Danelec Marine’s new intelligent remote management platform is bringing the Internet of Things (IoT) to the maritime industry by providing easy, low-cost access to data from ships at sea. The second-generation DanelecConnect telematics platform is now fully available and the first ship installations are currently underway. The company is working with third-party software application providers to use the DanelecConnect application programming interface (API) tool to capture data from shipboard systems and sensors into their specialized software packages.

Marioff Corporation Oy has announcd the launch of a new HI-FOG Electric Pump Unit (EPU) for the high-pressure water mist fire suppression segment. Incorporating closed loop pressure control, the EPU revolutionizes pumping technology for high-pressure water mist technology. Marioff, a  developer of the water mist fire protection technology, is a part of UTC Climate, Controls & Security, a unit of United Technologies Corp. The EPU’s advanced control system ensures that the pump unit provides only the required pressure and flow.

Nautronix have successfully delivered the first two NASDrill RS925 and NASeBOP (Emergency BOP Acoustic Control) systems from their current order of four systems for two of Rowan’s new ultra-deepwater drillships, the Rowan Relentless and the Rowan Reliance. The total contract value is worth approximately $10 million. Nautronix’ NASDrill RS925 system has been designed specifically to meet the requirements for a reliable, stable DP and position reference system for demanding offshore operations, in particular deepwater drilling vessels.

Transas Marine, in collaboration with local agent Mecys, announced the completion of a complex simulator project for the Korea Coast Guard Academy (KCGA). The real hardware integration and achieved level of realism make this simulator complex truly unique. Within the project, Transas has developed models for bridge and engine room simulators matching the layout of PV3000 and three other Korea Coast Guard vessels. Unison has received an order from Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS), the supplier of nuclear-powered aircraft carriers and one of two shipbuilders of nuclear-powered submarines for the U.S. Navy, for an all-electric CNC machine capable of bending large-bore tubing and piping up to eight inches in diameter (219mm OD). The machine will be the first of its type ever built, extending the shipbuilder’s range of precision software-controlled bending facilities to include fabrication of larger diameter pipes that previously could only be bent on very high torque hydraulic machines.

PetroCom’s new Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) satellite communication system is structured around private communication networks. Built with the newest technologies and equipment, this system is designed to offer the ability to turn bandwidth on and off, re-allocate bandwidth or schedule increased bandwidth as business needs change. Recently, PetroCom signed agreements to provide VSAT voice and data services for Onyx Special Services, Superior Offshore International and Tetra Applied Technologies. Last month, Helix Energy Solutions tapped PetroCom to provide VSAT services for its offshore fleet. Multiplex VSAT communication networks with speeds from 64 to 512K are available for fixed and stabilized applications.

Caterpillar's Engine Products Division offers a new totally electronic 3412E marine diesel engine with ratings from 530-1,400 bhp for commercial marine application. When compared to previous Cat 3412C engines, the 3412E has more horsepower, improved emissions control and dramatically enhanced midrange performance, with faster acceleration, more available power and torque and improved cruising characteristics. Superior reserve power allows the engine to respond quickly to increased load caused by adverse conditions such as swift currents, loaded nets and hard turns. Test engines rated 624 bhp at 1,800 rpm have shown excellent results in two 70 ft. (21.3 m) twin-screw inland waterway tow boats.
