Ward Leonard Unveils New AC Induction Motor Line

Fairbanks Morse Defense (FMD), a portfolio company of Arcline Investment Management, introduces the Novo1 motor line by Ward Leonard, the newest AC induction motor line for naval vessels.Described by the manufacturer as "durable" and "reliable", the Novo1 motor line is modular in design, has a commonality of parts, and has a variety of mounting configurations, speeds, and enclosure types available to meet any shipboard requirements. It is manufactured in FMD's vertically integrated facility in Thomaston, Conn.

Ulstein Retrofits HMC Vessel to HLV

The marine contractor in the international offshore oil and gas and renewables industry Heerema Marine Contractors (HMC) contracted Ulstein Verft shipyard in 2018 to provide design and engineering services to convert their deepwater construction vessel Aegir into a fast sailing heavy lift vessel (HLV).The vessel is now converted into a dedicated offshore heavy lift vessel. MTEA Launches New EPA Tier 3 Marine Engine

Mitsubishi Turbocharger and Engine America, Inc. (MTEA) announces the introduction of a 684 hp at 1,800 rpm (510 kW at 1,800 rpm) engine that complies with EPA Tier 3 regulations. The new S6R-Y3MPTAW-1 model is a propulsion-certified unit ideal for heavy-duty workboat repower applications, such as with tugboats, cargo ships and offshore vessels. It’s a high horsepower, high displacement and high mass solution that achieves Tier 3 compliance in a fully mechanically controlled package.

Four Passenger Cargo Vessels Ordered in India

KNUD E. HANSEN (KEH) and Smart Engineering & Design Solutions (India) (SEDS) have recently teamed up to deliver two new vessel designs, each with two vessels to be built, for the Andaman & Nicobar Administration of India. The larger of the two designs will provide a link between the Indian mainland and the Andaman & Nicobar Island Group to the east of the subcontinent with a passenger capacity of 1,200 and carrying up to 1,000t of mixed cargo. Newest Sub-chapter of WISTA Inaugurated in Kochi

The newst sub–chapter of Women’s International Shipping and Trading Association – was inaugurated in Kochi on the 29th of August 2014, making it the fifth chapter in the country. The sub-chapter was launched as a part of the 2nd Hotel, and was attended by eminent personalities from the Indian maritime industry. Mr Umesh Grover, CEO of Indian National Ship owner’s Association (INSA), and Mr Prakash Iyer, President of Cochin Steamer Agents Association (CSAA) inaugurated the launch as esteemed representatives of the industry and supporters of WISTA. The launch of the sub-chapter was marked by the unveiling and handing over of the WISTA flag to the dignitaries by the WISTA India Treasurer and Director of GAC Shipping (India) Pvt Ltd, Ms Miriam Mathews.

St Engineering's Land Systems Arm Inject Capital in Brazil

Singapore Technologies Engineering Ltd (ST Engineering) announced today that SDG Kinetics Pte. Ltd. (SDGK) and Autonomous Technology Pte Ltd (ATPL), wholly owned subsidiaries of its land systems arm, Singapore Technologies Kinetics Ltd (ST Kinetics), have injected BRL5,499,450 (approximately S$3.2m) and BRL550 (approximately S$318) respectively into the capital of LeeBoy Brazil Equipamentos De Construção Ltda. (LeeBoy Brazil), as working capital for LeeBoy Brazil’s operations in Brazil. This equity injection increases SDGK and ATPL’s total investment in LeeBoy Brazil to BRL28.5m (approximately S$15.7m). ST Kinetics has correspondingly injected approximately S$3.2m into the capital of SDGK as funding for SDGK’s capital injection into LeeBoy Brazil.

Subsea Pile Gripper Frames Delivered by Ulstein

Ulstein subsidiary, Ulstein Idea Equipment Solutions, complete delivery, installation & testing of two pile gripper frames (PGF) for the Offshore Wind Force JV. The PGF’s will be used by DONG Energy West of Duddon Sands (UK) Limited and Scottish Power Renewables (WODS) Limited for the installation of mono-pile foundations in the West of Duddon Sands Offshore Windfarm offshore UK. The customised pile gripper frames combine smart engineering with the latest in control technology, and are unique in that they are retractable and the lower weight of their design makes them more cost-effective.

Jumbo Javelin Transports Pair of Massive Cranes

Jumbo transported two huge Ship-to-Shore Kalmar cranes, combined with a total of 7 knocked down RTG’s from Taicang, China to Cartagena, Colombia for its client Cargotec. Since the STS cranes were too big to handle in their fully assembled shape, both cranes were shipped in (still respectable) parts to fit Jumbo Javelin’s deck and cargo hold. Because of the enormous width, height and weight of the cranes and in order to remain within all safety margins during the long sea voyage, special support and sea fastening structures were engineered by Jumbo together with the client. The crane structures, weighing up to 1,000 t per piece, reached 80 m above deck and protruded 30 m on starboard side of the vessel.

Campbell Orders Two Bulk Carriers

Bahamian shipowners Campbell Shipping Ltd. signed an order with Tsuji Heavy Industries (Jiangsu) Ltd., located at  Changjiagang, Jiang Su for two 37,500 dwt double-hull log fitted bulk carriers, with an option for two more. These ships, which will be classed by ABS and fly the Bahamas flag, are to have 179.9 meter lengths overall with 30.4 meter beams, scantling drafts of 10.2 meters and service speeds of 13.9 knots. Their prime movers will be MAN B&W 5S50ME-9.2 Tier II diesels. The vessels are being built to the “SEATRANSPORTER” series design developed by Nassau-based Algoship Designers, with basic, classification and production designs produced by Smart Engineering and Design Solutions Ltd. (SEDS), an engineering firm with offices in Nassau, Bahamas and Kochi, India.

Campbell Shipping, Heavy Industry Agreement

Bahamian shipowners Campbell Shipping Ltd. signed an order with Zhong Chuan Heavy Industry Shipbuilding Co. Ltd. of Zhoushan for two 32,000 dwt double-hull bulk carriers, with an option for two more. These ships, which will be classed by ABS and fly the Bahamas flag, are to have 600 ft length overall, with a 92 ft beam, a scantling draft of 33 ft and a service speed of 14 knots. Their prime movers will be MAN B&W 6S46MC-C8 diesels, making them among the first vessels to order MAN’s new Tier-II compliant engines. The vessels are being built to the Transporter series design developed by Nassau-based Algoship Designers, with basic, classification and production designs produced by Smart Engineering and Design Solutions Ltd.
