener’s FORAN system and PTC’s Windchill PLM software.  The integration will enable Sener’s shipbuilding customers to leverage Windchill’s enterprise PLM capabilities while managing FORAN CAD data within the same PLM platform ideally suited for complex, distributed, and large-scale product development. FORAN is Sener’s integrated CAD/CAM/CAE technology solution for the complete design of commercial and naval ships and offshore units, including forms definition, naval architecture calculations, hull structure, machinery, outfitting, electrical and accommodation design and manufacturing. Japanese Shipbuilders Sign Aveva Contracts

Aveva (LSE:AVV), supplier of engineering IT systems for the plant and marine industries, announced that several Japanese shipbuilders -- Namura Shipbuilding, Universal Shipbuilding Corporation, Shin Kurushima Dockyard, Sumitomo Heavy Industries Marine & Engineering and Imabari Shipbuilding Group -- have signed contracts worth over $2.5m to extend their use of Aveva marine solutions. The contracts were made in the first half of Aveva’s financial year ending 30 September 2008. Aveva marine solutions were first used in Japan by Kawasaki Shipbuilding Corporation in 1994. Kawasaki has since expanded the use of Aveva marine solutions to its commercial and naval yards. To date, there are more than twenty Japanese customers who actively subscribe to Aveva’s shipbuilding solutions.

CAD/CAM: Producing Better, More Cost Efficient Ships

The advent of software solutions has infiltrated nearly every sector of the maritime market - from propulsion performance monitoring packages to personnel. It arguably has had no greater impact, though, than in the design and construction of new vessels. CAD/CAM/CAE programs are invaluable assets to the designer, builder and operator of vessels of all sizes and dimensions. Not only do advanced programs allow for the creation of the an efficient and cost effective ship structure and outfitting, they provide for enhanced manufacturing practices and techniques, and increasingly help devise a life-cycle maintenance and care plan which can tack profitable years onto a vessel's life.

PTC Launches New CAD/CAM Shipbuilding Solution

Drawing on its experience with proven solutions and existing customers, PTC recognized that its industry solutions provided by Pro/ENGINEER could and should be leveraged to develop the next generation shipbuilding solution — a product the company will debut at SMM in Hamburg, Germany.

Sener Signs Foran Contract with Aker Yards

Aker Yards ASA has entered into a Contract with the Spanish company Sener Ingeniería y Sistemas S.A. for the implementation of FORAN System across the group's shipbuilding organization. The Contract was signed by Jørgen Berg (IT Vice President) on behalf of Aker Yards ASA, and by Luis Garcia (General Manager of the Marine Business Unit) on behalf of Sener. FORAN is already operating successfully at 7 sites of the group. Based on the experience using FORAN so far, Aker Yards has decided to extend the cooperation with Sener by making a FORAN Frame Contract for future investments into CAD/CAM shipbuilding solutions. Currently, Aker Yards owns more than 350 licenses of the main FORAN packages (Hull Structure and Outfitting).

Tianjin Standardizes on PTC Shipbuilding Solutions

PTC, the Product Development company, and Tianjin New Harbor Shipyard jointly announced that Tianjin New Harbor Shipyard has expanded its use of PTC Shipbuilding Solution, which includes CADDS5i to improve its design capabilities. With the expanded software implementation, Tianjin New Harbor Shipyard is standardizing on PTC Shipbuilding Solution as its manufacturing design platform. Tianjin New Harbor Shipyard believes that this decision will further accelerate its transformation into a modern international shipbuilding enterprise. The CADDS 5i solution enables users to refer to each other’s evolving designs and facilitate concurrent engineering in a fully digitized ship design and 3D modeling environment.

Yantai Raffles Shipyard Goes With PLM

IBM and Dassault Systèmes have signed a contract with Yantai Raffles Shipyard (YRS) for product development and data management software. YRS has acquired IBM’s Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) Shipbuilding Solutions with software developed by Dassault Systèmes in its aim to become one of the most efficient and low cost shipyards in the world.
