Retrofit Package Designed to Include Solar, Wind and Storage

RINA has awarded an Approval in Principle (AiP) for a green retrofit package designed by naval architect Aurelia in partnership with Econowind, Wattlab and Vertom.The solution incorporates rigid sails, solar panels, batteries, optimised weather-routing, and a smart decision support system developed by Hydrographic and Marine Consultants (HMC) to dramatically reduce emissions on an existing 203,000dwt Newcastlemax bulk carrier.For the Newcastlemax bulk carrier, the challenge was to meet EEXI and the CII index for the reduction of CO2 emissions.

MARAD Awards $19.6 Million in Small Shipyard Grants

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Maritime Administration (MARAD) announced $19.6 million in grant awards to 24 small shipyards in 19 states through the Small Shipyard Grant Program.The funds will help awardees—many of which being family-run businesses—modernize, increase productivity and expand local employment opportunities while competing in the global marketplace, MARAD said.“Small businesses are the lifeblood of the American economy, and small shipyards play a critical role in America’s maritime industry, helping us get the goods we depend on every day,” said U.S.

Wärtsilä Installs 'Unique' Hybrid Power System on Paolo Topic Bulk Carrier

World's Largest: Sunseap to Build $2B Floating Solar Farm in Batam, Indonesia

Singapore's Sunseap Group says it plans to spend $2 billion to build the world's largest floating solar farm and energy storage system in neighboring Indonesian city Batam, which will double its renewable power generation capacity.The floating photovoltaic system is expected to have a capacity of 2.2 gigawatt-peak (GWp), and will be located on the Duriangkang Reservoir in Batam Island spanning around 1,600 hectares, Sunseap said in a statement.The company and Batam Indonesia free zone authority…

Two Long Beach Port Funded Projects Opened

In a festive ceremony, two Port of Long Beach grant-funded environmental projects had their grand openings yesterday,  at the Century Villages of Cabrillo homeless rehabilitation complex in West Long Beach. Century Villages at Cabrillo was awarded grants under the Port’s Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reduction Grant Program.
