Wärtsilä Systems for Spliethoff OSV

Finnish tech company Wärtsilä will supply equipment for two offshore support vessels (OSV)under construction at the Fujian Mawei Shipbuilding yard in China for Netherlands-based shipping company Spliethoff.The order with Wärtsilä is booked in November 2019, said a press note.The design of the two DP2-B-type ships combines the intake of a multi-purpose vessel with Dynamic Positioning station-keeping ability, thus making them ideal for supplying cargo to offshore installations. Caterpillar Adds Azimuth Thrusters to Tug Package

A fresh range of azimuth thrusters will be featured in a newly integrated propulsion package from Caterpillar Propulsion targeting the tug market. The 60 metric ton bollard pull Cat Propulsion Marine Thruster Azimuth (MTA) is the first model in what will become a new family of rotatable units optimized for tug operations, with an initial unit expected to be delivered into a commercial trial by the end of 2015. The new MTA range has been tailored to optimize performance when working as part of an integrated propulsion train and will be made available through the extensive Cat dealer network.

Kongsberg Maritime to Equip Yinson Genesis FPSO

Kongsberg Maritime has been selected to supply a complete Electrical, Instrument and Telecom solution, including E- house, for the new Yinson Production (West Africa) Pte Ltd FPSO, ‘Yinson Genesis’. According to the company, the contract is valued at approximately NOK 200 million ($26.2 million) and the FPSO is expected to be operational by 2017. The Yinson Genesis will be deployed to fulfill a 15-year contract (with five yearly extension options) for the chartering, operation and maintenance of an FPSO facility at the Offshore Cape Three Points Block (OCTP), in the Tano basin, 60 km off the coast of Ghana. The contract was awarded by Eni Ghana Exploration and Production to a consortium consisting of Yinson Production (West Africa) Pte Ltd and Yinson Production West Africa Ltd.

Kongsberg Lift Simulator Chosen in Montreal

Kongsberg to supply several K-Sim Lift Training Simulators for heavy lift port equipment.

Kongsberg GlobalSim has been awarded a contract with the Maritime Employers Association (MEA) of Montreal, Canada to supply several K-Sim Lift Training Simulators for heavy lift port equipment. The simulator system will include training modules for seven different types of heavy lift equipment, and will feature three different student-training stations to expand the training program in Montreal. “The simulator will be the first step of every training program, for each type of equipment we use in Montreal,” said Sebastien Lambert, MEA’s Training Coordinator.

Eastern Shipbuilding Group Launches ATB

Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc. was scheduled to launch an ABS Classed 150 x 46 x 27-ft. ATB Ocean Going Tug at its Allanton facility in on  February 15. is being constructed for U.S. Shipping Partners, L.P. of along with two sister ships. is the first of three ABS-Classed 150-ft. ATB tugs currently under construction at Eastern’s Allanton facility. The vessel is designed and engineered by Guarino & Cox of , and is classed under the ABS rules for Building and Classing Steel Vessels Under 295 ft. in length. This series of 150-ft. ATB tugs offers several unique design features including an articulated tug and barge (ATB) connection system provided by Intercon. The vessel is capable of being powered by both heavy fuel oil as well as # 2 marine diesel fuel oil.

L-3 Chosen By Samsung

L-3 Communications' Aviation Recorders division has been selected by Samsung Heavy Industries as the exclusive source supplier of hardened voyage recorders (HVR) for new production ships manufactured by Samsung. The agreement also provides L-3 with the option to offer its HVR to Samsung for ship retrofit or modernization projects. The contract calls for L-3 to provide its 12-hour, solid state HVR and Audio Acquisition and Microphone Mixer (AAMM) for inclusion in Samsung's Voyage Date Recorder and NARU 2000 Integrated Navigation System. L-3's HVR records voice, radar, radio and shipboard performance data on a solid-state memory in a crash-protected capsule.

An Innovative LNG Carrier Concept

Concurrent with marine industry consolidation on the ship owning, building and supply fronts, increasingly innovative vessels concepts are originating from in-house design teams sitting with the major equipment manufacturers. Single-source supplier is today’s mantra on the commercial and military fronts, with companies such as Wärtsilä leading the way. The company recently published details of an innovative new LNG carrier concept, the Wärtsilä DF-electric propulsion concept for liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers, bringing together two technologies: electric propulsion and dual-fuel engines. The Wärtsilä DF-electric LNG carrier concept is designed for a single-screw vessel with four cargo tanks and a capacity of about 138,000 cu.

L-3 Enters Agreement With KMSS

L-3 Communications' Aviation Recorders division has entered into an agreement with Kongsberg Maritime Ship Systems (KMSS) as the sole source supplier of Hardened Voyage Recorders (HVR) for its new Maritime Black Box (MBB). The agreement provides L-3 Communications with the opportunity to provide its HVR to KMSS for installations on both new builds and existing vessels. Under this contract, L-3 will provide its 12-hour, solid state HVR for inclusion into KMSS's MBB system. The MBB and HVR meet the requirements specified in the International Maritime Organization's (IMO) SOLAS Chapter V, according to the standard set out in the International Electrotechnical Commission's (IEC) specification 61996, for a fully IMO compliant Voyage Data Recorder (VDR) System.
