Eco Marine Power Inks Deal on Joint Eco Ship Study

A "major shipping company" based in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Eco Marine Power Co., Ltd. (EMP) of Japan have agreed to undertake a joint Eco Ship technical study related to renewable energy solutions for ships including Aquarius Marine Solar Power, EnergySail and Aquarius MRE, according to EMP. ClassNK Grants AIP for Vessel Wind and Solar Power System

MAS Integrates Fuel Monitoring System Onboard

Automation for Ship Renewable Energy Systems Unveiled

EMP Aquarius MRE Prepares for Sea Trials

Eco Marine Power (EMP) has begun preparing for sea trials of its Aquarius Marine Renewable Energy (MRE) solution in co-operation with strategic partners and ship owner Hisafuku Kisen K.K. of Onomichi, Japan. This preparatory work will lead to the world’s first installation of an integrated rigid sail and solar power system for ships using EMP’s patented technologies including the EnergySail. This is a major step forward towards a more sustainable future for shipping and is expected to result in the wider deployment of EMP’s solutions on ships ranging from coastal cargo vessels to bulk ore carriers and cruise ships. Currently underway is a feasibility study involving several large bulk carriers including the Belgrano, Nord Gemini and Bulk Chile.

Fuel Consumption, Emissions Monitoring Software Updated

As part of the ongoing Blue Star Delos Renewable Energy Innovation Project, Eco Marine Power (EMP) stated that the Aquarius Management & Automation System (MAS) installed on Blue Star Delos has been updated with new fuel oil consumption (FOC) and emissions monitoring software. This updated software combined with the Aquarius MAS hardware allows for fuel consumption data from all flow meters on the ship to be displayed and logged in real-time. In addition CO2, NOx and SOx emissions are calculated based on the fuel type being used. Data is logged every minute and via a connection to a dedicated GPS unit, the ships location and speed is displayed and logged. A trip-meter is also available so that fuel consumption can be monitored for a specific time period or voyage.

Renewable Energy on Ships: ECO Marine Sees Potential in U.S.

In a step towards bringing renewable energy to shipping, Eco Marine Power (EMP) has been granted a United States Patent for technology related to its wind and solar power system for ships – Aquarius MRE. As a result, EMP now intends to explore joint development project opportunities in the United States and is currently considering a number of options. Technologies related to EMP's Aquarius MRE can be incorporated into existing ship designs such as cruise ships, RoRo vessels, large ferries, car carriers or into future design concepts such as the Aquarius Eco Ship.

Aquarius MAS with Marine Solar Power Installed on Delos

Eco Marine Power together with strategic partners has installed an Aquarius Management & Automation System (MAS) integrated with a marine solar panel array on-board the Blue Star 'Delos'. The Aquarius MAS has been installed as part of a joint renewable energy project with Blue Star Ferries and the approximately 2kW trial solar array on-board the vessel is now in operation and providing a source of renewable energy for the ship. This important milestone for EMP means that the company has taken the Aquarius MAS from development to commercial use in just a few years and is also a critical step towards the commercial release of the combined wind & solar power system for shipping - the Aquarius MRE (Marine Renewable Energy) System.

Two Long Beach Port Funded Projects Opened

In a festive ceremony, two Port of Long Beach grant-funded environmental projects had their grand openings yesterday,  at the Century Villages of Cabrillo homeless rehabilitation complex in West Long Beach. Century Villages at Cabrillo was awarded grants under the Port’s Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reduction Grant Program. Celebrity Cruises take delivery of their new cruise ship in the Dutch port of Eemshaven. The 126,000 gt Celebrity Reflection is the fith ship out of a series of five cruise ships the German shipyard is building for Celebrity Cruises. The owners and the shipbuilders have developed and built another extremely eco-friendly ship with highly energy-efficient systems, a solar power system, optimised hydrodynamics, a very efficient underwater hull coating and an energy-saving lighting system using LEDs, all cut back the ship's energy demand considerably.

Disney Fantasy: German Shipbuilding at its Best

Disney Fantasy was delivered by Germany's Meyer Werft, the "Cradle of Cruise Ships."

These are the pictures which are going around the world on the occasion of towing again an enormous cruise ship out of the covered building docks and pull it in high precision work via the very narrow inland waterway across the grassland of the river Ems towards the open ocean. These pictures brings the city of Papenburg, with its 35.000 residents, into focus. The pictures are unreal as well as fascinating. With its periodical rerun, always then, when a new cruise ship leaves the Meyer Werft of Papenburg, they are burnt into the memory as a kind of an icon of the new ultra-modern Northwest.

Corvus Energy Joins Aquarius Project

Fukuoka, Japan's Eco Marine Power Co. Ltd. announced that Corvus Energy will supply the energy storage component for its patent-pending Aquarius Wind and Solar Power System for ocean-going ships. Since 2010, Eco Marine Power has worked on developing an advanced integrated system of rigid, photovoltaic-equipped sails and energy storage modules to allow ocean-going ships to harness renewable energies and reduce their need for oil. The rigid sails are used for propulsion and are covered in solar panels to capture solar energy. Corvus Energy’s lithium-polymer battery technology will store energy collected by the array of wind and solar panels. The batteries will then be used to power the ship’s operational equipment or, alternatively, be used as a power source when at harbor or at anchor.
