South Boats Delivers Workboat to Turbine Transfers

Wind farm crew transfer vessel 'Caernarfon Bay' built by UK shipbuilders South Boat Special Projects Ltd. South Boats Special Projects Ltd. announce the launch and commissioning of its 57th offshore wind farm crew transfer vessel, ‘Caernarfon Bay’. The vessel is the first of the South Catamaran 19m WFSV designs to be delivered and features a host of developments. Built for Turbine Transfers Ltd. the vessel has passaged to a contract in the German North Sea following successful trials and acceptance.

Rhode Island’s economic assets include a surprising number of prominent and lesser known maritime firms. A recent media tour hosted by the Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation (RIEDC) highlighted the Ocean State’s key role(s) in the nation’s maritime industry. As the state of Rhode Island – along with everyone else, so it seems – works to revitalize a struggling local economy, it has become increasingly apparent that the marine industry will play a prominent role in that revival. In March, the Ocean State’s marine trade industry opened their doors to national trade media, showcasing the important work being done here in the ocean state.

South Boats Special Projects Ltd. announces the commissioning of its 54th offshore wind farm crew transfer vessel, ‘Iceni Pride’. The vessel is a South Catamaran 13m Rapid Response Vessel (RRV) built to fulfil a 5 year contract Iceni Marine Services has in place with Scottish & Southern Energy on their Greater Gabbard Offshore Wind Farm project. This vessel is the fourth built for Iceni with a further three in build and on order. Iceni Pride is outfitted to a very high standard with an abundance of teak and leather to take into account that one of the roles is VIP transportation.

Maritime Craft Services MCS Zephyr is the first vessel in the world to be built under survey to DNV 1A1 HSLC R2 Wind Farm Service 1 Class

MCS Zephyr & MCS Maestro - First 18m Wind Farm Service Vessels built to DNV 1A1 HSLC R2 Class. In service with Maritime Craft Services MCS Zephyr is the first vessel in the world to be built under survey to DNV 1A1 HSLC R2 Wind Farm Service 1 Class, followed by MCS Maestro. The vessels are built to UK flag and certified to MA Category 1. Built by South Boats Special Projects Ltd., the vessels are configured with an off centre wheelhouse providing a 34m2 forward deck capable of carrying up to 8 tonnes of construction and O & M equipment.

Blount Boats to Manufacture US-flagged Catamarans

Blount Boats, Inc. has been appointed by South Boats Special Projects, Ltd., based at Cowes on the Isle of Wight, England, to be the exclusive shipyard to manufacture U.S. flagged aluminum catamarans of South Boats designs for the U.S. wind farm industry. Blount Boats operates a shipyard in Warren, Rhode Island. South Boats is recognized as a pioneer in designing and manufacturing wind farm service vessels. Their shipyard has built 45 vessels in five classes, from 15M – 30 meters, representing a 50% market share in European wind farms that are serviced by 13 operators, including Turbine Transfers Ltd. (Holyhead Towing Company), Iceni Marine Services Ltd., Northern Offshore Services AB, MPI Workboats, Ltd. (Vroon Group BV), Maritime Craft Services and MTS Group.

South Boats Launches Wind Farm SV

South Boats Special Projects Ltd. commissioned another Offshore Wind Farm Service Vessel for Offshore Wind Power Marine Services Ltd. of Conwy, North Wales for a long term contract with Dong Energy on Gunfleet Sands Offshore Wind Farm. 'Offshore Progress' is a first of class South Catamaran 47/15m Alloy Wind Farm Service Vessel and measures 15.7m length overall, 6.3m beam overall, has a draft of 0.9m and has a lightship displacement (including fluids) of 23.5 tons.
