Global LNG Bunkering Market to Reach USD 8.19bln by 2023

Global LNG Bunkering market is expected to grow from $248.64 million in 2016 to reach $8187.35 million by 2023 with a CAGR of 64.7%. According to Stratistics MRC, growing marine logistic business, cost efficient LNG products, and imposing environmental regulations on chemical emissions are some of the factors bolstering the market growth. In addition, easy deployment facility is another factor fuelling the market growth. However, higher capital investments, poor bunkering infrastructure are the factors inhibiting the market growth. Offshore Support Vessels (OSVs) segment is anticipated to be the largest market for the global LNG Bunkering market during the forecast period. The growth is attributed to feasible operations during shipping and loading.

Wärtsilä Propulsion for LNG Bunker Vessel

A new 5,800-cubic-meter LNG bunker and feeder vessel, being built for Sirius Veder Gas AB at Royal Bodewes, Hoogezand, in the Netherlands, will be powered by a Wärtsilä propulsion solution. Wärtsilä, who received the contract in September, will supply a propulsion package comprising a six-cylinder Wärtsilä 34DF dual-fuel main engine capable of running on either LNG or diesel, a reduction gearbox with power take-off (PTO), a shaft line suitable for use with environmentally friendly lubricants and equipped with a Wärtsilä Airguard aft seal that allows zero emissions, and a Wärtsilä controllable pitch propeller. The latest Wärtsilä 34DF engine version features high power output and reduced fuel consumption in both gas and diesel modes, according to the manufacturer.

Skangass Celebrates Topping Up

Nordic liquefied natural gas operator Skangass  has celebrated a topping out ceremony at its Pori LNG terminal. The company said it was making progress in the construction of the storage tank for Finland's first LNG import terminal at the southern port of Pori. “Excellent progress has been made in the work, and the weather has also been on our side” Project Manager Stanislav Lysak from Gasum commented in a note, not elaborating on when the structure would be ready to receive LNG. The LNG terminal will comprise the LNG storage tank, loading docks, process units, flare torch, three loading docks for road tankers, a transformer building and a heat production unit. Skangass is investing €86 million on the Pori LNG import terminal in order to strengthen the Finnish LNG infrastructure.

First Skangass LNG Loading in Zeebrugge

LNG was loaded aboard Anthony Veder's Coral Energy, the Skangass time chartered ship, at the Fluxys LNG Terminal in Zeebrugge, marking the first Skangass loading at Zeebrugge under the recent agreement between Skangass and energy company Eni. Skangass and Eni entered an agreement for small scale LNG, securing the small scale LNG availability in the Nordic markets and supports EU programs for clean industry. The Coral Energy carried the LNG to Skangass' receiving terminal in Lysekill, Sweden to be distributed by pipeline or trucks. Skangass is continuously developing the LNG infrastructure in the Nordic markets. A new receiving terminal is under construction in Pori, Finland that will be completed in 2016.

Wärtsilä to Begin Building LNG Terminal in January

Wärtsilä has been given full notice to proceed (NTP) from Manga LNG Oy for the supply of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) import terminal in Tornio, Northern Finland. Wärtsilä will commence construction on the site near the port of Tornio in January 2015. Manga LNG Oy is a joint venture of Outokumpu Group, Svenskt Stål AB (SSAB), Skangass and EPV Energy Ltd. Wärtsilä initially announced this project in January 2014. The order, valued at approximately EUR 100 million, will be included in Wärtsilä's order intake in December 2014.

Wärtsilä to Proceed with first LNG Terminal

Wärtsilä has been given full notice to proceed (NTP) from Manga LNG Oy for the supply of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) import terminal in Tornio, Northern Finland. Wärtsilä will commence construction on the site near the port of Tornio in January 2015. Manga LNG Oy is a joint venture of Outokumpu Group, Svenskt Stål AB (SSAB), Skangass and EPV Energy Ltd. Wärtsilä initially announced this project in January 2014. The order, valued at approximately EUR 100 million, will be included in Wärtsilä's order intake in December 2014. The turnkey delivery of the first import terminal supplied by Wärtsilä includes complete unloading, storing and regasification equipment for LNG. The capacity of the LNG storage tank will be 50 000 cubic metres.

Skangass Builds LNG Terminal in Pori, Finland

With investment support from the Finnish Government of 185 million NOK Skangass has decided to build a new import terminal for LNG. The terminal will be completed in 2016. Skangass plans to create an efficient LNG logistics chain in the Pori area. When the terminal is ready in Autumn 2016 it will have a capacity of 30,000 cubic meters. Skangass has already selected the main contractor and suppliers for the project. ”The investment decision will result in speedy progress in the construction project. It is highly important that the Pori terminal is completed on schedule and that we can launch deliveries to our existing and new customers.

Finland Grants Support to Three Small LNG Terminals

The Finnish government granted 65.2 million euros (84.22 million US dollar) in subsidies to build three small liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminals to cut on use of fuel oil and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in industry, the economy ministry said on Thursday. Finland is building a network of LNG terminals along its coastline, expecting that LNG will be increasingly used as a shipping fuel in the Baltic Sea. "With the help of this support, Manga LNG Oy, Skangass Oy, and Oy Aga Ab will build LNG terminals in Tornio, Pori and Rauma respectively," the ministry said in a statement. Manga LNG is a joint venture, which includes Finnish stainless steel maker Outokumpu Oyj.

Skangass Granted Permission for LNG Terminal

The Swedish Government (Länsstyrelsen in Dalarnas Län) has granted Skangass permission to build and operate a new Terminal for LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) within the harbour in Gävle, Sweden. Skangass aims at starting the construction work during 2015. The permission is given for a storing capacity of 30 000 m3 LNG and a handling of up to 500 000 tonnes LNG each year. The planned LNG terminal is an important part of the expansion of LNG infrastructure in Sweden and the Baltic Sea. The environmental advantages of using LNG instead of oil based fuel within shipping, industry and heavy transportation are substantial. Sulphur and particle emissions are reduced to almost zero, nitrogen oxides (NOx) emission is reduced by 85-90 per cent and the carbon dioxide (CO2) is reduced by 25 per cent.

Gasum Boosts LNG Network with Skangass Deal

Reuters - Finnish gas company Gasum is to acquire 51 percent of Norwegian Skangass's distribution operations from Lyse Corporation as it seeks to improve the efficiency of its liquefied natural gas (LNG) network. Gasum said on Monday that the deal, which will make it the largest Nordic operator in the LNG market, is also intended to ensure that it benefits from tighter European Union emissions regulations. Various new regulations on sulphur emissions in the shipping sector will come into place for much of the North and Baltic Sea as well as the United States and Canada in 2015, which has driven interest in alternative fuels to diesel.

Starting with wood, fuel changed to coal, which held sway for many years. Oil began to be used in the late nineteenth century and was clearly the dominate marine fuel of the twentieth century. Environmental shortcomings of fuel oil, particularly traditional heavy bunkers, were brought under increasing scrutiny as the twentieth century came to a close.

LNG Carrier 'Coral Energy' naming ceremony to take place next month at the Port of Rotterdam Cruise Terminal. The new ship is claimed by the Dutch owners, Anthony Veder,  to be world’s first direct driven dual-fuel ice class 1A LNG carrier.
