Partners Digitize Spare Parts Management

Fleet management software provider ABS Nautical Systems (ABS NS) and spare parts supply chain technology company Spares CNX are partnering to digitalize spare parts inventory management and deliver significant time and cost savings to vessel owners and operators. Gibdock Gets Strategic with HMS Scott

Gibdock’s strategic location has been brought into sharp focus with the docking of HMS Scott, the largest vessel in the Royal Navy's Hydrographic Squadron, for a recent 19-day maintenance period at the Gibraltar yard. Work took place as part of the MOD UK’s Commercially Supported Shipping (CSS) Teams Through Life Support (TLS) contract with main contractor Babcock. The TLS contract, which runs to 2018, includes fleet time maintenance, design services and spares management. “Recent world events suggest that the Royal Navy will highly prize support from strategically-located facilities that can deliver vessels back into service on schedule and to high quality standards,” said Richard Beards, Gibdock Managing Director.

A New Direction for DP

GE pioneers a friendlier operating system for mariners. GE’s Power Conversion business is bringing enhanced operability to the company’s Dynamic Positioning (DP) system. According to GE, the latest version is more energy efficient, better integrated and more mariner friendly. Defining that concept further, Paul English, marine leader of GE Power Conversion, told MarineNews in May, “We are giving ship control back to the mariners.” GE leverages more than 40 years of experience in its effort to reduce the burden of the technology on the operator. It’s a new direction in DP. It’s the mariner’s DP. GE’s latest DP offering is mariner-focused, enhancing situational awareness and rebalancing attention from system management to true seamanship.

Babcock Wins 'HMS Scott' Support Contract

Through-life engineering support contract for the Royal Navy’s ocean survey vessel 'HMS Scott' awarded to Babcock, initially for 5 years. Under the contract, which includes an option to extend in 2018 for a further five years, Babcock will provide all aspects of through-life support for the vessel, working collaboratively in long term relationships with the MoD and some of its selected specialist contractors. Northrop Grumman Maintenance Contract, Peter Döhle Ships

Northrop Grumman Corporation’s (NYSE: NOC) Sperry Marine business unit has been awarded a one-year contract by Peter Döhle Schiffahrts-KG (PDS-KG) and HAMMONIA Reederei (a joint venture between PDS-KG, HCI Capital AG and GE Transportation Finance, Inc.) to provide worldwide service and maintenance for more than 135 ships. Under the contract, Northrop Grumman Sperry Marine will be responsible for all shipboard service, support and maintenance of the ships’ navigation and communication equipment, including repairs, spares management and required annual inspections and certifications.

Sperry Marine to Equip INS for Canadian Navy Ships and Subs

Northrop Grumman Corporation has been awarded two contracts from the Public Works and Government Services Canada and the Canadian Department of National Defence to upgrade and provide in-service support for the inertial navigation systems (INS) on Canadian Navy ships and submarines. The firm fixed price contracts, totaling $15.9m, were awarded to Northrop Grumman’s Sperry Marine business unit. They include an $11.8m contract to supply navigation data distribution systems (NDDS) for the MK49 INS on 12 Halifax-class frigates, and a separate five-year $4.1 million in-service support (ISS) contract for MK49, MK39 and NDDS installations throughout the Canadian Navy fleet.

Northrop Grumman To Supply Platform Management System For Type 45 Destroyers

Northrop Grumman Corporation has won a $15 million contract to supply six ship sets of machinery control and monitoring systems for the U.K.'s Type 45 "D" Class destroyer for the Royal Navy. The contract, awarded by BAE SYSTEMS Electronics, the Type 45 prime contractor, calls for Northrop Grumman to develop and deliver six platform management systems (PMS) for the Type 45 ships. The contract also includes options for life-cycle support, including maintenance, repair, spares management, equipment upgrades and training. The PMS is a commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) system that provides machinery control and surveillance for the ships' main engines, auxiliaries and other systems, as well as damage surveillance and control functions.
