2023 a Record Setting Year for Singapore

Chee Hong Tat, Singapore’s Acting Minister for Transport, announced a record year in 2023 at a Singapore Maritime Foundation New Year Conversations event.The annual vessel arrival tonnage in the Port of Singapore crossed three billion gross tonnage (GT) for the first time, increasing by 9.4% over 2022 and setting a high of 3.09 billion GT in 2023. Singapore Announces Maritime Scholarship Awards

At an award ceremony in Singapore this week, 60 MaritimeONE Scholarships and seven Tripartite Maritime Scholarships (TMSS) were presented, sponsored by 34 partners from industry, foundations, and unions.The number surpassed last year’s award of 54 scholarships by 27 partners. More companies have come onboard to support MaritimeONE Scholarships in recent years, reflecting the focus on talent development by Maritime Singapore. ABS to Support Industrial-Grade, Cyber-Physical Platform for Shipboard OT

ABS has been announced as the industry collaborator to build the Maritime Testbed of Shipboard Operational Technology (MariOT) Systems. The project is led by iTrust, Center for Research in Cyber Security at the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD), in collaboration with ABS and Singapore Polytechnic’s Centre of Excellence in Maritime Safety (CEMS).The MariOT will support a host of cybersecurity activities to meet the challenges in the maritime industry’s push towards digitalization. MariOT will be the world's first industrial-grade, cyber-physical platform, combining essential shipboard OT systems with virtual simulation models. “We will build virtual models of ship OT systems using advanced multi-physics modeling and simulation.

Wärtsilä to Deliver Navigation Simulator to Singapore

Singapore Improves Maritime Safety

The number of major incidents in the Port of Singapore has dropped over the last 10 years, with fewer than 0.12 major incidents per 100,000 vessel movements in 2018, down from 0.8 in 2009.Dr Lam Pin Min, Senior Minister of State for Transport and Health, said, “I thank the maritime community for the good work in improving maritime safety. 51 Awarded Scholarships by Singapore Maritime Industry

A total of 51 scholarships worth more than S$1.4 million were awarded this year, as part of continuous outreach and talent development efforts to meet the manpower needs of the growing Singapore maritime industry - an area which contributes to some 7 per cent of the nation's economy. Sponsored by maritime companies and organisations, the MaritimeONE (Maritime Outreach NEtwork) scholarships and Tripartite Maritime Scholarship Scheme (TMSS) support various local and overseas diploma and degree programmes. In all, 40 MaritimeONE and 11 TMSS scholarships were presented at the MaritimeONE Scholarship Awards Ceremony held at the M Hotel Singapore this evening.

SSA Sponsors Maritime Scholarships

The Singapore Shipping Association (SSA) said it has underlined its commitment to investing in the future of the Singapore and global shipping industry by sponsoring S$50,000 through three scholarships during the 2014/2015 academic year. The scholarships will come under the the MaritimeONE Scholarship Program administered by the Singapore Maritime Foundation (SMF) and will be offered to students attending the Singapore Management University (SMU) and Singapore Maritime Academy at the Singapore Polytechnic. Applications for MaritimeONE scholarships will be from April 1-May 31, 2014.

Transas Supplies Singapore Maritime Academy

Singapore Maritime Academy, Singapore Polytechnic (SMA) has chosen Transas Marine Pacific to supply, install and commission a four Bridge Dynamic Positioning Simulator with one Instructor Station in its training facilities. Each bridge consists of DP2 workstation, ARPA/Radar, ECDIS, Conning and 1 visualization channel on 65 inch' plasma screen, and fully complies with Nautical Institute requirements for DP Training and certification. ABS Appoints New Divisional Lead Surveyors

In a move designed to further strengthen its field survey staff, ABS has created a new divisional lead surveyor position in each of the classification society’s Divisional headquarters, serving the Americas, Europe and the Pacific region. Frank Drake, a 26- year-veteran of ABS, has been appointed ABS Americas Divisional Lead Surveyor. His vast field experience, combined with his most recent assignment to ABS Consulting’s SafeHull Condition Assessment Program or CAP, positions him to oversee and provide support to the more than 180 ABS field surveyors assigned to ports in the US, Canada, Mexico and Central and South America. Drake earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Marine Engineering and Technology from Mississippi State University.

MPA Launches ISC of Singapore

Developed in close cooperation with the Singapore Polytechnic at a cost of S$12 million, the Integrated Simulation Center (ISC) is one of the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore's (MPA's) latest initiatives to meet the shipping industry's increasing demands for well-trained seafarers. The ISC employs some of the latest maritime simulation technologies available, covers all aspects of a ship's operations from ship-handling to crisis management and fully meets the requirements of STCW95. Speaking at the Ceremony, the Minister for Transport, Mr Yeo Cheow Tong, commented that such a facility will boost the quality and efficiency of maritime training in Singapore.

NI Validates Singapore DP

The London headquartered, Dynamic Positioning Center in conjunction with Singapore Maritime Academy announced the validation of the newly opened dynamic positioning (DP) training school in Singapore by the Nautical Institute (NI), the professional association for qualified mariners. The Singapore Dynamic Positioning Center located adjacent to Republic of Singapore Yacht Club, opened it’s doors to students wishing to train as DP Operators in March following the signing of a co-operation agreement with the internationally recognized Singapore Maritime Academy which is part of the Singapore Polytechnic.
