Scottish Govt Takes Over Ferguson Shipyard

Ferguson Marine Shipyard in Port Glasgow, Scotland, is now set to enter public ownership.The Scottish Government has announced that it has reached an agreement with administrators to take the Ferguson Marine shipyard in Port Glasgow into public control.According to government sources, the agreement means two ferries currently under construction at the yard for Caledonian Maritime Assets Ltd (CMAL) will be completed.A program board has been set up by Scotland's economy secretary Derek Mackay to ensure effective completion of the two ferries being built at Ferguson Marine shipyard.More jobs could be created at newly nationalized Ferguson Marine in order to complete the two vessels which nearly sank the shipyard…

Scottish Independence Would Hurt Maritime Sector

A vote for independence from the U.K. would have a negative effect on the Scottish shipping and offshore maritime sector, according to a survey by leading international accountant and shipping adviser Moore Stephens. The survey elicited the views of leading members of the international shipping community on the predicted impact on Scotland’s shipping and offshore maritime industry of the country voting for independence on September 18 2014. More than half the number of respondents to the survey felt that a vote for independence would have a negative effect.

Rigid Reel-Lay Pipe-in-Pipe Installed Offshore Malaysia

McDermott International, Inc. reports that its subsidiary has become the first to install rigid reel-lay pipe-in-pipe in Asia-Pacific for the Siakap North-Petai (SNP) development project offshore Malaysia. At more than 3,900 feet (1,190 meters), the SNP development is one of the industry’s most challenging deepwater projects. “Successfully installing the rigid reeled pipe-in-pipe flowlines on the Siakap project is a significant achievement for McDermott and a first for the region,” said David Dickson, President and Chief Executive Officer, McDermott.

UK Defense Chief: Clyde Best for Shipbuilding

The U.K. Chief of Defense Staff said the Westminster government will "get our ships in the place it makes the most sense," blasting a hole in suggestions that if Scotland votes Yes then Glasgow would lose out on work to build the Type 26 ships. Columbia Container Terminal Orders Tideworks TOS

Tideworks Technology® announce that Barranquilla Container Terminal chooses its Terminal Operating System (TOS). Barranquilla Container Terminal is a joint venture between SSA International and Sociedad Portuaria del Norte (SNP). The new facility will be managed by Santa Marta International Terminal Company (SMITCO) and will initially have capacity for approximately 122,000 TEU annually. Barranquilla Container Terminal plans to expand the container yard to five hectares and increase capacity to 190,000 TEU during a second phase of development. The terminal will deploy Tideworks’ Mainsail Terminal Management System®, Forecast® by Tideworks and Spinnaker Planning Management System® to manage container operations.

Cargotec Delivers Its First Zero Emission(TM) RTGs to Asia

Cargotec has completed the delivery of six Kalmar E-One2 rubber-tyred gantry (RTG) cranes featuring Zero Emission(TM) technology to Vietnam's terminal operator Saigon Newport (SNP) and its subsidiaries, Tan Cang Logistics Joint Stock Company (TCL) and Tan Cang Warehousing Joint Stock Company (TCW). The machines boast major environmental and economical advantages, such as no local emissions, low operating costs and reduced maintenance. All of the cranes operate at Cat Lai Terminal in Ho Chi Minh City.

Saigon Newport Orders 10 Kalmar E-One RTGs

Saigon Newport Company (SNP) in Vietnam has awarded Kalmar Industries a landmark contract for ten E-One rubber-tyred gantry (RTG) cranes, destined for its Tan Cang-Cat Lai container terminal near Ho Chi Minh City. The agreement is the latest in a succession of orders from environmentally conscious terminal operators across Asia for Kalmar’s revolutionary all-electric RTG, introduced to the market just over two years ago. SNP’s 6+1 wide and 1-over-5 high units will come equipped with Kalmar’s container position verification system, Smartpath, and will be delivered by May 2008.
