Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) announced executive-level personnel changes effective March 31 and April 1, 2019 and made nominations for Directors to be proposed to the 94th Ordinary General Meeting of Shareholders scheduled for June 27, 2019. MHI also announced the appointment of Seiji Izumisawa as President & Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective April 1, 2019, and Chief Strategy Officer (CSO), a role he holds currently. He succeeds Shunichi Miyanaga, who will take on the role of Chairman of the Board after six years as MHI's executive leader.

AIDA Cruises has taken delivery of the 12th vessel of its fleet, AIDAperla, from Japanese shipbuilder Mitshubishi Heavy Industries (MHI). The vessel was commissioned April 27 at a ceremony in Nagasaki, Japan in the presence of Michael Thamm, CEO Costa Group; Felix Eichhorn, President AIDA Cruises; Shunichi Miyanaga, President and CEO MHI; and Kazuaki Kimura, President and CEO, Industry & Infrastructure MHI. In the coming days AIDAperla will set sail for the Mediterranean where the vessel will be christened by model and presenter Lena Gercke on June 30, 2017, in Palma de Mallorca.

Today Mitsubishi Heavy Industries America, Inc. (MHIA), a Group company overseeing the business of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) in North America, commenced full-scale operations at its newly relocated Head Office in Houston, Texas, following a move from its previous base in New York. MHIA held a reception at Rice University today to mark the occasion in the presence of guests including The Honorable Greg Abbott, Governor of Texas. Present at the reception, MHI President & CEO Shunichi Miyanaga offered the following remarks: "I am delighted that we have been able to set up a new base in Houston to better serve our customers and oversee our Group operations in North America.

Today Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) launched operations at MHI Australia, Pty. Ltd. in Sydney. Creation of the new entity has two overriding ambitions: 1) to strengthen ties with Australia's governmental institutions and economic and industrial sectors, and 2) to serve as a base for developing relationships with Australia's academic bodies, including universities and research institutes. MHI Australia will help drive proactive sales support as well as broad information gathering to reinforce MHI's business structure in the Australia/Oceania region as well. Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) completed delivery of the AIDAprima, the first of two large cruise ships being built for AIDA Cruises at MHI's Nagasaki Shipyard & Machinery Works. A ceremony to mark the occasion was attended by Michael Thamm, CEO of the Costa Group, and Felix Eichhorn, President of AIDA Cruises, representing the new owner, and Shunichi Miyanaga, President and CEO, and Yoichi Kujirai, Senior Executive Vice President and President/CEO of Commercial Aviation & Transportation Systems, representing MHI.

Japan has urged Australia to award a contract to build its new $50-billion submarine fleet, reports SMH. Japan, which is offering a variant of its 4,000 ton Soryu submarine, is competing against rival bids from Germany and France for the contract. Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida has delivered a blunt message to Canberra that only its bid to build Australia's new $50 billion submarine fleet can provide the crucial "strategic" element. Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) chief executive Shunichi Miyanaga, the bid leader has warned of the “risk” in retro-fitting a nuclear submarine with a diesel engine as proposed by the French bid, and that scaling up a smaller design would create technical “challenges”, says a report in the Australian.

While Japan is confident it has proven itself the best contender to build Australia's new submarines, the French have moved to undermine Japan’s bid to build the navy’s new submarines. Representatives from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI), the co-builder of Japan's Soryu-class subs, toured ASC's shipyards in Adelaide on Tuesday. MHI chief executive Shunichi Miyanaga says Soryu-class submarines have proven capability, unlike the untested French and German designs. "We have the only proven submarine," he said. The French counterpart said only a “complete submarine power’’ such as France can provide the strategic partnership Australia needs for its future defence.

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd (MHI) and Siemens AG today announced the closing of their joint venture in the field of metallurgical industry. The new company is named Primetals Technologies, Limited and headquartered in London, UK. With this joint venture both partners are forming a globally operating complete provider for plants, products and services for the iron, steel and aluminum industry. Mitsubishi-Hitachi Metals Machinery, Inc. - an MHI consolidated group company with equity participation by Hitachi, Ltd. and IHI Corporation - holds a 51-percent and Siemens a 49-percent stake in the joint venture. With closing of the transaction, the joint venture will start operations with 9,000 employees coming from both partners.

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. President: Koichi Muto) today announced the naming ceremony of 'LNG Venus', a newbuilding liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier held at the Nagasaki Shipyard of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI; President: Shunichi Miyanaga; Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo). The vessel is under construction at MHI and will serve Osaka Gas Co., Ltd. As a large group of guests looked on, Osaka Gas President Ozaki named the vessel, and his wife cut the rope. The LNG Venus is co-owned by MOL and Osaka Gas’ wholly owned subsidiary, Osaka Gas International Transport Inc. (President: Shigeru Chikamoto; Headquarters: Osaka City, Osaka Prefecture). After its completion, it will sail under a charter contract with Osaka Gas.

Germany's Siemens and Japan's Mitsubishi Heavy Industries presented a joint offer to France's Alstom on Monday that included 7 billion euros ($9.5 billion) in cash, challenging a bid by General Electric. Under the deal, Siemens offered to buy Alstom's gas turbines business for 3.9 billion euros in cash, and MHI to buy stakes in Alstom power assets including hydroelectric power equipment and grid, to be held in separate joint ventures. MHI would inject 3.1 billion euros in cash into Alstom and offer to take a stake of up to 10 percent in the French firm from shareholder Bouygues. "Alstom would remain an independent energy and transport player with a strong brand," Siemens Chief Executive Joe Kaeser said. Alstom said it would review the proposal in the coming days.
