Austal USA announces the promotion of Craig Perciavalle to President, Austal USA. Mr. Perciavalle is currently serving as Senior Vice President of Operations. He joined Austal USA in 2007, serving in a number of senior management positions while overseeing Austal’s transition from a small, conventional commercial shipyard to an efficient, modular manufacturer of the Navy’s Littoral Combat Ship and Joint High Speed Vessel. Austal USA Interim President and Chief Financial Officer, Brian Leathers, was promoted to Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer.

John “Dugan” Shipway now Austal USA Outside Director. Austal USA is pleased to announce the appointment of Rear Admiral USN (Retired) John “Dugan” Shipway as an Outside Director on Austal USA’s Board of Directors. Rear Admiral Shipway retired in March 2009 as President of General Dynamics Bath Iron Works, a position that he held for 6 years. That same year, he was honored by the Navy League of the United States with the 2009 Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz award for exemplary leadership in the maritime defense industry. While President of Bath Iron Works, Rear Admiral Shipway oversaw management reforms that resulted in eliminating more than 1.5 million labor hours from the cost of building an Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer and improving labor relations.

Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) has been awarded a fixed price contract valued at $25m from the U.S. Navy for the preparation and completion of a dry dock continuous maintenance availability of USS Albany (SSN 753). The company's Shipbuilding sector in Newport News is the prime contractor and will provide advance planning, design, engineering, procurement, ship-checks, fabrication and preliminary shipyard work as well as all necessary alterations, repairs, maintenance, modernization, testing and routine work required to return the submarine to the fleet.

USS Los Angeles (SSN 688) will arrive at the Port of Los Angeles, Wednesday, Jan. 20, for a final visit that includes a decommissioning ceremony Jan. 23. USS Los Angeles departed Naval Station Pearl Harbor, Jan. 14, and is stopping in Los Angeles en route to Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for inactivation. The visit will include participation by the crew in numerous public events ongoing throughout the weekend. The Jan. 23 decommissioning ceremony will feature many former Los Angeles crewmembers, former Los Angeles Commanding Officer Rear Adm. (ret) John Shipway, Commodore of Submarine Squadron One Capt. Stan Robertson, Representative for the U.S. 46th District Congressman Dana Rohrabacher, and Los Angeles City Councilwoman Janice Hahn.

The American Shipbuilding Association (ASA) announced that Mr. John F. “Dugan” Shipway, President of Bath Iron Works, Bath, ME, has been elected Chairman of the Board of ASA for calendar years 2009 and 2010. Mr. Matthew J. Mulherin, Sector Vice President and General Manager of Newport News Shipbuilding, Newport News, VA, has been elected as the Association’s Vice Chairman. Dugan Shipway joined Electric Boat in July of 2000 as a Special Assistant to the President and was appointed President of Bath Iron Works on April 28, 2003. Prior to joining Electric Boat, he was a career Navy officer, retiring as a Rear Admiral after 35 years of service. He commanded a nuclear attack submarine for more than four years after previously serving on various other submarine platforms.

The General Dynamics Littoral Combat Ship Team (GD LCS Team) christened the LCS 2 Independence October 4, on the waters of the at the Austal USA shipyard. Present at the Christening Ceremony were over 1,000 guests and dignitaries. The Ship Sponsor was Doreen A. Scott, wife of the 10th Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy, Terry D. Scott. She was joined by her daughter, Maid of Honor, Lauren A. Scott, but her daughter, Matron of Honor Ensign Lindsay Fatz, USN, was out of the country on orders.

The long-awaited awarding of the contract to construct the new series of Littoral Combat Ships (LCS), a series that could total 60 ships worth $14 billion over 15 years, will have to wait just a little longer. However, the U.S. Navy in late May did pare the competition to two, with teams headed by General Dynamics - Bath Iron Works and Lockheed Martin Corporation - Maritime Systems & Sensors tapped to continue construction plans. LCS has generated fierce competition among the few remaining, large corporate entities that dominate the military markets today. Pasha Hawaii Transport Lines (PHTL), which is building a Jones Act Pure Car and Truck Carrier, at Halter Marine, reported that an important step in the creation of the ship - the keel laying - had taken place at Halter Marine. At a partners' meeting held October 25, PHTL announced that on September 21 Halter Marine, Inc., under international standards, completed fabrication of the required percentage of the total hull weight of PHTL's new-build vessel --enabling the official laying of the ship's keel. Vessel construction began in mid-June 2000. In early January, 2001, The Pasha Group-Van Ommeren Shipping Joint Venture will host a ceremonial celebration with Halter management and personnel to mark the setting of the first assembly on the shipway at Halter's yards in Pascagoula, Mississippi.

Mr. John F. “Dugan” Shipway, President of General Dynamics Bath Iron Works, Bath, ME, has been elected as the Association’s Vice Chairman. Mike Petters graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1982 with a bachelor's degree in physics, and he completed the MBA program at the College of William and Mary in 1993. In 1987, Mr. Petters joined Newport News Shipbuilding in the Los Angeles-class submarine construction division.

General Dynamics announced the appointment of John F. "Dugan" Shipway, 60, as president of Bath Iron Works, reporting to Michael W. Toner, executive vice president of General Dynamics Marine Systems group. Shipway succeeds Allan C. Cameron, 57, who has announced his retirement. Cameron had been president of Bath Iron Works since 1996. "Allan Cameron carried on the long shipbuilding tradition of 'Bath-built is best-built,'" said Nicholas D. Chabraja, General Dynamics chairman and CEO. "He recognized that great shipbuilders need modern tools. Through the development and construction of the new land-level facility, he brought Bath Iron Works into shipbuilding's 21st century," said Chabraja. "Bath Iron Works makes the best surface combatants in the world," said Cameron.

Michael Carthew, President, Chevron Texaco Shipping and Dean Taylor, President and CEO, Tidewater Marine were elected to the ABS Board of Directors, by the ABS Council, following yesterday's Annual Members Meeting of the classification society in New York.
