Partners Aim to Produce 3D-printed Propeller

ABS to Support Industrial-Grade, Cyber-Physical Platform for Shipboard OT

ABS has been announced as the industry collaborator to build the Maritime Testbed of Shipboard Operational Technology (MariOT) Systems. The project is led by iTrust, Center for Research in Cyber Security at the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD), in collaboration with ABS and Singapore Polytechnic’s Centre of Excellence in Maritime Safety (CEMS).The MariOT will support a host of cybersecurity activities to meet the challenges in the maritime industry’s push towards digitalization. MariOT will be the world's first industrial-grade, cyber-physical platform, combining essential shipboard OT systems with virtual simulation models. “We will build virtual models of ship OT systems using advanced multi-physics modeling and simulation.

PSA, SUTD to Build NewGen Port Operators

Singapore's port operator PSA Corporation Limited (PSA) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) to develop a pipeline of talent for the future mega port in Tuas.The MoU is aimed at producing data science, info-communications and engineering professionals for the Tuas port, said a joint statement by PSA and SUTD.The new Tuas Port will harness big data, and leverage automation technologies and smart systems to raise terminal productivity and service quality, it said."To build the competencies required to manage the complex ecosystems in Tuas Port, PSA will contribute port related content to SUTD curriculum, giving students exposure and advancing their knowledge in smart technologies and systems used in port operations.

MIT Launches Consortium to Improve Infrastructure Cybersecurity

The MIT Sloan School of Management launched the Interdisciplinary Consortium for Improving Critical Infrastructure Cybersecurity, also known as (IC)3, yesterday. ABS Announces Investments in Singapore

ABS announced investments in Singapore that will strengthen engineering and survey capabilities and lay the foundation for strategic global initiatives. Recognizing the growing role played by Singapore in the marine and offshore industries, ABS is expanding its operational workforce, increasing research and development (R&D) efforts and establishing a Global Performance Center in Singapore. "ABS has worked alongside industry, academia and government in Singapore for more than 50 years," said ABS President and CEO Christopher J. Wiernicki.

Singapore's MPA to Introduce Widespread Development Initiatives

The Maritime & Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) to boost maritime research & development,
 productivity and manpower development. The new initiatives were announced by Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, at the recent opening of the Sea Asia Exhibition and Conference, held in conjunction with the concurrant Singapore Maritime Week 2013. "Maritime is an important part of Singapore and contributes some 7% of Singapore's GDP. MPA is committed to working in partnership with the industry and institutes of higher learning (IHLs) in developing Maritime Singapore and are pleased to work with the industry and IHLs on the new initiatives and investments in maritime R&D, productivity and manpower development," said Mr Lam Yi Young, Chief Executive of MPA.
