INMEX SMM India Finds its Footing

The impressive response to the INMEX SMM India 2015 that was officially opened yesterday by Deepak Shetty, Director General of Shipping, Government of India, seems to be a clear indication that the green shoots of economic recovery are finally making their appearance in the country. For some time now there has hardly been any event including conferences and exhibitions that succeeded to break even. But the three-day INMEX SMM India now underway (23rd to 25th September 2015) at the Bombay Exhibition Centre, will certainly be something for most participants to write home about. The turnout of visitors at the opening day was more than expected as lot of interest has been generated in anticipation of new technologies set to make their debut.

SMM India - CLOSING REPORT

With some 3,000 delegates and visitors from all parts of the world, SMM India, shipbuilding, machinery & marine technology international trade fair, closed after the three scheduled days of the exhibition and accompanying conference, held in Mumbai from 7 to 9 April. This second event established SMM India as one of the most important maritime trade fairs on the subcontinent. The state-of-the-art products and new developments presented there met with a great deal of interest from the trade visitors, among whom there was a delegation of thirteen representatives of German industry.

SMM Istanbul 2011, Turkish Shipbuilding Subsidies

SMM Istanbul 2011 now has the support of the Turkish Undersecretariat for Maritime Affairs and the Turkish Undersecretariat for Defence Industries (SSM). The second SMM Istanbul is to be held at the modernized and enlarged Lütfi Kirdar Convention & Exhibition Centre (ICEC) from 26 to 28 January next year. At that first event in January 2009, SMM Istanbul attracted more than 4,000 trade visitors from 66 countries, showcasing 150 exhibitors from 30 countries. The high international level achieved right from the start by the first SMM overseas exhibition no doubted owed a lot to the quality standards of the SMM brand, which stands for the world’s leading international shipbuilding industry fair.

Opening of SMM Int’l Trade Fair, India

The world has come to recognize the potential of the Indian shipping industry, its capability to innovate and grow on the global stage, said APVN Sarma, former Secretary, Shipping, at the inaugural SMM India, shipbuilding, machinery & marine technology trade fair and exhibition. “The SMM exhibition is being organised at a very appropriate time”, said Arun K Mago, Chairman, Advisory Council, SMM India 2009. Mago said, “Though India and China were not affected as much as by other developed countries, it has had an adverse affect on the shipping trade. It has been one of the worst moments for the sector in living memory. SMM India 2009 provides a platform for dialogue and business interaction between over 100 exhibitors from all parts of the world.

“The maritime industry will become more and more important for India in the coming years,” said Tobias König, Founder and Managing Director of König & Cie. GmbH & Co. German Marine Industry: Preparing for Lean 2010

The German marine sector enjoyed 8.4% growth in 2008.

“2008 was generally still a very good year with impressive 8.4% growth. In autumn, however, gloom also spread to our sector, which has been so used to success in the last five years,” reports Dr. Alexander Nürnberg, chairman of the German Engineering Federation (VDMA) – Marine and Offshore Equipment Industries at the association’s press conference in Hamburg. “We had expected a consolidation of the  shipbuilding markets, which had been very overheated up to mid-2008. But no one could foresee the actual massive impact of declines in orders…
