Wärtsilä to Supply Simulator for Inland Shipping Training

The technology group Wärtsilä said it has been contracted by the City of Duisburg, Germany, to provide the latest in simulator technology for inland waterway navigation. The simulator will consist of seven full mission bridges in two locations within Duisburg; six at the Schiffer-Berufskolleg Rhein vocational college, and one at the DST Development Centre for Ship Technology and Transport Systems.The technology will enable inter-connectivity with other simulators, a universal hardware interface for future developments, and can be used for R&D purposes, Wärtsilä said.

eMARINE Global Wins ROK Navy Gig

The provider of information and communications technology (ICT) for the maritime industry eMARINE Global  signed a contract with the Republic of Korea Navy for the maintenance of its Anti-Submarine Warfare Team Trainer (ASWTT) at the Jin-Hae Naval Base.The contract is valued at an estimated 920 million won (US$0.76 million), said the Maritime ICT Provider based in South Korea which also have operations in the US.eMARINE has maintained the ASWTT virtual reality simulator, used to simulate battles between warships and submarines, since 2017. The simulator technology was developed by Sindel, an Italian technology company.“eMARINE in an advantageous position to secure work on the second ASWTT installation planned for the Dong-Hae Naval Base,” stated Ung Gyu Kim, Chairman and CEO.

Simwave Maritime Center of Excellence Opens

Simwave B.V. and Kongsberg Digital have completed the Site Acceptance Test (SAT) of one of the largest, most advanced maritime simulation suites ever delivered. The SAT, which took place January 19, means that the new Simwave Maritime Center of Excellence in Barendrecht, Rotterdam is now fully operational. As the sole simulation technology partner in the development of the unique Simwave facility, Kongsberg Digital delivered the full scope of work in accordance with the contract awarded in April 2017, which represented one of its most extensive deliveries to date.

Kongsberg to support RAN Bridge Simulator Expansion

The Royal Australian Navy (RAN) is expanding its maritime simulator facility at HMAS Watson, Sydney with the addition of new KONGSBERG ship-handling and navigation simulators and the integration of a new visual display system for its existing bridge simulator. The expansion has been established under the current support contract between KONGSBERG and RAN, in order to provide capacity to meet current and increasing demands for training. Kongsberg Digital, the new KONGSBERG Group division dedicated to delivering next generation software and digital solutions, including maritime simulators, will deliver a new stand-alone Full Mission ship’s bridge simulator, and a Part Mission bridge simulator based on its established and proven K-Sim Polaris simulator platform.

Indonesian Center Installs Kongsberg Simulators

Kongsberg Maritime has completed the delivery and installation of a suite of new bridge simulators for Indonesia’s Ministry of Transportation. The new simulators at the Ministry of Transportation’s Maritime Training Centre, located at its headquarters in Jakarta, will be used for the assessment of Indonesian seafarers applying for seagoing certification, for local and international operations. KONGSBERG simulators will support the Ministry of Transportation to significantly reduce the time taken and the tools required to assess Indonesian seafarers. Aalesund University College has become one of the first Kongsberg Maritime simulator users to migrate to the new simulator technology platform, K-Sim Navigation. Ocean Rig UDW Inc. has chosen Kongsberg Maritime to supply an extensive offshore and navigation simulator package for a brand new training center. With a sophisticated integrated simulator suite, enabling specific operations and vessel team training, Ocean Rig’s new facility, is shaping up to become one of the world’s most advanced offshore training centers, Kongsberg Maritime said. VSTEP to Install Simulators for FIDENA Schools

VSTEP won a contract to install FMB and Tug simulators at all three FIDENA Maritime Schools in Mexico. The contract was won by VSTEP and its Mexican partner Edutelsa through an official competitive tender procedure and enables FIDENA to replace its old simulator technology with DNV certified NAUTIS simulators. FIDENA is the educational institution in charge of formal and comprehensive education of all seafarers in Mexico. It is the only institution in Mexico that offers higher level study programs in the maritime field and has wide international recognition. FIDENA has three nautical schools located in Mazatlan, Tampico and Veracruz and its Headquarters in Mexico City.

Toledo Maritime Academy Hosts Admiral’s Ball Weekend

The Maritime Academy of Toledo Foundation wrapped up a successful Admiral’s Ball Weekend on Saturday, April 12, with the fourth Annual Admiral’s Ball and Charity Auction. More than 130 people attended the event which brought in $22,000 for the educational needs for cadets at the school. The theme for this year’s event was “Chart Their Course for Success With Us”. Kongsberg to Overhaul Seamen’s Church Simulators

SCI begins a massive rebuild of its Paducah, Ky. simulators used to train mariners for safety on the water. The Seamen’s Church Institute (SCI) has signed a contract with Kongsberg Maritime for a complete overhaul of important maritime simulator technology at its Center for Maritime Education campus in Paducah, Ky. Installation begins in August to replace existing wheelhouse architecture with entirely new mechanisms and navigation tools that more closely mirror contemporary equipment and construction of modern vessels. A new Offshore Simulator Center (OSC) is being finalized  in Aalesund, Norway to provide advanced training in offshore ship operations. The new facilities are located in a 'Norwegian Competence Center building' next to the Aalesund University College. Dynamic Positioning in Ice Research Project Gets Green Light

Kongsberg Maritime DP and simulation systems provide foundation for improving ice operations. The final piece of a CAD $8.5 million research project to improve DP operations in ice fell into place on May 23, 2012 when the Government of Canada announced a contribution of $3.2 million to the project from the Atlantic Innovation Fund, administered by the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency. Led by long-time Kongsberg Maritime simulator customer CMS – the Centre for Marine Simulation (Fisheries and Marine Institute of Memorial University), the five-year research project aims to improve the safety and efficiency of oil and gas operations in ice environments by improving dynamic positioning (DP) system technologies for operations in ice.

Aker Solutions ASA: Drilling in Houston

International oil services group Aker Solutions is about to open North America's most advanced drilling equipment simulator in Houston, Texas. The simulator will be available to rig operators with the objective of making offshore drilling operations safer and more cost effective. Aker Solutions is investing USD 2.5 million in the new state-of-the-art drilling equipment simulator, which will be available 24/7 for North American based rig operators and oil companies. It will double the capacity of the current training centre located in Katy near Houston.
