Wärtsilä Tapped to Power BC's RAL-designed Escort Tugs

Wärtsilä was tapped to supply the main engines and liquefied natural gas (LNG) fuel gas supply systems for two new LNG-fueled escort tugs being built for Canada’s HaiSea Marine, a joint venture between the Haisla Nation and Seaspan Marine Transportation. Designed by Robert Allan Ltd., the vessels are under construction at Sanmar Shipyards in Turkey. They are expected to be two of the most environmentally advanced escort tugs operating in the coastal waters of British Columbia in Canada.

North America is increasingly adopting energy storage systems (ESS) to use in combination with combustion engines or as the sole energy carrier in fully electric-powered systems.We clearly see a transition from ‘consideration’ to ‘execution’ of hybrid and all-electric maritime projects. Stakeholders want to explore how to make vessels more energy efficient and less polluting. Corvus Energy has deployed over half of the ESSs aboard vessels globally, totaling over 300 megawatt hours (MWh).In North America, Corvus has deployed 24 MWh of energy storage capacity, and there are 13 vessels under U.S.

EIVA System Leads the Way for A2SEA Jack-ups

This October, the Danish offshore engineering specialist EIVA came one Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) closer to fulfilling the delivery of a complete jack-up positioning system solution for A2SEA. The system will be installed on a vessel designed to operate under demanding conditions and is part of a $155 million contract. EIVA has successfully completed the FAT of the second of two complete navigation and leg penetration/barge displacement monitoring system solutions to be delivered to A2SEA, an installation and service provider for offshore wind farms.

Konecranes Win Repeat CSX RTG & Reach Stacker Orders

Konecranes has received a repeat RTG order from transportation supplier CSX Intermodal Terminals in the US, comprising 4 Konecranes RTG's with an option for the supply of one more. Konecranes say that this is the second RTG delivery to CSX Intermodal Terminals as the previous order for three RTGs was placed in June last year. The recently ordered cranes will be delivered to two facilities operated by CSX Intermodal Terminals: three RTGs will be installed in Valleyfield, Canada, and one RTG in Chicago. All four cranes will be delivered before October 2014.

They pushed boundaries, raised the stakes and in some instances opened our minds to the possibilities. They were subsea visionaries. Today, those boundaries continue to be pushed, and undersea technology, now more than ever, is reaching new heights.

Wärtsilä Contracted by Vyborg Shipyard

Wärtsilä was contracted to supply integrated power and automation systems for two Russian icebreakers. Wärtsilä won the contract to supply integrated power and automation systems for two new icebreakers being built for a Russian state-owned enterprise by Vyborg Shipyard JSC, a long-time partner of Wärtsilä. The contract was signed in October 2012. The vessels, scheduled to be delivered in 2015, will operate mainly in the Baltic Sea and in Arctic waters. Wärtsilä's strong track record in supplying reliable and technically sound solutions for icebreakers, and other vessels operating in arctic conditions, was cited as being a key factor in the award of this contract. There is an option pending to supply similar equipment for a third icebreaker within this same project.

Cavotec Wins Netherlands, Malaysia, Terminal Equipment Contracts

Cavotec wins two large orders for electrical power and spreader cable reels for ship-to-shore (STS) container cranes. These orders follow a recent announcement that the Group is to supply similar equipment to the Port of Colombo in Sri Lanka. The first of the two new orders is from ZPMC, the world’s largest port equipment manufacturer, for power and spreader reels for 14 STS cranes for the Rotterdam World Gateway (RWG) terminal in The Netherlands. RWG is a major port development that will offer a 1,150-metre deep-sea quay, and annual handling capacity of some 2.35 million TEUs. The terminal is scheduled to enter service in the second half of 2014.

PPG Industries’ (NYSE:PPG) protective and marine coatings business (PMC) has signed a global distribution agreement with Hi-Temp Coatings Technology Co. for select HI-TEMP(R) branded products. Aberdeen Company Opens Lifeboat Training Center in Australia

An Aberdeen-based company is behind the first freefall lifeboat-training centre to open for business in Australia. Survival Craft Inspectorate Ltd (Survival Craft) has collaborated with Australia’s Industrial Foundation for Accident Prevention (IFAP) to establish the new facility in Fremantle, which was formally opened by Western Australia premier Colin Barnett. Mariner Delivers ABS Classed Ocean-Going Tug

Mariner, LLC has just delivered a new 88-ft. fully ABS classed ocean-going tug. This is the second 88-ft. tugboat built for Smith Marine Towing, Similar equipment to the first vessel but the owner decided to increase horsepower with this vessel with Caterpillar 3512’s rated 1500 hp each. Pushing 4 blade Rolls-Royce stainless propellers through Kort nozzles this vessel has a calculated bollard pull of 45 tons. Lights gensets and the Markey double drum winch is powered by a John Deere engine.

Northrop Grumman To Supply Radar Systems For New U.S. Submarines

Northrop Grumman Corporation's Sperry Marine unit has been awarded a contract to supply new-generation radar systems for two new Virginia-class attack submarines. The new radar systems will enhance navigational safety and efficiency by providing improved situational awareness for the watch team. The contract, valued at up to $9.5 million, was awarded by the Naval Sea Systems Command. Sperry Marine will supply new AN/BPS-16(V)4 radar systems for the USS Hawaii (SSN-776) and USS North Carolina (SSN-777), the third and fourth Virginia-class submarines, which are being built at General Dynamics Electric Boat and Northrop Grumman Newport News.

Aker Kvaerner Completes Offshore SRU

Aker Kvaerner has completed its two first offshore Sulphate Removal Units (SRU) commissioning in Brazil. The work has been executed by the Aker Kvaerner subsidiary Aker Kvaerner Process Systems , who is a major supplier of water injection and SRU including services, successfully completed the SRU commissioning on Petrobras FPSO P50 with a capacity of 220,000 BPD of low sulphate water at the end of April 2007. This unit is the first delivered by Aker Kvaerner Process Systems to the Brazilian market. In parallel, Aker Kvaerner Process Systems completed the commissioning of the second SRU supplied to the FPSO MV14 (FPSO Cidade do Rio de Janeiro) operated by MODEC, with a capacity of 120,000 BPD of low sulphate water. Performance guarantee testing was approved by the client.

Alstom Diesel Electric Solution Selected by Otto Candies

Alstom won contract to supply electrical systems for a vessel being built for Otto Candies by the de Hoop shipyard in the Netherlands. The order includes a simplex dynamic positioning (DP) system from Altsom's 'A' series, plus manual thrusters controls and an independent joystick, for the NB400 offshore support vessel for Otto Candies, which is to be built at the Dutch shipyard. This DP order comes on the back of an earlier contract for the same vessel, to supply variable speed drives from Alstom's MV3000 liquid cooled range, plus transformers and motors for the two main 900kW azimuth thrusters. Two of Otto Candies' diving support vessels built by de Hoop - Caballo de Mar and Caballo de Trabajo - are now in service…
