Donald L Blount: 1935 - 2022

Donald L. Blount, an international esteemed technical expert in the field of high-speed craft hydrodynamics died on July 14, 2022 at the age of 87.Donald was driven all his life to do one job: design high-speed powerboats that could comfortably and efficiently run through rough water. SENER to Present Two Papers in Houston

Hasuly Joins The Shearer Group

The Shearer Group, Inc. (TSGI) announced a new addition to its naval architecture, marine engineering and marine surveying firm, Anne Hasuly, P.E. Hasuly has recently joined TSGI as a naval architect. She is a licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Texas and holds a B.S. in Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering from the University of New Orleans. Anne is also a member of the Society of Naval Architects & Marine Engineers and the Louisiana Engineering Society. Prior to joining TSGI, Hasuly worked for Aqualis Offshore as a senior naval architect.

Rendall Joins The Shearer Group

Naval architect Ryan Rendall has joined the naval architecture, marine engineering and marine surveying firm The Shearer Group, Inc. (TSGI).   Prior to joining TSGI, Rendall worked for Metal Shark Boats as a naval architect and marine engineer. He received a B.S. in Marine Engineering from Texas A&M University. He is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Society of Naval Architects & Marine Engineers and the Marine Technology Society.

Bollinger VP Fanguy Snags SNAME Award

Louisiana-based shipbuilder Bollinger Shipyards, LLC announced its vice president for quality management system, Dennis Fanguy, will receive the 2015 William M. Kennedy from the Society of Naval Architects & Marine Engineers (SNAME). The award, given in recognition of outstanding service and contribution in the development of systems and planning applying to shipbuilding and ship repair, will be presented to Fanguy at the World Maritime Technology Conference / SNAME Maritime Convention in Providence, R.I. at the President’s Luncheon on November 6, 2015.

NSRP Calls for SNAME AGM Learned Papers

The National Shipbuilding Research Program (NSRP) seeks papers for presentation at Society of Naval Architects & Marine Engineers AGM. The NSRP is a collaboration of U.S. Shipyards that focuses on common issues with a goal of reducing the cost of acquiring, operating and maintaining Navy ships. The Ship Production Symposium in conjunction with SNAME’s 2013 Annual Meeting has released a “Call for Papers”. The SNAME 2013 Annual Meeting/Ship Production Symposium will be held on November 6th-8th in Bellevue, WA. Deadline for abstracts is June 3rd. Please send all submissions to [email protected]. Greek Slant on Engine Monitoring on SNAME Athens Agenda

Greek Section of The Society of Naval Architects & Marine Engineers (SNAME) upcoming meeting will hear about the technology. At its third technical meeting for the 2012-2013 season, Mr. Nicholas Kolliarakis, Managing Director at MIE Company Ltd, Greece will speak on the subject of: Engine Monitor: The Greek Answer to Engine Performance Monitoring”. In a time of high bunker prices efficient operation of the engine becomes critical. Engine monitor is a tool which aims to fulfill that need. Roden Joins Fairbanks Morse Engine

Feature: China: Growing Influence in All Matters Maritime

China's importance in the world maritime market has accelerated rapidly over the past decade, but it appears that current and near future growth will prove even more prolific. Chinese shipyards for 10 years have continued to dent the market share numbers of major shipbuilders in Japan, Korea and Europe, and it appears that the shipyards will continue to scoop up ship repair and new ship construction business. It emerged this year as the third largest shipbuilding country in the world, with about seven percent of worldwide business as measured by compensated gross tonnage (cgt). According to a recent report from Drewry Shipping Consultants, China's shipbuilding capacity is set to increase threefold, to 3.5 million cgt, by 2005/2006.

AVEVA Congratulates University of Newcastle
