Somali Pirates Shift Long-term Hijacked Vessel Closer to Beach
A Spanish Maritime Patrol Aircraft from EU Naval Force has overflown the pirate controlled fishing vessel 'FV Naham 3'and observed that the vessel had moved from its sea anchorage to a Somali beach in the Galmudug region. Armed men were sighted on board FV Naham 3, however, no hostages have been seen in or near the vessel. FV Naham 3 has been in armed pirate hands since it was pirated in the Indian Ocean on 26 March 2012. She had been tethered to MV Albedo, which was pirated in November 2010, for several months.
Somali Pirate Victims: Lifeboats Spotted
Photo update: sunken MV Albedo lifeboats sighted from the air on Somali beach. An EU Naval Force warship and Maritime Patrol Aircraft closed the scene to search for survivors. During the aerial search, EU Naval Force Maritime Patrol Aircraft sighted two life boats on a Somali beach approximately 14 miles north of the position of the Albedo. No members of the MV Albedo crew or pirates were sighted in or near the lifeboats. "MV Albedo sank during the night on Saturday 6 July 2013. The vessel had been held by armed Somali Pirates since 12 November 2010.

EU Naval Force Warship BNS Louise Marie Once Again Apprehends Suspect Pirates at Sea. Just 12 days after EU Naval Force warship BNS Louise Marie apprehended five suspect pirates at sea off the Somali Coast, the Belgium frigate has once again located a suspect skiff - this time with three men on board. The warship, which is operating as part of the European Union’s counter-piracy mission - Operation Atalanta, has maintained a constant sea watch during the past weeks in the waters off the Horn of Africa to help protect vessels from pirate attack.
