The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) has launched the first pilot trial for electric harbor craft charging point at the Marina South Pier (MSP).The charging point was awarded to the Pyxis Energy, Pyxis Maritime, and SP Mobility partnership. Pyxis’s fleet of electric harbor craft operating at MSP will serve as the base offtake to ensure optimization of the charging infrastructure.The Pyxis and SP Mobility partnership has deployed a 150kW land-based direct current fast charger with a Combined Charging System 2 connector at MSP.

Launching this week in partnership with Airbus, Wilhelmsen’s shore-to-ship Singapore pilot project, marks the first deployment of drone technology in real-time port conditions, delivering a variety of small, time-critical items to working vessels at anchorage.Lifting off from Marina South Pier in Singapore with 3D printed consumables from Wilhelmsen’s onshore 3D printing micro-factory, the Airbus Skyways drone navigated autonomously along pre-determined ‘aerial-corridors’ in its 1.5km flight to Eastern Working Anchorage.

Wilhelmsen Ships Service has been selected to help develop the future Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) regulatory framework for Singapore and will receive dedicated funding for their shore-to-ship delivery project.Wilhelmsen Ships Service is one of only four companies to have received the funding, following a Call-For-Proposal (CFP) by CAAS and the Ministry of Transport. The CFP aims to support the development of systems and technologies to enable innovations within the wide-ranging use of UAS. A hydrographic survey of the Straits of Malacca and Singapore (SOMS) was launched today by the three littoral States - Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore - and the Malacca Straits Council of Japan at the Marina South Pier. This initiative was one of the key recommendations that arose from a study conducted by OMC International Pty Ltd - a maritime engineering consultant - commissioned by the littoral States of the SOMS in 2013 on real-time monitoring of under keel clearance in the SOMS. The data from the survey will be used to produce large-scale Electronic Navigational Charts (ENCs) covering five areas in the Straits critical to navigation.

At 6.30 a.m. today Tyne Vessel Traffic Services (VTS) reported to Humber Coastguard that the fishing vessel Grenaa Star had been in collision with South Pier, Tynemouth. The fishing vessel had begun taking in water and was in need of immediate assistance. Escorted by other local fishing vessels, and the Port of Tyne pilot launch Collingwood, the fishing vessel was able to beach itself on Little Haven Beach. Humber Coastguard requested that the two Tynemouth RNLI lifeboats launch and they have now transferred two salvage pumps to the vessel to deal with the ingress of water. Sunderland Coastguard Rescue Team are also on scene and are keeping watch and reporting back to the Coastguard.

Davit Engineering, a division of Davit Sales Inc. recently completed the design and construction drawings for two new floating piers in Staten Island for receiving loaded barges of paper from NYC for recycling. The piers are 140 ft. long x 6 ft. wide floating structures the first of which commissioned just days prior to the worst storm in the New York area’s history, Hurricane Sandy. It was a serious and successful test for this new structure which incurred no damage as a result of the storm’s winds and tidal surge. The plan for these piers Mr.

The new interactive gallery was developed by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) at a cost of $5 million. The Singapore Maritime Gallery was officially opened by Mr Lui Tuck Yew, Minister for Transport. Housed on the second storey of Marina South Pier, and occupying a total floor space of approximately 1,000 square metres, the Gallery showcases the diversity and vibrancy of Singapore's maritime industry. Singapore has long been associated with the sea and maritime trade, with its strategic position at the crossroads of East-West seaborne trade routes.

1881-The crew of Life-boat Station No. 14, Eleventh District (Racine, WI) rendered service during the severest storm of the season The life-saving crew noticed several vessels running north for safety under bare poles and two of them made safely into the harbor. Observing this, the master of the schooner Lavinda tried to make the same haven, but the vessel became unmanageable, struck the south pier, immediately became waterlogged, and in five minutes was a wreck. The life-saving crew sprang for the lifeboat and put out to her assistance. They got alongside and managed to run a line from the wrecked vessel to the station tug H. Wetzel, which had steamed out to her relief. The tug soon towed her into the harbor.

Titan Salvage has safely removed the partially submerged Washington Gantry crane and other navigational hazards from Port-au-Prince, Haiti for the U.S. Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM). The company's work helped to re-establish port infrastructure and significantly increase the volume of marine cargo into Haiti following the devastating earthquake in January. The largest and most hazardous obstruction removed was a 300-metric ton gantry crane, which was partially submerged and listing towards the harbor at approximately 15 degrees, blocking access to the northern dock.

Crowley Maritime Corporation, working under contract with the U.S. Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM), is unloading Haiti relief cargo in Rio Haina, Dominican Republicy. Fifty six of the 68 20-ft containers of water and meals-ready-to-eat (MREs) will be trucked across the border into Haiti. The remaining 12 loads aboard the container ship Macajama will be transported by water to Port-au-Prince, Haiti and be offloaded in an experimental lightering operation and delivered across a beach on Jan. 22. If successful, future shipments could be made directly to Port-au-Prince. The Crowley plan calls for the Macajama to anchor offshore near the port's damaged south pier and near the exposed beach.

D.F. International logistics service provider D.F. Young, Inc. has announced the relocation of its headquarters office from New York City to Jersey City, N.J. in the first quarter of 2001. The company is leasing 14,000 sq. ft. at 1 Journal Square in Jersey City, after operating from downtown New York for most of its 97-year history. "When this company was started in 1903, all the shipping companies and banks were located in downtown Manhattan," said Thomas Mosimann, president of D.F. Young. "But the port has moved, and most of the other forwarders have followed it to New Jersey over the last 10 to 15 years. D.F.Young already has its Marine Department located in Port Elizabeth, N.J., as well as offices across the U.S. in Jamaica, N.Y.
