LR Approves Neda Maritime’s Power Limitation Technology

Bureau Veritas Expands Remote Inspection Capabilities

Classification society Bureau Veritas (BV) said it can now provide owners and operators with new ways to survey their ships through Remote Inspection Techniques operated by BV’s own surveyors in France. The company said it aims to leverage digital technologies to deliver its inspection services more safely and efficiently.BV’s key objective with the use of RIT is to limit the use of costly and dangerous means of access, by replacing them with safer and more efficient technologies during the structural inspection of the hull.

First Ship-to-Containership LNG Bunkering Ops in Port of Marseille Fos’

TotalEnergies and CMA CGM launched Marseilles’ inaugural ship-to-containership Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) bunkering operation in the Port of Marseille Fos, Southern France.CMA CGM BALI, a 15,000 TEU LNG-powered containership is deployed on the MEX 1service, connecting Asia and South Europe. The ship was refuelled by TotalEnergies’ Gas Vitality, the first LNG bunker vessel based in France, with around 6,000 cu. m. of LNG, by means of a ship-to-ship transfer alongside the Eurofos container terminal, while the containership carried out cargo operations simultaneously.

Damen Delivers New 'Mega-barge' to Combi Lift

Shipbuilding group Damen said it has delivered the 111-meter Damen Stan Pontoon 11226 RD mega-barge Tomsk to heavy lift and project cargo shipping company Combi Lift. The barge will be used in the construction of Gazprom’s Amur Gas Processing Plant near Russia’s eastern border, transporting some of the largest components to the site.This contract follows a 19 vessel order placed with Damen by Combi Lift that was delivered in May 2018. It was comprised of four Multi Cat 2608SD workboats, four Pusher Tugs 2612SD, four Side Floaters 8605SD and seven 89-meter Stan Pontoons 8916SD.

Tug Malta Takes Delivery of New Tug from Damen

Maltese tug operator Tug Malta has taken delivery of Senglea, a new Damen RSD Tug 2513 to be used for maneuvering container vessels in and out of the harbor.Handed over on January 15, the newbuild joins a fleet that already has a number of Damen ASD tugs, but is the first RSD tug to operate in the region.Tug Malta, owned by Rimorchiatori Mediterranei Spa, ordered the vessel in November 2019. Built at Damen’s Song Cam Shipyard in Vietnam, she has a bollard pull of 80 tonnes. The design features Damen’s Twin Fin skeg to enhance directional stability and provide higher indirect towing force.

LR Appoints Papageorgiou as M&O President

Lloyd’s Register (LR) has appointed Elina Papageorgiou as its new Marine and Offshore President for UK and Ireland, commencing on April 1, 2020.Papageorgiou has held a variety of roles across North and South Europe in sales, marketing and finance functions since joining LR in 2004. Most recently, she led LR’s Marine and Offshore sales teams in 11 different countries across South Europe.Papageorgiou graduated with a BSc in Economics from Brunel University and has an MBA from Imperial College London.

Hapag-Lloyd Opens New South Europe HQ

German cargo container shipping line, Hapag-Lloyd AG, officially opened its headquarter for the new region.CEO Rolf Habben Jansen presented the keys of the office complex in Genoa (Italy) to the new Senior Managing Director Juan Pablo Richards.During the opening event, Habben Jansen explained the motivation to create a new region: “After our merger with UASC in 2017 the Mediterranean region has gained more importance for us. That's why we are eager to bolster our competitive position in this attractive and growing market and exploit further opportunities.”The new region was created by splitting the former Region Europe into northern and southern parts.

LR Gets Italian RO Status

Cepsa Debuts South Europe's First Multi-product LNG Supply Vessel

Cepsa presented in the Port of Huelva the first multi-product marine fuel supply vessel in southern Europe. The vessel, based in the port of Huelva, will provide ship to ship Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), in addition to traditional fuels: fuel oils and diesel. State-of-the-art technology has been used in its construction including a new fuel measurement system, based on Mass Flow Meters technology, which guarantees the accuracy in the supply of fuel to vessels. The new multipurpose vessel (OIZMENDI), which will operate in Huelva, has an LNG load capacity of 600 m3, 1,900 tons of fuel oil and 470 tons of diesel. Sanmar Orders 42 Rolls-Royce Thrusters

Rolls-Royce said it has secured an extensive supply order from long-time collaborator Sanmar Shipyards for propulsion and deck equipment for tugboats the Turkish shipyard is building for various customers. The scope of supply includes 42 Rolls-Royce US 205/255 azimuth thrusters for 21 harbor/terminal/escort tugs in the 60-, 70- and 80-metric-ton bollard-pull range and high-pressure hydraulic towing winched for the 80-metric-ton models. All vessels are based on new designs developed by Canadian naval architects Robert Allan Ltd., exclusively for Sanmar.

Ocean Alliance Launches Day Two Product

The Ocean Alliance has launched its new Day Two Product with an estimated 3.6 million TEU carrying capacity provided by approximately 340 containerships deployed on 41 services. The new offering will commence in April 2018. Alliance partners CMA CGM, COSCO, Evergreen and OOCL will offer 20 Transpacific services, six Asia-Europe services, four Asia-Mediterranean services, four Transatlantic services, five Asia-Middle East services and two Asia-Red Sea services. “Ocean Alliance has been a fantastic success from a customer perspective since its launch last spring and we are very enthusiastic to announce our Day Two Product,” said Olivier Nivoix, Senior Vice President Ocean Alliance Lines.

Contship Italia Volumes rise

Contship Italia Group, Italy’s leading maritime container terminal and intermodal operator saw an increase in handled volume of 1.7% and 9.7% increase in transported volumes for 2016. The group’s Maritime Container Terminal business saw an increase of 109,000 TEUs in overall handling volumes in 2016, welcoming 6,888 vessel calls, up 4% year on year. Contship’s intermodal business reported an overall rise in transported volumes and directly operated number of trains. Innovative fast customs corridors, an improved load factor of domestic trains in the second half of the year, plus the increased routing of cargo via the southern gateway to south and central Europe, have all supported an increased market share of 25% in the Italian maritime intermodal business.

Oceanteam Bags Cable Transport Gig

Oceanteam Solutions has signed a contract with a European cable manufacturer regarding the supply of a transport vessel, turntable and auxiliary equipment for the transport of cables from South Europe to Scandinavia. The project is planned to be executed in summer 2017. Besides supporting the cable transport and loadout with a transport vessel and a turntable, Oceanteam will assist the multiple cable loadouts in the appointed ports by supplying equipment and a professional cable handling crew. The turntable system and auxiliary equipment will be loaded on the vessel at Oceanteam’s own quay facilities in Velsen Noord, the Netherlands, and subsequently will be shipped to South Europe. There, the cable will be spooled before heading to Scandinavia for the cable loadout.

Skangas Delivers Milestone Fuel Change

Skangas said its vessel Coralius has for the first time both cooled down tanks and delivered liquefied natural gas (LNG) in one operation. The receiving vessel LEG/C Navigator Aurora was supplied with just under 500 mt LNG in the middle of a voyage between Sweden and South Europe over October 7 and 8, 2017. Going from using diesel oil to LNG requires time consuming but necessary process of cooling down operation of the receiving ship’s fuel gas tanks from ambient conditions to minus 160 degrees.

Damen has delivered a Cutter Suction Dredger 450 to Vesirakennus Ojanen Oy in Finland. This is the first time a Damen Cutter Suction Dredger has been deployed in the Scandinavian market. The new dredger was delivered in only a few weeks from stock and has been put to work straight away in the Port of Pori, where it is dredging at a depth of 4.5 meters. Damen Workboats for Fratelli Neri Fleet Expansion

Italian towing company Fratelli Neri S.p.A. has expanded its fleet with the delivery of three new Damen workboats. The trio of vessels will be based in the company’s home port of Livorno, on the Tuscan coast. Damen delivered all the vessels from stock;completing the final outfitting works within a timescale of three and a half months. This current delivery to Fratelli Neri consists of three different vessels. The first, an ASD 2913, was built at Damen Shipyards Galati. This vessel sailed from Romania to Italy on her own keel. The other two vessels – a Stan Launch 1305 and a Stan Tug 1606 – were being held on stock at Damen Shipyards Gorinchem in the Netherlands. Damen transported these two workboats to Livorno on a heavy-lift vessel.
