APC Lands Multiple Turkish Tanker Deals

Advanced Polymer Coatings (APC) confirmed a series of new contracts to apply its MarineLINE tank coating system to newbuild and existing tankers, including:A deal with Genka Shipbuilding will see MarineLINE applied to a newbuild 2,000-DWT oil and chemical tanker. Construction of the vessel at the Pendik Naval shipyard will get underway in January 2023.APC also signed a contract with Okan Ogullari Shipping to coat its latest new build 10,500-DWT tanker. World Maritime University Celebrates 2022 Graduation

On October 31, 2022, global maritime leaders of tomorrow graduated from the World Maritime University (WMU). The Class of 2022 has received the education required to contribute to maritime and ocean matters in their home countries and more broadly to the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs). Nor-Shipping 2022 Postponed

As coronavirus infection rates are again on the rise, Nor-Shipping has taken the decision to postpone its upcoming exhibition and event program. The Nor-Shipping management team is engaging with stakeholders to plot the path forward, and an announcement on the timing of the next Nor-Shipping is expected before the end of this week.ā€œIn a very fluid pandemic situation, with rapidly rising infection rates here in Norway and elsewhere, we believe the time has come to postpone our January program and try and create some clarity for our exhibitors and participants,ā€ Director Sidsel Norvik said.

Nor-Shipping: The Show Must Go on Despite Restrictions

The organizers of Nor-Shipping said the maritime trade show will be held in January as scheduled despite new coronavirus restrictions enacted in Norway.New, temporary national restrictions have reintroduced one meter distancing guidelines and face masks, where necessary, and limited numbers for social gatherings. Aegean Shipping Orders More Tankers from COSCO

Aegean Shipping Management announced Thursday it has exercised an option for a third Aframax tanker from Chinese shipbuilder COSCO Heavy Industry (Yangzhou) Co. Ltd. At the same time, a letter of intent (LOI) for a fourth vessel was signed.The initial deal for the series' first two vessels was signed in September 2020.The four ECO friendly tankers are scheduled to be delivered sequentially from June 2022 through March 2023.Piraeus-based Aegean Shipping, who owns only newbuilds from China, said the average age of its fleet will be 2.9 years upon completion of the latest newbuild series.

Nakilat Takes Over Management of FSRU Exquisite

Qatar-based energy shipping company Nakilat said Monday it had assumed the technical ship management and operations of the Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) Exquisite from Excelerate.The FSRU is jointly owned by Nakilat and Excelerate through a joint venture established in 2018. This is the first FSRU to be managed in-house by Nakilat, bringing the company's managed fleet to 27 vessels, comprising of 22 LNG, 4 LPG carriers, and 1 FSRU.The FSRU Exquisite has a cargo-carrying capacity of 150,900 cubic meters and a peak regasification rate of 690 million cubic feet per day.

SSE, CargoSmart Launch Carrier Reliability Index

Navig8 Adds LR2 Tanker

Navig8 Product 2020, an international shipping company,  has announced that it has taken delivery of the Navig8 Promise.Its the seventh 110,600 DWT scrubber-fitted LR2 tanker from New Times Shipbuilding.The Navig8 Promise will be entered into and operated in Navig8 Groupā€™s Alpha8 commercial pool.The crude oil tanker built in 2019 will sail under the flag of Marshall Islands.Navig8 is a fully integrated provider of shipping management services and the worldā€™s largest independent pool and commercial management company.

WMU, MPA Sign MoU

The World Maritime University (WMU) signed an enhanced Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), to cooperate on global maritime leadership training and capacity building for the international maritime community. The enhanced MoU was signed by Ms. Quah Ley Hoon, Chief Executive, MPA, and Dr. Doumbia-Henry, President of WMU.The agreement provides for cooperation between the two partners on the education of maritime leaders, leadership development programmes, as well as exchange of faculty members.Under the agreement, MPA Academy will continue to host week-long field studies in Singaporeā€¦

Eniram Helps French Ferry La Méridionale to Cut Fuel

French ferry operator La Méridionale and Eniram, a Wärtsilä have taken notable steps on digitalising La Méridionaleā€™s fleet with the help of the latest energy management technology."This partnership is in line with Wärtsiläā€™s Smart Marine vision, which through the extensive use of digitalisation, will enable the efficient use of resources with the least possible impact on the environment," said a press release.The ā€˜Pianaā€™, a ro-pax ferry that travels between Marseille and Corsica, was equipped with Eniram Trim and Speed solutions in April 2017. The evaluation period, which ended in summer 2018, resulted in annualized fuel savings of around 2%. These savings enable payback on the investment in just two years.

Korea to Establish Maritime Promotion Corporation

Korea Maritime Promotion Corporation (KMPC), a dedicated support organization for the shipping industry, will be established in Busan in June of next year with capital of 5 trillion won (US$4.5 billion), reported BusinessKorea. KMPC is set to offer financial and industrial policy support, in order to reform and upgrade the shipping industry in Korea, in response to the Hanjin Shipping bankruptcy. At Seoul meeting of the ministers of economic affairs, on 24 August, South Koreaā€™s Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries announced a plan to establish Korea Maritime Promotion Corporation, a support organization for the shipping industry, in Busan, in June 2018.

Liverpool diesel-engine sales and maintenance specialists James Troop & Co is celebrating its landmark 150th anniversary with a surge in new business and export sales. The family-run company based in Runcorn is one of Liverpoolā€™s longest-standing maritime and industrial businesses. It is reporting a 27pc sales hike on last yearā€™s figures between January to June. Korean Ferry Operator Relied Increasingly on Cargo

The operator of the South Korean ferry that capsized and sank this month with the loss of about 300 lives was apparently being squeezed by competition from budget airlines and had to increasingly rely on its cargo business. The Sewol ferry sank on a routine voyage south from the port of Incheon to the holiday island of Jeju on April 16. Investigators have not determined the cause of the accident but media has reported that the ship was overloaded with cargo and it may have been poorly stowed. The ship was carrying 476 passengers and crew and had a capacity for 956. The Korean Register of Shipping, which tested and certified the Sewol, stipulated that it should be loaded with no more than 1,070 tonnes of cargo and passengers combined. It is not clear how much cargo it was carrying.

MLC Demands Generate Rise in Defibrillator Orders

Martek Marine reported a significant increase in marine defibrillator sales in 2013, up 475% on 2012, with over four months of the year remaining. These sales include an order of more than 100 AEDs to Swireā€™s entire China Navigation fleet, as Swire beat the new Maritime Labour Conventionā€™s (MLC) August deadline to have a marine defibrillator on every vessel, with crew trained in its use. Other customers include Bernhard Schulte Management, Chemikalien Seatransport and Topaz Energy & Marine.

Filipino VP Calls for STCW Audit Assistance

"Germany and the EU cannot possibly have world-class efficient commercial ships manned by Filipinos today, and world-class efficient ships without Filipinos onboard tomorrow", said Vice President of the Philippines Jejomar Binay at a Maritime Round Table held at the Head Offices of Classification Society Germanischer Lloyd (GL) recently. CrewInspector Partners with Latvian Maritime Academy

CrewInspector signs a partnership agreement with Latvian Maritime Academy to provide lectures and training courses in crewing and crew management. Theoretical knowledge and practical tasks with crew management software enable students studying ports and shipping management bachelor program to understand the process of crew management from different angles.
