Rodriguez Appointed Interim Director of MITAGS

The Maritime Institute of Technology and Graduate Studies (MITAGS) announced it has appointed Mike Rodriguez as interim director."I am pleased that Mike Rodriguez has agreed to take on the day-to-day administration of MITAGS' academic programs and courses as we begin the process of bringing onboard a new director,” said Eric Friend, MITAGS executive director. “Mike brings a wide range of experience and skills to our crew as we move our organization forward.”“I have been fortunate throughout my career to work with great people in education, labor, government and the military.

Simwave Welcomes Lopes

Cinthya Lopes has joined Simwave, the maritime simulation center in Rotterdam, as simulator operator. Prior to joining Simwave she worked in a variety of roles in the field of maritime training at the Brazilian Navy and Kongsberg. After finishing her studies in her home country of Brazil at the Merchant Marine Academy, Lopes completed her Post Graduate Program in Conference Interpretation at PUC Rio. Lopes started her career as a Navigation Officer at Norsul Shipping Company.

New Simulator Operators Training Course

eMaritime group have written a new five-day Simulator Operators Training Course (SOTC) and will launch it with a free one-off session from June 19-23, 2017 at eMaritime Group HQ, Whiteley, Hampshire. The SOTC course has been written to give those who wish to teach on a maritime simulator the necessary skills, teaching techniques and aids within a standard bridge simulator environment. The course is generic to simulator training in general and so can be applied to any make or model of simulator.

VSTEP Delivers FMB Simulator to Danaos

Danaos Corporation purchased a NAUTIS DNV Class A FMB Simulator and Instructor Station for training of its fleet members. The simulator will be delivered and installed by VSTEP at Danaos Shipping Co Ltd. Headquarters in Piraeus, Greece. The simulator purchased by Danaos Corporation included a NAUTIS DNV Class A FMB simulator with 240° horizontal field of view and an Instructor Station. It will be used to train navigation and maneuvering with the container vessels of the Danaos fleet.

San Jacinto College to Build Maritime Training Center

As San Jacinto College prepares to break ground to build the region's newest maritime training facility, some of the industry's most sought after training technology has arrived and is awaiting its new home. The college recently received three interactive, full-mission, ship bridge simulators, thanks to a collaborative agreement with the Houston Pilots. They will be moved to the College's 45,000-square-foot Maritime Technology and Training Center once it opens, projected for mid 2015.

Starlight Marine’s New Training Program

Starlight Marine Services has implemented a successful training program in the Tractor Tug Simulator at the California Maritime Academy. Since January, California Maritime Academy and Starlight Marine Services have joined forces and worked hard to develop a Tractor Tug Simulator Program using their newly constructed Simulator Center. It has been the goal of Starlight Marine Services to develop a Simulation Program that would encompass Crisis Management, Bridge Resource Management…
