Kongsberg to Deliver Simulator Suite for South Metropolitan TAFE

Kongsberg Digital (KDI) announced it has won a tender to supply a range of maritime simulator solutions for the South Metropolitan TAFE (Technical and Further Education) institute in Fremantle, Western Australia. Funded through the Department of Training and Workforce Development, this contract was awarded to KDI through an open and competitive process.The new contract commits KDI to the delivery, installation and commissioning of a complete maritime simulator suite of hardware and software technology, replacing SM TAFE’s current maritime simulator systems.

DNV Certifies SimFlex Cloud Simulator Platform

DNV has certified Force Technology’s SimFlex Cloud navigation simulator platform according to DNV’s ST-0033 Maritime Simulator Systems Class D standard requirements, for the approval of simulators used for mandatory simulator-based training or as a means to demonstrate competence. DNV requires that all simulators are DNV certified when used as tools for training and examination in accordance with STCW Regulations I/12, in order to issue a DNV SeaSkill Learning Program Certificate to training providers.SimFlex Cloud is the latest development from Denmark's Force Technology.

K-Sim Navigation, Cargo and Engine become first cloud-based solutions to gain new DNV class D certificationKongsberg Digital (KDI) said that its  K-Sim Engine, K-Sim Cargo and K-Sim Navigation simulator training solutions will be the first to attain certification according to the new DNV class D standard.The introduction of class D by the DNV represents the latest revision of DNV’s ST-0033 Maritime Simulator Systems standard, which has been brought in to certify compliant cloud-based solutions which possess all the functionality for remote learning programs.

Wärtsilä Wins Order for LNG Bunkering Simulator

Finnish technology group Wärtsilä will supply an LNG bunkering vessel simulator to Kasi Group (Malaysia), a leading provider of integrated marine solutions. The simulator will be used to provide hands-on training to those who will be operating LNG bunkering services.Wärtsilä is the first company capable of offering such a simulator. The order with Wärtsilä was placed in July.“As the global demand for LNG fuel for marine applications increases, the number of LNG bunkering vessels serving this demand is also increasing. To achieve best operating practices, safety and efficiency, first-rate crew training is essential. The Wärtsilä simulator enables this,” says Captain Bo Caspersen, General Manager, Kasi Group.

Kongsberg Simulators Train Korean Students

Two DNV GL Approvals for GTT Training Software

GTT Training, a GTT subsidiary dedicated to training liquefied natural gas (LNG) professionals and to the development of associated simulation tools, has obtained two approvals for G-Sim training software from DNVGL in accordance with their standard for Maritime Simulator Systems. Kongsberg, DNV GL Partner to Reduce Training Costs

Kongsberg Maritime has entered a partnership with class society DNV GL to issue Product Certificates for Maritime Simulator Systems required by maritime training providers in order to meet flag state requirements under STCW regulation I/12. The partnership enables KONGSBERG to support training providers with an expanded scope of supply with support for mandatory requirements, whilst enabling DNV GL to reduce the overall cost of its certification services for training centers.

AMC Extends Simulator Contract with Kongsberg

The Australian Maritime College (AMC) has opted to extend its Long Term Simulator Support Program (LTSSP) with Kongsberg Maritime for a further five years. Avante Expands VSTEP Simulator

Following the installation of a VSTEP desktop trainer classroom last year, the Avante Escuela de la Marina Mercante in Colombia has now purchased a Class A Full Mission Bridge Simulator to further expand its simulator training capacity. The follow-up order for an additional VSTEP NAUTIS Class A Full Mission Bridge simulator was placed following the delivery of a desktop trainer classroom at the Avante Maritime School and the overwhelmingly positive feedback by students and instructors about the ease of use and high quality training possibilities of these desktop trainers.

Bulgarian Naval Academy Installs VSTEP Simulators

The Nikola Vaptsarov Naval Academy in Varna purchased a 360° Class A Full Mission Bridge simulator and an Incident Management Simulator for training of its Naval and Merchant marine students. VSTEP Wins Mexican Navy Simulator Contract

The Mexican Navy selected VSTEP to supply a Class A NAUTIS Full Mission Bridge (FMB) Simulator and 24 NAUTIS desktop trainer stations for the Naval Academy in Veracruz. The simulators will be installed at the new simulator training wing of the Heroica Escuela Naval Militar set to open in Q4 2014. The Heroica Escuela Naval Militar is the school where future officers are trained for the General Corps of the Mexican Navy. In line with the expansion of the school’s training facilities, a new simulator wing is currently under construction.

VSTEP to Install Simulators for FIDENA Schools

VSTEP won a contract to install FMB and Tug simulators at all three FIDENA Maritime Schools in Mexico. The contract was won by VSTEP and its Mexican partner Edutelsa through an official competitive tender procedure and enables FIDENA to replace its old simulator technology with DNV certified NAUTIS simulators. FIDENA is the educational institution in charge of formal and comprehensive education of all seafarers in Mexico. It is the only institution in Mexico that offers higher level study programs in the maritime field and has wide international recognition. FIDENA has three nautical schools located in Mazatlan, Tampico and Veracruz and its Headquarters in Mexico City.

International oil services group Aker Solutions is about to open North America's most advanced drilling equipment simulator in Houston, Texas. The simulator will be available to rig operators with the objective of making offshore drilling operations safer and more cost effective. Aker Solutions is investing USD 2.5 million in the new state-of-the-art drilling equipment simulator, which will be available 24/7 for North American based rig operators and oil companies.
