Kvaerner, Longview Power Reaches Settlement

Kvaerner North American Construction Inc. (a subsidiary of Kvaerner) has executed agreements today, with each of Longview Power, LLC, Siemens Energy Inc. and others regarding the disputes between them in both the arbitration proceedings concerning the Longview Project and the subsequent bankruptcy cases of Longview Power, LLC. Under the agreements, Kvaerner North American Construction Inc. will receive an aggregate amount of USD 48 million from various parties. In consideration, Kvaerner North American Construction Inc. will settle certain claims and release the Mechanics' Liens filed against the Longview power plant properties in Maidsville, West Virginia, and will waive all objections in the ongoing Longview Power, LLC bankruptcy proceedings.

Metro Handles Wind Turbine Blades in Galveston

Metro Ports provides stevedore and terminal handling services for Siemens Energy Inc.’s export wind turbine blade projects through the Port of Galveston. Siemens plans to export 246 53-meter blades between May and July 2013. These wind turbine blades, manufactured by Siemens in Fort Madison, Iowa, and destined for three wind projects in Brazil, are being transported via the BNSF Railway. Inherent in the movement of these longer blades is a complex transportation and logistics process that takes team work and proper coordination across multiple organizations to assure damage free results. For example, the Port of Galveston rehabilitated and modified two existing rail track spurs and added two rail track spurs in order to accommodate oversized wind project cargo.

Mr. Kranz led the effort to save Apollo 13, and is a New York Times bestselling author. His book, Failure Is Not An Option (2000), chronicles his work in Mission Control, from Project Mercury through Apollo 13 and beyond. Over 75 speakers will be presenting at this year's event (in Orlando, FL on March 18) filling over 15 unique industrial sessions. The presenters come from leading companies all over the world, and include but are not limited to the following: NASA Kennedy Space Center, Sikorsky Aircraft, TLG Aerospace, Rowan Williams Davies & Irwin Inc. (RWDI), Dupont Teijin Films U.K.

Siemens Plans US Wind Service Training Center

Siemens plans to build a new, state-of-the-art wind turbine service training facility in Orlando, Florida. The demand for skilled wind service technicians is increasing as more wind projects come online in the Americas, thereby requiring long-term service and maintenance. Siemens is designing this new 40,000-square-foot center, which will be located close to the global headquarters of Siemens’ Energy Service division in Orlando, to be among the most advanced wind training facilities in the world. Siemens’ initial investment will be approximately $7 million and the company plans to create 50 new full-time jobs and host approximately 2,400 trainees annually from the U.S. and the Americas.
