TTS Group announced the delivery of the first of four shipset of TTS deck equipment to COSCO Shanghai Shipyard. In April 2015, Shanghai Shipyard Co. Ltd., part of the China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), ordered various TTS deck equipment for four 28.000 DWT Multipurpose Heavy Lift Vessels. The first official hand over took place this week end. The vessels are part of the ongoing fleet extension program of China Ocean Shipping (Group) Company (COSCO). COSCO already operates eight identically constructed vessels (Da Type 3) with a maximum lifting capacity of 700t in tandem operation – the largest cranes in the fleet, all made by TTS NMF. Each ship is equipped with two heavy lift cranes of proven TTS NMF type DK II with SWL 350t and one TTS NMF type DK II SWL 100t lifting capacity.

Vessel operating costs are expected to rise by almost three per cent in both 2014 and 2015, according to a new survey by international accountant and shipping consultant Moore Stephens. The survey is based on responses from key players in the international shipping industry, predominantly shipowners and managers in Europe and Asia. Those responses revealed that vessel operating costs are expected to increase by 2.9 per cent in both 2014 and 2015, with crew wages and repairs & maintenance the cost categories likely to increase most significantly. Crew wages are expected to increase by 2.4 per cent in 2014 and by 2.6 per cent in 2015, with other crew costs thought likely to go up by 1.9 per cent and 2.1 per cent respectively for the years under review.

Dryad Maritime gives warning of increasing SE Asia piracy. The warning results from the release of their Q2 figures, containing data that shows the area experiences the highest number of maritime crime incidents in 2014 in comparison with other traditional piracy hot spots. The warning comes in the wake of the most recent hijack of a tanker, (MT Moresby 9), off the Anambas Islands on July 4. Pirates boarded the vessel, taking the crew hostage before stealing part of the 2,200-metric-ton cargo of Marine Gas Oil (MGO). The vessel location is still unknown.

The vessel had been scheduled to transit to Pontianak, Indonesia on 29th May, but was hijacked by pirates who damaged communications equipment and subsequently siphoned off the vessel’s fuel oil cargo.

Austal hosted an abbreviated U.S. Navy keel-laying ceremony for its second Littoral Combat Ship, Coronado (LCS 4). Fabrication has started on twelve of the twenty-eight modules that will make up this 416.6 ft trimaran design. Six of the twenty-eight modules are currently being outfitted with ships equipment such as gas turbines, generators, and propulsion equipment, and electrical, piping and ventilation systems. Three modules have been erected in their pre-launch position.

Leading the Navy and Marine Corps, Secretary Mabus will be responsible for an annual budget in excess of $150 billion and almost 900,000 people. The Secretary of the Navy is responsible for conducting all the affairs of the Department of the Navy, including recruiting, organizing, supplying, equipping, training, and mobilizing. Additionally, he oversees the construction, outfitting, and repair of naval ships, equipment and facilities, and is responsible for the formulation and implementation of policies and programs that are consistent with the national security policies and objectives established by the president and the secretary of defense.

Wilhelmsen Ships Service, a ships services network, has restructured its Polish operation and implemented an advanced level of connectivity to enable the company to offer its full capacity of products and services to the regional market place. The enhanced services include account sales to Polish owners, ship managers and charterers. In addition ships agency services are now available under the name of Wilhelmsen Ships Service in the ports of Szczecin and Gdansk, including their subports. Services include marine products and technical services, safety and refrigeration. WSS also now operates freight forwarding services in and out of these ports for Polish and foreign customers. International regulations for the prevention of pollution by sewage from ships enter into force on 27 September 2003 - nearly 30 years after their adoption. The regulations are contained in the optional Annex IV of the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships, 1973, as modified by the Protocol of 1978 relating thereto (MARPOL 73/78). Annex IV contains a set of regulations regarding discharge of sewage into the sea, ships' equipment and systems for the control of sewage discharge, provision of facilities at ports and terminals for the reception of sewage, and requirements for survey and certification. It includes a model International Sewage Pollution Prevention Certificate to be issued by national shipping administrations to ships under their jurisdiction.

Tidewater Inc. (NYSE:TDW) announced on March 28 that William C. O'Malley, the company's Chairman, President and CEO for most of the past eight years, has officially stepped down as Tidewater's CEO, handing over the reins of leadership to Dean E. Taylor. Taylor, 53, has served as President of Tidewater since October 2001 when O'Malley, 65, announced his impending retirement at the end of March 2002. Taylor's career with Tidewater started in 1978 where he served as an assistant manager in the company's Morgan City, La. office. With his Navy background and business savvy, Taylor gradually worked his way up through Tidewater's ranks to become an executive vice president in December of 2000.

Sea Star Line, LLC (Sea Star) announced that it has reached an agreement to acquire the assets of Navieras/NPR, Inc. (NPR) and of certain related entities. The agreement covers the purchase of ships, equipment, assignment of terminal leases, trade names and other assets related to NPR's Puerto Rico service. The purchase agreement, subject to U.S. Bankruptcy Court approval, will become effective at the end of April 2002. Sea Star's expanded service will provide the premium intermodal transportation system between the continental United States and Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The operation will combine Sea Star's versatile RoRo/LoLo service with Navieras' market-leading container service.

TTS Ships Equipment AB, a subsidiary of Norway’s TTS Group will deliver specially designed and built cargo access gear for installation aboard the Ultra Voyager cruise vessel, currently under construction at the Kvaerner Masa Yard in Finland. At about 160,000 grt, the new vessel will be the largest cruise vessel ever built. This is the first of the Ultra Voyager Class of cruise liners built by Kvaerner Masa, TTS Ships Equipment having supplied similar systems to all five of the previous Voyager Class, also built at the Finnish Shipyard. Under a turn-key contract, originally signed in January, TTS is building side shell doors, hatch covers and lifting platforms for the vessel, which was ordered by Royal Caribbean Cruise Line (RCCL) last year.

Revised regulations for the prevention of pollution of the oceans by sewage from ships have been adopted by IMO's Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC), which met for its 51st session from March 29 to April 2, 2004. The Committee also approved in principle the designation of three new Particularly Sensitive Sea Areas (PSSAs). Other important items on the agenda included follow-up to the adoption of the new Ballast Water Convention, air pollution and ship recycling. The revised MARPOL Annex IV containing regulations for the prevention of pollution by sewage from ships was formally adopted and is expected to enter into force on 1 August 2005.
