Common Structural Rules Software Updated to Comply with Latest IACS Rules

Common Structural Rules Software LLC, a joint venture company formed by ABS and Lloyd’s Register, has updated its software products in line with the latest International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) rule changes.Common Structural Rules (CSR) Prescriptive Analysis (PA) and CSR Finite Element Analysis (FEA) have been updated to meet the latest version of CSR Bulk Carrier and Oil Tanker Rules on January 1, 2021 issued by IACS that entered into force on July 1, 2021.This update assists users with the development of new designs to meet the latest rules as well as the application of older rule versions to designs that may apply to the contract date of the ship.The software provides users with an easy way to evaluate ship designs against CSR and is employed by around 500 users.

Elcome Completes Satcom Switchover for LNG Tanker Fleet

Elcome International said it has completed a satellite communications retrofit program for a major fleet of liquefied natural gas (LNG) tankers providing broadband data and voice services. “Our team decommissioned the existing VSAT systems and installed new SAILOR 900 antennas and below-deck systems on 40 ships within four months. Most of the installations were performed at sea, and the others were made at ports in eight different countries,” said Jimmy Grewal, executive director of Dubai-based Elcome International.

Tankers to Require Stability Instruments Starting 2016

Lloyd's Register informs that new stability instrument requirements will apply to all tankers constructed (keel laid) on or after January 1, 2016. These ships will be required to fit an approved stability instrument, capable of verifying compliance with intact and damage stability requirements. Oil tankers, chemical tankers and gas carriers constructed before January 1, 2016 must also comply with the requirements (by confirming or upgrading existing equipment, or installing new equipment) at the first applicable scheduled renewal survey of the ship after January 1…

ABS Releases Chemical Tanker e-Learning Package

ABS, a provider of maritime classification services, launched Chem-eL, a specialized training package designed to support safety and competence in chemical tanker operations. Chem-eL is a sector-specific e-learning marine product developed in accordance with the requirements stated in the International Maritime Organization's International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers and the relevant IMO Model Course. Developed by ABS in cooperation with Malaysian Maritime Academy (ALAM), a subsidiary of the MISC Bhd.

SHI to Extend Existing Intergraph Software Installation

Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) has committed to using Intergraph’s Marine Enterprise solutions suite for the design and manufacturing of ships. SHI will extend its existing Intergraph software installation by adding a significant number of IntelliShip seats. In addition, Intergraph’s new solution ‘IntelliShip Foundation’ will act as a central information management system for engineering and manufacturing data at SHI.

Xantic and MISC Sign Agreement

Xantic has announced the signing of a contract with Malaysia International Shipping Corporation Bhd (MISC). The agreement will see Xantic provide consultancy, training, support, software installation and airtime as part of a major business transformation process currently being implemented by MISC. The contract between Xantic and MISC is worth US$10 million over two years. The catalyst for the agreement was MISC’s decision to refocus its business in line with its vision of becoming “the preferred supplier of world class maritime transportation and logistics services”. Started in 1997, the final phase of this project is now underway in the form of implementing the operational systems within the entire MISC organisation and its fleet.
