iMarine Software announced today the release of SeaProcurement (SeaProc) Version 2, the next generation of eProcurement systems specifically targeting the marine industry. “Typical corporate software systems can be expensive to license and support,” said Issa Odeh, CEO iMarine Software. “This is also true of eProcurement systems, even if they are cloud-based. Moving software delivery to the cloud in a Software-as-a-Service (SAAS) model should deliver an equal or better end-user experience along with an overall cost savings for both buyer and seller. We are not seeing this in the current market and feel that this is preventing many companies from moving to an automated eProcurement system. Current systems are either too complicated, too expensive, or both.

Raytheon Company deliver more than 6-million lines of software to the U.S. Navy for the DDG 1000 Zumwalt-class destroyer program. Part of the Total Ship Computing Environment (TSCE) -- the integrated mission system for the DDG 1000 class -- the software delivery supports ship activation and combat system testing, set to commence this year. Computer Associates International, Inc. (CA) announced that Fincantieri has implemented Unicenter Network and Systems Management to control its complex distributed infrastructure, and CA's eTrust security solutions to protect its eBusiness applications and data. In 1999, stiff competition from Asia and reductions in defense spending prompted a far-reaching restructuring program to rationalize corporate processes. "The cornerstone of our renewal program was information technology," said Gianantonio Rui, CIO, Fincantieri. Fincantieri's distributed infrastructure comprises some 70 Windows NT servers handling data and communications for 1,800 Windows and 1,200 CAD workstations across the country.
