WFW Advises Star Bulk on Vessels Acquisition

Watson Farley & Williams (WFW), an international law firm based in London, has advised NASDAQ listed Star Bulk Carriers Corp on the acquisition of 11 dry bulk vessels from Delphin Shipping LLC in a shares and cash transaction.Under the terms of the acquisition, the vessels that were built by Jiangsu Hantong between 2012 and 2014 will be acquired for an aggregate purchase price of US$139.5m, payable in the form of US$80m in cash and 4.503 million common shares of Star Bulk.If concluded, the transaction would increase Star Bulk’s fleet to 120 vessels, a release said."This is the third such deal that WFW have assisted Star Bulk with in the last 18 months, previously advising them in 2018 on the acquisition of multiple vessels from both Augustea and E.R.

Eagle Bulk Shipping Avails Loan Secured by 21 Vessels

American shipowner Eagle Bulk Shipping  has announced that Eagle Bulk Ultraco, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Company, has closed on a new five-year senior secured facility  totaling USD 208.4 million, maturing in 2024. The global transporter of drybulk commodities said that the Facility is secured by 21 vessels, including the M/V Cape Town Eagle which was acquired earlier this month, and includes a term loan of USD 153.4 million and a revolving credit facility of USD 55 million.Gary Vogel, Eagle’s CEO, said: “We are very pleased that the Company continues to secure increasingly attractive debt financing and has increased its financial flexibility in the process.

Eagle Bulk Completes $265 Mln Refinancing

Eagle Bulk Shipping, through its wholly-owned subsidiaries Eagle Bulk Shipco and Eagle Shipping LLC, has entered into a series of refinancing transactions, including the repayment in full of Eagle Shipping’s outstanding first and second lien credit facilities, each dated as of March 30, 2016. Paris Kassidokosta-Latsis Rolls Out Ivy Shipping

Greek shipping heir Paris Kassidokostas-Latsis along with with two leading global investors formed a joint venture vehicle, Ivy Shipping LLC, with the primary purpose to invest in Supramax and Panamax dry bulk carriers. As a first investment move, Ivy Shipping proceeded to purchase four Supramax built in Japan. According to Deal News, the vessels expected to be delivered by the end of summer and managed by Marla Shipmanagement Ltd, the interests of Paris Kassidokostas-Latsis. Local media quoted Paris Kasidokostas-Latsis saying that he has decided to expand  hisshipbuilding business with the cooperation of very important, international, strategic investors. He said he is very optimistic about this cooperation and with great confidence he  looks forward to the achievement of the new goals.

Jawar Al Khaleej Takes Delivery of Two Vessels

Jawar Al Khaleej Shipping LLC (JAK), a provider of specialist services to the offshore oil and gas sector in the Arabian Gulf, has taken delivery of a Damen Fast Crew Supplier (FCS) 5009 and an ASD 3213 tug for operations at the Al Basra (ABOT) and Khor Al Amaya (KAAOT ) oil terminals. Between them, these facilities handle more than 90 percent of Iraq’s crude oil exports. The FCS 5009 is named the Jawar Abu Dhabi and the ASD 3213 is the Jawar Faw. A second ASD 3213, the Jawar Um Qasr, is due for delivery shortly.

Hamburg Süd Opens Dubai Office

Hamburg Süd has opened its first proprietary agency in the Middle East. On February 1 Hamburg Süd Shipping LLC commenced operations in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The company-owned agency coordinates Hamburg Süd’s business in the Persian Gulf and has taken over all the tasks and activities for commercial operations as well as container logistics from the long-standing local agency partner Inchcape Shipping Services LLC. Vessel and customs clearance in the Ports of Jebel Ali and Khor Fakkan will continue to be handled by Inchcape Shipping Services. Several of Hamburg Süd’s liner services connect the Middle East with the shipping company’s global network. One of the key commodity sectors in which Hamburg Süd is strong in the region is the transport of temperature-controlled cargo.

Globus Maritime Limited, a dry bulk shipping company, announced today that Dimitrios Stratikopoulos has resigned from its Board of Directors due to other recent pressing business commitments with the resignation taking effect immediately. The Board of Directors has appointed Ioannis Kazantzidis to the Board to replace  Stratikopoulos as an independent Class I, non-executive director effective today. Additionally and on the same day, Kazantzidis has been also appointed to the Company's Audit, Remuneration and Nomination Committees. Jawar Al Khaleej Orders Three Vessels

At this year’s Seatrade Maritime Middle East Exhibition taking place in Dubai, Jawar Al Khaleej Shipping LLC (JAK) signed a contract with Damen Shipyards Group for the supply of three vessels: one Fast Crew Supplier (FCS) 5009 and two ASD Tugs 3213. JAK is a provider of specialist services to the offshore oil and gas sector in the Gulf, delivering logistical support including oil terminal support services, towage and salvage, together with other integrated offshore solutions.

Frontline JV Creates Suezmax Vessel Fleet

Frontline Ltd. has announced the formation of Suezmax Chartering, a commercial joint venture with Diamond S. Shipping LLC and Euronav NV. The aim of the joint venture is to create a single point of contact for cargo owners to access a large fleet of 43 modern Suezmax vessels, traded operated on the spot market. Frontline will contribute 22 vessels to the joint venture, including 14 vessels on the water and 8 newbuildings as they are delivered. A larger fleet will provide more flexibility and more options for cargo owners and also reduce voyage related expenses. Suezmax Chartering will operate from the existing offices of Frontline, Diamond S and Euronav. Note: Suezmax is a crude tanker vessel carrying around 130,000 tonnes of crude. A larger fleet will provide more flexibility and more options for cargo owners and also reduce voyage related expenses by optimizing vessel selection based on proximity to cargoes, thereby reducing greenhouse gas emissions as a direct consequence of using less fuel for ballasting movements.

Star Bulk Carriers to Buy Oceanbulk

Star Bulk Carriers Corp said it would buy Oceanbulk Shipping LLC and Oceanbulk Carriers LLC in an all-stock deal to create the largest U.S.-listed dry bulk shipper. Star Bulk is issuing 54.104 million new shares to buy the Oceanbulk companies, valuing the deal at about $653 million based on Star Bulk's Friday close of $12.07. The deal comes as the global dry bulk shipping industry is poised to recover from a severe downturn, helped by steadying demand for iron ore and coal from China and India and the scrapping of older vessels.

Dubai's QE 2 Holdings Ltd. chairman, His Excellency Khamis Juma Buamim, sets out his company's vision of a new life for the veteran cruise liner –  as a hotel ship – in his speech to dignitories. Outlining the work that has been completed, the chairman provided details of the transfer of ownership of the vessel to a new entity called QE2 Shipping LLC, based out of & owned by Dubai & that all necessary registry documentation with the flag state on the ownership of the vessel had been completed.

Pacific-Gulf Marine To Operate Unique Vessel

Pacific-Gulf Marine has finalized an agreement with Patriot Shipping LLC to manage and operate the heavylift vessel, Industrial Challenger, under U.S. Flag. Built in 2000, the 8000 deadweight multi-purpose vessel has lifting capacity of 400 metric tons, a 16.5 knot service speed and is ideally suited for project & heavylift cargo. It is expected that the vessel will operate in the U.S. to South America trade while pursuing other opportunities to move both commercial and/or U.S. government cargoes from the U.S. to worldwide destinations. Licensed officers from the American Maritime Officers (AMO) and unlicensed personnel provided by the Seafarers International Union (SIU) will man the vessel.

Bender Awarded Containership Contract

Bender Shipbuilding and Repair Co., Inc., of Mobile, Alabama, has become the first U.S. shipyard to win a container ship contract in 10 years. The contract calls for Bender to build two vessels capable of carrying 367 45-ft. containers for California-based Santa Maria Shipping L.L.C. Bender and Santa Maria Shipping will sign the contract at a ceremony and press briefing.

The Center for Seafarers' Rights (CSR) of the Seamen's Church Institute of New York & New Jersey is again protesting the illegal recruiting practices of Al-Najat Marine Shipping LLC. Over the past week, CSR received several reports that the Al-Najat Marine Shipping LLC, a United Arab Emirates company, is offering to recruit Indian nationals for positions aboard cruise ships by contacting various employment agencies in India, including the OverSeas Comm. MarAd Approves Containership Sales

The Maritime Administration (MARAD) has given approval to Global Shipping LLC, of Cumberland, Maryland to sale of the containership EWA, official number 530140 to Sea Lion Marine LTD., a St Vincent and the Grenadines corporation, and the transfer of said vessel to Tulva registry and flag for purposes of disposal. The containership was built in 1972, by Skinner and Eddy Corporation in Seattle, Washington. MARAD's approval is required under section 9 of the Shipping Act, 1916, as amended.
